Core Dynamics is an entirely irrelevant manufacturer now...

Took me a while, but finally found a Corvette loadout that i liked. Pure efficient beams on all but the small hardpoints (corrosive MC and scramble pulse) with thermal dump. Works a charm for me.
Thermal Vent is for housecats, embrace thermal conduit!

It;s great, it literally reverses your heat psychology. Where before you were like 'omg I'm getting hot' now you'll be like 'yeeeeeesss, MOOOOAAAAR HEAAAAT!'

For me and strictly for bounty hunting it has come down to two long range thermal vent beams to aggro from 6km away, one large efficient thermal vent beam, two small cascade rails to break SCBs and two huge multicannons to lay down the hammer once the shield is gone.

My pve vette build if anyone's interested. This can clear multiple 9 ship fully aggroed pirate massacre instances befroe eventually accumulated damage from the shield cell banks will send you back to the carrier. The huge multicannons are a pain to refill, but multicannon refills are really really cheap on mats so I don't mind, I can see why many use more lasers though, we're not all made of mats. The belly hardpoint is weak, so gimballed large efficient beam, with TC to take advantage of the extra heat when I fire the cells. Railguns to cancel cells and shoot out modules of runners, and emissive pulses on the side to keep the huge gimbals firing optimally. I might drop the railguns, not many pve ships have enough cells to make them worth cancelling with this much direct dps. I use this to make cash stacking multiple pirate massacres, it's the most fun credit grind for me, even if it's not always the most efficient...

As always with your builds...good build...that said, there's only 2 things I would change on this...
1. Supercruise assist...I'm shocked you fitted this :p
2. Multicannons. I always go short range for the extra DPS, it's small increase over overcharged, but with multiple MCs it adds up. In combat trying to hit something out past 1.5k with MCs is almost pointless and a waste of ammo, so the 1.5k max range for short range engineering is not really a negative.

But as always with weapons, it can be subjective and a personal preference.

Good shouts :) SC Assist, yeh, I mean, it is my literally only ship with one, and that's cos it spends all its time going from local instance to local instance in-system for pirate assassinations. Please, forgive me. Don't worry, it is still me, I have not been abducted and replaced, it's pve, it's peevee, eeeeeee. lmao.
Short range, yeh, not gonna lie, probably a better shout on distro draw as well. Might give it a try. Spend a lot of time with no engine pips, so moving slowly, will let you know what I think <3

Nice one, you obviously know way better than me how to engineer the shielding. Here's mine. I've got the Sirius heatsink, so one is enough.

Hand in you CMDRs license immediately for flying with SC assist :D

Honestly I usually hear this for autodock which I have on many ships, to post in the forums while landing. Never get the hate for assists...

Considering the ancillaries, that's not a bad build at all. Yeh, in pve resistances are everything, so the shield is carefully setup, I mean, with biweaves, thermal lo-draw is 9 times out of 10 the right choice, then simply add res aug boosters up to 3, and if you have any space left, heavy duty boosters, as you can see the resists are 'chef's kiss' and the shield fully recharges in the flight between instances.

I get a 500MJ edge against plasma though :)

Only FDLs and a few pythons generally carry plasma in pve (large ships do too), take them out first ;) But seriously, 90% of pve damage is hitscan gimballed lasers you can't avoid, so effective health is very thermal based. It's hilarious how many ships can be firing at you with this shield and 4 pips to sys, I can't be arsed to do the math, but it's like silly% of laser damage getting through (what's 39% of 17? That's how many % of laser damage is getting through) :D

In bounty hunting the most I'm up against is three. And thankfully my fighter pilot is capable enough to completely bind or sometimes even destroy one of the three. My FdL is what I use in combat zones, I have completely stopped using large ships there. Although I'm going to give the Cutter a try once I get my Panther.

Almost all the other ship manufacturers have released new ships in the last 8 years, but not Core Dynamics. Furthermore, their ships are the weakest combat ships in the game now.

Vulture - entirely usurped by Cobra 5
FAS - Even the now also aging alliance ships are much better
FGS - Has been obsolete since the Challenger
FDS - lol

Even Lakon stayed ahead of the game, but hte biggest superpower's pet ship manufacturer has never updated anything? Really?

I know it has been said that there is likely to be a focus on large ships from now on, but the funny part is that the Corvette, the only large ship by CD, is still pretty viable.

They need AT LEAST 2 new medium combat ships to compete with Lakon, Zorgon and Gutamaya now. In no universe would a superpower like the federation allow themselves to get so far behind the curve. They should be losing every conflict they're involved 2 ships to 1.

Core Dynamics love in 2026 at the latest pleeeeeease :)
The Federation has a nearly Soviet mindset with regard to hanging on to stuff. :)

Grab yourself a threat 8+ wing assassination of pirates, in most instances you can aggro the ships one at a time, it's like shooting fish in a barrel and the game is to kill as many as you can before they jump out. Sometimes though, you get all 9 ships aggroing you immediately. Composition is usually something like two Pythons, two FDLs, 2 or 3 Challenger or Chieftains, and a bunch of smaller ships. This is the hardest pve test the game has, imo. Approx twice as hard a 1 FDL 3 vulture pirate assassination. Instances where they do all attack you at once though are rare. Still, stacking these is good money, the corvette is perfect for it. <3

Python 2 is CZ king now, but I like using the FDL too.

P.S. This is my pvp FDL, I wouldn't bother to make any changes for pve, thermal resist is bad, but it's still just too much shield for the poor NPCs. Naturally in PvP all you care about is plasma really. https://s.orbis.zone/r1It

I really should use feedback cascade rails more for dealing with those pesky pythons that spam SCBs.

Fortunately, on the Corvette, its not even an issue, it melts shields quicker than a SCB can charge them.

I took my Vulture out for a spin earlier today. With a pair of engineered Frags it blows up pirates and Power NPCs real good, and is fun to fly. I could probably fine-tune it with better module selection and engineering. That doesn't seem so irrelevant to me.

I've never tried any of the Federal [Brick] Ships. I've never outfitted a Medium-sized full-bore combat ship with a fight hangar before. Maybe the Gunship is the one for me to explore that possibility?

I recently kitted out a FGS full multi-cannon build. Not great, but a heck of a lot of fun.
