[DW3] Distant Worlds 3 Website & Roster Signups

It's less how long the suit lasts, more how quickly your HP depletes. Shields, etc., do nothing on high-temp planets. Anything over around 800K will start killing you.

Though you can still survive for 30s or so on hotter planets.
Hence the consideration in "reasonable temperatures". Reduced tool battery usage, extended batteries, etc.

How do all thought I would come and check out where Distant Worlds was starting from and have a little explore around as around there is quite nice on the eye. Just wandering is it all permit locked tried to find a station for repairs by looking at populated systems couldn't seem to plot a course for Running Man, Trapezium and a number of other systems to get anywhere. Nothing was coming up in the Galaxy Map just wouldn't allow to plot a route so presumed it must be permit locked. Would sign up but I'm way too disorganised with my ships think I've only got two out of thirty eight or so running keep swapping parts to other ships lol. Having to think about which ships I'm taking would cause a severe engineering shortage problem lol.

O7 all

The whole area is in the middle of a bunch of permit locked space, which interferes with the autopilot. You can easily set a route there from about 500 LY away, but once you're in the middle of it all, you're looking at only being able to navigate via the left panel.

I make heavy use of the EDDiscovery router, myself, in the area. It's a bit of a pain, but it's also a reminder of how navigation used to be in the very early days of the game.

Wonderful.
I wonder indeed, how distant world will adapt, considering that Vanguard update could come before the expedition starts (probable), and thus with the introduction of Multi-helm (suggested several times) apparently coming, as squadrons will be allowed to own (if not 2, with different capabilities) surely the main squadron "vanguard" carrier, which according to each squadron settings will be "movable" from different hands (accounts)...
This would be not only ground breaking for immersion, but also for galaxy exploration means a lot.. people could even "pretend" crio-sleep and just wake up at a certain moment when a trip x destination is reached, this means a ship starts to become a real feeling ship.
However I don't know if I am correct, if this is actually gonna be possible or only the commander will be able to manage such special carrier (which is "rumored" to be much bigger and much different than the Fleet carrier we can obtain right now, just btw), or if instead a chosen selection of team mates will be granted access to control and moving of the Vanguard carrier. I really hope this is coming.

At the moment such necessary aspect of the game is only achievable with alternative accounts, than sharing keys of this "IRL" account, and anyway this is a bit game breaking like most things relative to alternative account in my view, in any game. But I won't digress on this one.

Sign up says no such thing. It says you can register up to 3 (thought it was 6?) ships.

You can bring as many as you want. I'm bringing my whole fleet, i'll have to split it over 2 carriers.
I really need to go through my ships and decide which to take.

List of ships in fleet

Cobra Mk V

<end of list>

Hmmm, I think I’ll take the Cobra Mk V.

🙂

I'm curious why? I guess I really need to buy one and take it for a test drive.
It seems like a versatile ship on paper. Looks like It can get to about 68 or 70ly when equipped for exploration, which is pretty good for a small ship.
I've been away from the game for a few years and just returned to the bubble. I built out an 87ly Mandalay which I'm enjoying very much.

You really do, it is a great little ship.

The view is arguably better than the Mandalay, certainly the glass floor is bigger.

MK5 is a great little ship, it replaced my Krait as my main bubble runner.
Then the Corsair came along, sorry MK5.

MK5 is a great little ship.
What they said. ☝️

And for rare players like me who don’t want a fleet (or a larger ship), the Cobra Mk V is just a great single all rounder. Combat, exploration, missions, light cargo - all while keeping the same loadout (not a fan of module swapping, aside from occasional loadout tweaks). It’s fast, agile, and versatile.

Not sure I’ll change much if anything for DW3. Current 52.5 ly range is enough. Even the weapons can stay (you never know…). I’ll just power them down to save fuel.

The two ships I'm taking are a Mandalay with 94+ lys jump range, and my armed Cobra Mk5 with about 50 lys range. Will probably take a passenger ship along, a repair/refuel support vessel and a cargo/mining one. Maybe a combat vessel as well for six ships altogether.

BTW the site is amazing! It works well and looks like it came straight out of the game :)

I've seen references to passenger ships and I'm curious as to why

I think in short I know that the details are being worked out but I'd still like to know more about how this event is going to work.
Sounds like that is more complicated than it sounds though :)
I've done some "long range" exploration before but I've never been part of a event like this before.
But I'm really looking forward to this event.

Got naotehr question regarding the "three ships". I want to bring my jack of all trades, a CMV and probably a Corsair. That's only two. So far, so good.

But, in their intro posting, Erimus mentioned six more ships we might want to bring along for specific, as yet undisclosed, events. So how does that connect to the three ships total?

For people like me who plan to complete the expedition by not using a ship of my own and instead hitchhiking on other people's ships!
Oh ok. :) I didn't know players could hitch rides on passenger ships.

Just curious how does that work? Do you get transported to a cabin?
Or is it like the shuttles where you sit in the co pilot seat?

So, Haven't signed up just yet, But, I've managed to finally get myself a fleet carrier, which I want to bring.

Is that OK? also, if I do, what recommended modules would be the best help for the expedition, and how much Tritium do you propose I carry?

Congratulations on your fleet carrier, thats a great achievement.

However we respectfully ask that you do not bring personal Fleet Carriers on the expedition.

DW3 will be deploying four official Carriers to serve as dedicated hubs for gameplay, role-play, and community interaction — your home away from home throughout the journey. These vessels have been carefully planned to support the expedition's structure and spirit.

Bringing a large number of additional personal carriers risks undermining this vision. Not only do they diminish the visual and thematic atmosphere of a deep-space journey — one meant to evoke distance from human infrastructure — but having dozens or even hundreds of unnecessary Carriers congregating at every waypoint or point of interest would detract from the experience for the vast majority of participating commanders.

Moreover, from a technical perspective, an overabundance of personal carriers can interfere with the ability of official carriers to jump to their intended staging systems. This creates serious logistical challenges and can jeopardize the smooth progression of the expedition.

Yep. Just jump into the Minerva system right now and try to find anything besides FCs in the navigation tab. Worse, try to find your own carrier if you forgot to set a bookmark. Much worse - try to find a friend's carrier that you are using as a temporary base...
