Landing on an orbital station

I haven't yet got my head round the nack or method of landing on these stations.
how do I observe the landing pad viz the position of the station outline next to the radar display.

also I assume that there is a correct orientation on the pad as I seem to have landed several times back to front. I assume that flying onto the pad with the pad number at the front is the correct approach, as I have found variable outcomes so far.

The only advice I can give is, if you request docking and you don't see the pad, then it's on the other side of the station. Just fly past for a short distance, slow down and turn around. and you should see it And when approaching the pad make sure the number of the pad is the right way around when approaching. So if you are told to dock at pad "01" make sure it says "01" and not "10". If it's reversed then you're approaching from the wrong side.

Here's a video that I made a while back. It's a bit long but of you fast forward to around 44:30 you'll see me docking at an oupost.

Usually the correct orientation is so you are facing the back wall, but very occasionally you need to face the other way (bug).

In your scanner you get a little picture of your ship when you get close to the pad, this needs to be facing forward.

As soon as you enter the door your mini radar shows you the position of your pad if you are struggling to find it.

There's also a blast panel (or whatever it's called) that needs to be behind you on the pad. In addition (and you can spot this from a distance) there's a yellow bar thingy on the pad that needs to be on your right, if it's on the left, you're facing the wrong way...

The video has given me the view that I am trying to do it the correct way.
It's just finding the correct pad when on approach

Notice in the video, that little radar on the cockpit, next to the globe, that little white circle inside the radar, that shows you where your pad is.

i should have made it clear that I am trying to land on the open platform stations dotted around and its finding the defined pad by using maybe the station outline on the display next to the radar display
