Had the validation error as well. Tried a few times a few minutes apart, nothing. Then suddenly it worked. Probably all those Rifters out there just having returned from work eagerly awaiting the patch, hammering the servers - Like me.

UPDATE:

additional server side change log:

- Saud Kruger’s introductory discount on the newly released Orca has proved incredibly successful. Shipyard dealers report that the heavy discounts have now expired and the ship has returned to its normal pricing across the Galaxy.

You don't need to delete the whole directory structure. Just delete Elitedangerous.exe. Then start the upgrade again. This fixes the problem

Well for me all upgrades and the download was at 0.09Mb/s this on however, started at 0.09 but hopped upto 500+ and took about 4 seconds to complete- I'm in UK its 16:35.
