General / Off-Topic Sci-fi anything

Not that i watch Dr Who, but on BBC news this morning they mentioned that one of the newer Doctors was asked that same question in one episode, and he said they can regenerate 500 or so times now.......sounds like the Thargoid Bar anything goes! :p

That was a Sarah Jane Chronicles episode guest starring Matt Smith, where the Doctor was asked how many times he can regenerate and he flippantly said 507. This was explained by the writers to just be a joke and not serious.

And everyone going that there can be 13 doctors are getting confused just like the millenium rubbish was when people claimed the real millenium was 2001. I still maintain it is 12 Doctors not 13, but ....

... as has been said, they're not going to end the show just because they run out of Doctors (regardless of it being 12 or 13). Doctor Who is littered with contradictions so I am sure the writers can come up with something to continue making the show.

The way that I figure it, the Time Lords have always been big on everything being of its time and no more. That's why Jack and Clara were abhorrent to those that could see they were existing beyond the normal bounds of spacetime. The idea of a being that becomes immortal would similarly be abhorrent to them. So when they developed the ability to regenerate, I imagine the Time Lords enforced a limit on the number of times they could do it. This would ensure that Time Lords were long lived enough to do what they were meant to do, but not so long lived that they came to take it for granted. 13 incarnations was all they were allowed. The master hit that limit, and had to start stealing host bodies to survive.

Then the Time War happened. All limits were removed. infinite regenerations, stop the Daleks at all costs. And the last thing that happened in the war was a time lock that prevented that executive order from being repealed, so The Doctor now has no limits. Neither did the Master, who was clearly beyond his limit by the time we saw him regenerate last.

That's what I think, anyway :)

No, there are 13. Previous stories involving the Master have relied on that fact, and the Valeyard is a potential version of the Doctor between his twelfth and thirteenth incarnations.

It was explained in earlier stories as a biological limit, albeit an imposed one. I'm not sure where everything stands on the Metacrisis Doctor, but there's clearly some leeway in it. I don't think they'll take that route, not when they can play the "Doctor's last life, this time he dies for real" drama card and find some magic juice that gives him more regenerations.

Bill Bailey... but if dreams came true... and they put it on after 9pm..

Keith Lemon OR my 100% WANNA SEE... Russell Brand

With Russell Brand you could have a new assistant/companion every episode...

If the Tardis is rockkin... don't come a knockin

Russel Brand? isn't that the erm, big girl with the moody attitude (to put it politely..) or that lanky Bristolian from Mock the Week?

Brian :)

Like, but Michael is so going to go after you in-game after all these pics of him! lol

In fact he will use his influence and put some in-game coding in ED to make sure there's a Thargoid ship following wherever you go

Psykokow is going to be the only player in the game that starts with a 10,000 credit bounty on his head, written into the game code........

And strangely a certain player ... one M. Brookes will always know where Pyskokow is and have a magic button that disables Pyskokow's shields, weapons, jumpdrive and onesies :D
