New ship: Panther Clipper

Can't get my FC through the mailslot though...
A 6K ton freighter would not fit through either, you'd have to load and offload via shuttlecraft, pretty much like you can now shuttle to and from the carrier with a Panther soon. An actual huge ship with a class 8 FSD would be permitted to instance with the station though and park directly outside.

Do you have proof positive of this, or is the usual forum putdown?

Going by the 1 cubic metre for the standard cargo canister, the interior of the Panther Kitten is mostly vacant space already!
It just follows the game's logic. If you stretched the Panther to full pad length, you might be able to double the capacity, so 2400t. Go bigger and you blow the proportions that can still fit through.

So, no, then...
The game doesn't have any kind of logic when it comes to volume, everything certainly seems to have been plucked out of the air as a good idea.

Wasn't it @Morbad who calculated the volume of even the smallest of ships and concluded that they were mostly empty space?
The Panther Kitten has a massive volume already, most of it appears to be empty.

I got the ship model volumes from here.

The smaller ships seem to have fairly plausible densities, but it's like FDev forgot the cube-square law when making up the specs for the larger vessels--or simply enlarged them arbitrarily to give them a more grandiose scale. The biggest ships would literally displace more air, at one atmosphere, than their own total masses in lightweight configurations. The situation with the Panther is inevitably similar to the other largest ships.

Some decent information in this video. Still focuses on combat and not enough on transport.

Again, I would really love to see this ship put through its paces landing at a port on a 1 g planet, and how will it handles coming in with a full load on a colony platform. Don't be gentle with it. Does it slide forever like a Cutter or drift with rapid deceleration like a T-9 Stock and unloaded doesn't tell me much. The T-9 having better pitch than the Cutter and the Cutter having way better roll is no surprise for me.

I guess I'll have to wait, too bad I'll be out of town next week.

Perhaps FD have left the door open for the Panther XL in the future, that might even meet the description of heavy hauler Behomoth?

Sell as many 1200 cargo as they can, then spring a 1500 on us for more cash. That wouldn't be a PR disaster at all...

I can literally play this piece in my head:
"We want moar cargo!"
"Well, here it is! 1200 tons! We even gave it a name you love! Hope you're happy!"
"It's not big enough! We want moar! Wah!"
"... mkay.... here's your Super Duper Clipper Mk.XXL, carrying over 2000 tons of cargo!"
"Wah, wah, power creep, stupid Frontier, lazy devs!"

There's literally nothing that can ever be done right.

The catch is that those would be two different groups of people. No one asking for more will complain about power creep, and vice versa.

Unless they do it by allowing more D class cargo racks. Although the jump range already suffers with the capacity it has. Class 8 FSD could solve that, but would also allow some absurd lightweight jump range.

The Type-9 Heavy and Type-10 Defender have similar hulls. So we should get a PC Mk II XL (Jumbo) that fills the landing pad with 2000 t (max) cargo capacity.

Does that really matter in the grand scheme of the game?
We already have FCs that jump up to 500LY, the Mandy can almost hit 100, as can the Anaconda, in stupid underpowered, lighweight, configurations.
We already had FSDs of only one class like D. Why won't 8 be only E?

I'm happy that most of the contributors here are not designers of the game, I'd have either not bought it, or stopped after a couple of weeks had they been!
The crazy thing is that it isn't only here that gamers don't want 'their game' to change from their vision of what it should be.
I don't quite understand how my assumption differs from the appearance of mk2 slots?
I don't understand what my vision has to do with it? They wrote that how to deal with a light jump at 8 fsd. I assumed that 8 fsd could be limited by classes. I don't understand the transition to forum people here.
