I havent found the danger in Elite: Dangerous...

Serious, will there be any in the future, is there any I havent found yet ?

This game ( which I really enjoy so far ) has currently so many safety nets that I struggle to see the Danger apart from trying to navigate with the ingame map and not useing external tools :D
NPCs can be easily avoided and you can carebear without any harm till you run out of ideas what to do with all the money. Most NPCs have never seen a combat school or have such weak fitted ships that they run out of energy very fast and cant shot back.
You dont even have to bother about a ship loss apart from the uncovered part that is excluded from insurance cause your friendly space insurance company provides you immidiatly the exact same fitted ship you just lost a couple of seconds before and spares you the traveling and searching for your nice fittings.
You can avoid interaction with other players completly if you like and which I´m also guilty ( with real launch I will only play open but for learning the game it is actually nice ) but from what I heard from others even in open mode you rarely see anyone else that isnt an NPC.
Makeing money is a walk in the park if you trade or run missions till you have decent standings ( a few days ) and they drop 100-200k earning missions at you regular.
And then I see threads how hard this game is, starters need more credits, mission timer should stop when you log and so on...

Were I just missleaded by the Game title or do I overlook/read something that was already announced to come?

Elite: Mostly Harmless?

Now you mention it it does seem a bit unusual, Elite doesn't seem to have any "difficulty" level as such.

I mean are there areas where a new player in a weak ship isn't likely to survive?

It's been pretty timid for a while. I've got through from Alpha to now using just a keyboard without a mouse.

Maybe they dont want to scare people off while its being tested.

There's a war coming...

Depends what you mean by dangerous as well. The Pleiades Cluster is only around 250Ly from the nearest settled system, some have gone much further, and out there anything can happen and you have no real safety net. Make a mistake fuel scooping, or get attacked by a trigger happy Expert pilot or 2 and you're in real trouble. Sure you can lose your ship and then start back easily at the last station you docked at, but then you lose all the exploration data and progress you've made out there. If you don't necessarily want that to happen then you can just play Ironman mode on release ;)

Depends on how good and comfortable with the controls the pilot is, it's easy to die anywhere as you could come up against an expert/dangerous Eagle pilot and you'd stand no chance in a stock sidey.

Good point. I havent ventured out in to deep space yet where there's...dragons.

The local pirates get a good kicking at the moment because most don't have shields and the others do a runner after giving you a two fingered salute.

Well there was an incident when I was close to the cluster and had been sitting in normal space for a minute or so taking a few pictures, when something jumped into normal space with me  My ship said scan detected and then as I tried to centre my view... The game crashed...

Mentioned this a few months ago, I'm sure they will beef it up eventually.

LoL, but you will find that as you progress the Pirates get better ships and lots more goodies too, I've had a few close shaves, what I first took to be a slow old Asp I suddenly realised wasn't as my shields were shredded in about a second, it turned very quickly and I barely made it out with 5% left! Then I noticed it was shown as Elite Deadly or something like that!

Seriously though, I think the "Dangerous" bit in the title refers to the CMDRs. Also, as others have mentioned there are changes coming in release. A war seems to be the primary one.

They beefed it up at the start of Gamma with decent interdictions and then loads of people howled like a little girl that it was too hard.

Go figure.

So where's a good place near any of the start points for a good fight? I might as well have a bit of action or join the army before the release date. I want Danger and tea but mostly tea.

Yeah i was gunna put that. Oh and the tradings nurfed, player "griefing" etc.

I would like more challenge. Trading is only boring because there isn't enough piracy. I require more running the gauntlet style that was in the other 3 games.

Best bit of the game is taking out anaconda pirate lords. Feels like such an achievement.

I find the NPcs dangerous enough for me but if you want real danger here is some

1 - Go open play and hunt PVP Pirates

2 - open fire in a station

3 - Fly directly into the Sun works well

Exactly the point of this thread I've started, unfortunately without very much reasonable response so far.

I, too, think that ED should be more dangerous. But as soon as FD wil krank up the difficulty, complaints will start that the game is 'unfair', 'too hard', 'not relaxing' and what so not.
The problem is: You can not please everybody.
The question is: Who to please.

Personally, I hope FD will raise the difficulty again. More interdictions (especially when hauling valuable cargo) and interdictions harder to avoid. But I am afraid, this is not the way FD will go at the end.
