Rare Commodities List!

I dont know if its really worth it, filled my hold at Eranin with the rare brandy, flew all the way to SOL and got a measly 600Cr profit per ton at Galileo.

so where do you sell? Do you buy in one system then sell at next or collect and sell at end ?

They have 400 stock of rare at each end of my trip. It's the furthest apart I could find and set my goal to do it. Turns out it really is a nice trip. Remember your range needed and bring a fuel scoop and take some sheild and 10 mil of weapons and 20 mil or armour and nothing can stop you.

Fun at last :)

Oh, it is very much worth it. It can even be argued that it is too easy to farm massive profits from trading exclusive goods.

Look here for an analysis of the potential profits. The takeaway is that you need to travel at least 120 - 140 LY away from where you bought the rare goods to get the most juicy profits.

You've got to fly at least 130 LYs to get the best profits, as already said & shown in the graphs posted throughout this thread ;)

All the way ! That's 17 LY's

Yeah, wish it was. Its about 3 times that.

Ahh okay, in a little hauler thats a long way, and I cant fly by the most direct route. Took a whole tank of gas in the "white delivery van" to get to SOL. Maybe it will be profitable when I upgrade to a cobra or lakon 6. Cant spend as much time at the moment grinding as I did in the beta's..

Have to say thanks to everyone who has contributed positively to this thread, it's really made the game fun for me, exploring all these rare good places, plotting the routes and hunting (so far vainly) for more.

Just had a go at rare goods.

If its of any use here's the route I used with around a 19LY jump range in a t6.

132LY straight line distance

I just ended up trading my scoop for an extra 2 cargo slots. I realized it costs me about 12-15k CR in fuel for a 150-180LY trip in my Type 6. With two extra cargo slots I'm still making money, and it gives me a reason to check out random stations for outfitting along the way. All that may change when I find myself a Class A FSD though.

...bring a fuel scoop...

I've not been using a fuel scoop, I tend to find a system along the way that has somewhere to refuel that isn't far from the star. I'm working on the basis that the lost cargo space far out-weighs the cost of fuel, given I'm making 15,000 per tonne. Not sure to what extent the extra time required balances it out though.

I've tried most other things I'm interested in so far so I'm just stacking up as much cash as I can in the hope (probably misplaced) that the Fer De Lance is released before 16th and I can have a test drive before the wipe.

don't you guys think this is kinda cheating, having a list of where these items are? surely the fun is in the exploring and finding these items, not reading it on the forums and then making a mint? I find it odd that some are complaining that even this is too hard?

I feel like we are just pooling our resources. I know I was kind of hesitant at first, I had a nice run in my own little corner of the galaxy with no other CMDRs. I shared it here, and now I've got some company. And as far as cheating goes, I don't think so. I haven't played in over 24hrs but yesterday I was noticing the commodity amounts in all the stations I visited from this list were between 25-50 tonnes, that makes it pretty hard to fill a Type 6 and get the 1.5m CR payday. That shows me that the economy system is working properly (as demand goes up, supply goes down).

It's no different than sharing info in other games and no different than sharing info on other trade routes for non-rare commodities. This game needed something like this to make the grind more entertaining. It really has broken the (trading) monotony and seems nicely balanced in that one has to wait for the rare items to appear or choose to leave with with less cargo/less profit. Frankly, this seems like real trading/hauling now as one has to make an effort to get to the destination and earn credits. No more one hop and you're done. And anyone can do it if they choose to...

As I posted in another thread on the subject: a neat way to balance the rare commodities trading would be having them spawn randomly across a large range of systems on a regular basis, thus invoking a "gold rush" mechanic.

Which of course will attract the pirates and the bounty hunters as well, when they catch windfall of it.

I see where you're coming from but I justify it in my head by assuming that everyone in the galaxy knows about them - they are traded on the open market after all. I draw the line at copying down the routes, working out and refining those is half the fun for me - each to their own though on that.

I would like to see them a little more restricted in the final game - dependant on reputation perhaps, maybe you need to develop a specific contact to trade them in any great quantity. I just think if you have access to them right at the start then there's no incentive to try anything else.

well ive seen 200 qauntities today so....its all good

Hey OP, great list but... Can you add to the list something like distance to the nearest capitol?

Like, Achenar for Empire, Sol for Federation, and I think Alioth or something like that for Alliance?

It would just be nice to know because I don't plan to travel all over the galaxy, I want to make one faction my home, and then it would be nice to know where I should aim to look for some rarities without having to go too far away from home.

Also, copy-paste this into your post to make a pretty table that is easier to read:

I became bored with the broken exploration - it's no fun to explore dozens of locations and return to inhabited systems only to discover that I can't sell most of that data - so I decided to give this rare commodities business a try. And hey, it's great fun! Much better than struggling with exploration in its current state.

Carrying a full cargo of expensive stuff and trying to reach a distant station to sell them at a good profit is surprisingly fun and exciting. I'm now being extra careful with pirate encounters!

I have no interest in carrying crap from point A to point B with marginal profit, but this is something else. :)

so where do you sell? Do you buy in one system then sell at next or collect and sell at end ?
