Beta 3.9 oculus specific fixes

Just to confirm the following definitions:

- Judder: when the view jumps around randomly or shakes even though you are not moving your head.
- Smear / Blur: When you move your head, the image is "doubled" as if the eyes aren't in sync or there is something called "persistence" at play
- EDIT: Chromatic aberration: When you see red/green/blue separation

Correct?

Nope.

Judder - visible when framerate is less than refresh rate and you move your head.
Blur - It's when the screen fails to refresh to a new focused zone fast enough as you move your head .
Chroma - it's color bleeding when highly different contrasted areas join together. Very exagerrated when the screen needs to refresh focus from a dark area to a lighter area. (e.g look at the non-lit side of a planet and then quickly move your head towards the night sky.)
(what you're thinking that chroma is is actually the screen door effect)

It's agravating how close it feels to just "working" but still not quite there.

Have an i5-3570k and GTX 770, the game works amazing when I first start, can have everything maxed pretty well and it runs smooth. To be safe I turn off ambient occlusion and lower some settings to keep the performance tight.

After playing a short bit the performance is guaranteed to dip and from there on nothing will fix the judder including turning just about every graphics setting off/down.

It's a shame too cause that short but where it works it looks really good. I think it's the SMAA (but it's hard to say as even with AA off things look sharper), but the aliasing is soo much better now than it used to be on distant objects.

I should add that direct mode still doesn't work so this is all in extended. That's the second "PLEASE FIX THIS" as direct modes reduced latency has a pretty large effect on presence.

That sounds more like an issue on your end, check your background processes. I often leave ED running for day's on end with the rift, just pop in and out for an hour when I can, no slowdown at all for me here.

I can't see a difference between 0.4.3 on Beta 3.05 and 3.9 on my setup. I still get smearing black effects when turning my head. Frame rate is too low in direct but respectable in extended. Text seems the same i.e. a bit of a struggle. I might downgrade to 0.4.2 which for my setup seems like a better experience. In 0.4.2 I have to run in low quality and the frame rate is a little lower but ok. The GPU is a workstation card (CAD) rather than a pure gaming card. Maybe that's not helping me.

HPZ1:

Nvidia Quadro K4000M
Quad Zeon 3.2 GHz
X52 Pro

Workstation cards are actually pretty bad at gaming, it would probably be even worse with VR due to the card rendering twice.

Something i noticed today was that my eye IPD had reset and i had to go back in and manually enter it into ED and after that the game cleared up a lot.

For those that are having issues with it i found a video that is pretty easy to follow and it worked for me when i was having trouble.

You don't have to pause the service any more now. The only reason you had to do this before was because the SDK was higher than what ED supported. Now the SDK is supported you can just play in extended mode without problems. Well, I can anyway.

It was actually on my end. Once the game gets to a certain temp the card throttles
down some to prevent overheating. I'll have to tweak the fan to run even more agressively than I do now and raise the temp when the throttling triggers (I previously lowered it, oops). Might have to underclock it a hair too but I'll see if that is enough.

The judder issue is somewhat improved on Beta 3.9 and Gammar 1.0. But it still occurs.
I am using iMac late 2012 version, bootcamp to Win7 64bit
i7 3.9GHz
32GB ram
GTX 680MX 2GB ram
Oculus rift DK2 0.4.3 runtime

Sorry forgot to mention, judder occurs on both in docking station and outer space.
all judder gone if i set resolution to 1366x768 and overall graphics to "Low"

If your DK2 isn't been recognized, make sure to disable USB legacy support in BIOS and reinstall drivers. cheers

This is only a Unity update unfortunately. No update to a new SDK for anything else.
