All I have to say on this is meh! We PvE'ers are not going to stop this being TF2 in space so I look forward to taking your cargo and watching your escape pod fly into the distance :p

I will filter you out of my universe with a mouse button click. My magic filter weapon can NOT be defeated!!

How dare you think such bad thoughts anyway, taking cargo is non consensual - better ask in chat first who agrees to your sinister intentions :D

welcome to Elite Temporary Dangerous ;)

The answer to the entire multiplayer debate is to offer a PvE only or PvP based experience. You choose one or the other, much like wow pvp and pve servers.

The largest issue that affects this route is: would it negatively impact on the number of other players we see and can interact with during game-play.

I concur.

PvE players - you will see more than if there had been a single PvP universe, as you'd have mostly gone solo-online or in private groups.

PvP players - you'll see pretty much the same number of players as if there had been a single PvP universe, as in that case all the PvE players would've been off in solo or private groups. So you don't notice much difference either way. And you're sure everyone in your PvP universe wants to be there and is happy to be shot at.

Although I picked option 3, option 4 would be my alternate selection.

Obviously 100 billion star systems are not enough to simply create 50% police guarded supersafe areas (PvE) and 50% lawless PvAll systems, without the need for some obnoxious, over complicated filtering system, who you can see, who can see you, filtering out each other because some people are scared of a little online pew-pew every now and then. Pathetic.

Well another missed opportunity for Darkfall in space or EvE with joysticks. ED should have been a mix of both and space is vast enough for that endeavour. Too bad the carebears win again.

Loving the drama darling! :D One might accuse you of overacting just a touch though. ;)

I think your comments are actually doing a lot of good work for those of us who want a separate PvE galaxy. Think about it, really think about it.

How about you get a calculator?

100 000 000 000 star systems in ED, and you need to split the player base?

Must be some kind of bad joke.

Even if ED gets 10 million players like World of Tanks, each player has 10,000 systems. Mighty scary odds to meet your badass 12 year old griefer, huh?
Get over your gankophobia, even with one ruleset and without little filter options to fade out two thirds of the playerbase, there would be so much space you'll hardly meet anyone, except at the central points which police guard your butt anyway.

btw,

People will switch around the filter settings depending on situation, this is what breaks immersion 100%

I will love to abuse the system like everyone else - why should I risk PvP when I have precious cargo? Let's quickly change the filter and set it back afterwards. Oh wait, why should I even want PvP if it doesn't offer any better rewards than easymode fighting AI?

Isnt't the logical increase in difficulty robot ship -> human ship ?

What do I get for taking the risk anyway?

100 billion star systems, isn't there enough space for simply guarded and unguarded systems? Higher rewards in the unguarded PvAll systems ones, because the risk is higher than in PvE safe systems?

First Star Citizen introduces that crappy PvE-PvP slider, now Elite adds a filter to remove people from the persistant universe.

Is CCP the only company which understands the term "persistent sandbox universe"?

Ummm - you do realise that at any given time you'll be in an instance of about 32 other players?

Even if it was 500 other players why on earth would it matter to you if the other 8 billion were beating the **** out of each other or flying round the universe in kaftans with daisies up their tailpipes singing kumbaya?

Either way you aint gonna see them

Uh - this is a game - you're supposed to enjoy playing it, not play it for "rewards" which are just bits on a disk somewhere. If you like to PvP, you'd obviously choose to PvP, right? Why would you go PvE for the "rewards" if you would enjoy PvPing your way to them more? That's just silly.

I can't see where in any of your posts you have any sensible reason for not wanting a PvE option. You won't see any of those players in your PvP universe anyway, even if there's no PvE option - they'll all be off in solo or private groups. The userbase won't be any more split with a PvE option than without one. So where exactly is it hurting your game to allow a PvE mode for those who'd like it?

Ughh - it really annoys me when people ask me serious questions when I may have had had a drink or two..

Hang on - will look it up...

Edit 1 - Obviously or not - that was in reply to Fromhell

Edit 2 - actually I really can't be arsed to look it up right now - sorry - I do realise the norm is to quote a source when making such a statement - but seriously - this game is instanced and the nominal cap is circa 32 players - I didn't make it up...

got a link to this... information?

It was in all the Kickstarter info and repeated since then. Not a hard 32 max but "around that number" according to FD. So you'll not have more than approx 32 players in a single instance at any one time; more instances will be created to fit extra players in. So, no huge Eve-style blob warfare (thank the lord).

Edit - ok, since ianw chickened out, here's the KS FAQ item :

Oh yes - I actually agree with you here - which is why I voted for PvE/PvP being set on commander creation and not possible to change afterwards. So you can't move from PvP->PvE or PvE->PvP. You'd still be able to hop in and out of solo/private groups but that's a different problem (or non-problem, depending on your view) from PvE/PvP.

So because CCP do something it means it's the best way? Why are you even here if they're doing such a great job, why care? Play Eve, applaud CCP's awesomeness and rightness on their forums and be done with it! :)

And should other offerings such as ED and Star Citizen just copy that model? If they're going to copy, why not copy another much more successful model like, oh I don't know, World of Warcraft? ;) I think it's quite cool that they'll all be doing something different (and let's remember nothing is decided with ED yet except the Ironman/Normal split).

So, no player contested areas? Fortune and glory for the brave?
No risk vs. reward? No player controlled territory and alliance wars going on?

No epic battles over an asteroid gold mine because to get there I can just set my filter to remove everybody as a shortcut and ruin my own fun?
