Update Reverted insurance changes in Gamma 2.06

Excellent. I was pretty vocal about this because of the way the game has been sold using the insurance as an incentive to upgrade to a higher price version of the game before each price deadline expired.

I'm so glad they reverted and I can go back to playing the game without a bad taste and negative feelings. I can grab the update and play a fantastic game.

Thanks FD

Excellent, some people were already getting their jimmies rustled about this - fantastic job guys (but get some sleep for goodness sake :) )

I think this is quite funny, all the moaning about it can stop now.

People were 'moaning' about it for very legitimate reasons...

Thankyou as quite a lot of people only paid the extra for the discount on the entire insurance cost. So thankyou for giving back what people thought they paid for.

That was the morally right thing to do and it is appriciated that you did that.

Which this guy gets...

I find it amusing how the community is always quick to tell you that -50% insurance cost is totally not pay2win*, yet when there was a change to that "tiny bennefit" there are a thosand posts of outraged people complaining that they payed 150$ only because of it.

*NO, pay2have-a-much-easiere-time-than-players-who-do-not-pay is not fundamentally different, it still can be summarised as pay2win.

As I mentioned in the other thread, it is possible to be both uncomfortable with the concept of the mechanic in the first place, but unhappy with the change. Right or wrong FD chose to offer the benefit for sale and It was the removal of something people paid extra money for was what upset people.

So was this actually a mistake now corrected, or was this intended and you guys changed your minds due to overwhelming negative feedback?

It was stealth edited into the patch notes after going live, so intentional rather than a mistake or bug.

Hi everyone,

In Gamma 2.06 last night we made a server-side change that made the ship insurance apply only to the ship, and not to all the add-on modules as it had done previously. This has now been reverted on the live servers to as it was before 2.06.

The team have been working exceptionally hard, so we appreciate your patience - thanks for being tolerant!

Cheers,

Ed

Thanks for listening. wont say any more on the matter, but FD made the right decision in principle, in reverting back.

To be fair, I said the same thing after the first thread lock. It has since been explained that the moderators do not work for FD, nor report to them. In this case dont chalk to up to FD, its just a little overzealous
(volunteer) moderation~

Yes, I'm glad that I used the short time window (today, 2:00 AM) with increased insurances to drive my near fully upped Cobra against an Anaconda!
Timing is everything!

Wow. All that belly aching for nothing lol.

Without the "belly aching" as you put it do you really think they would have reverted this change? I know you know it wasn't a bug or something that slipped in by accident etc.

I have seen many of your posts and while you like to appear as a calm and reflected poster I find the reality of your posts reveal themselves, over time, to be something far different with the passive aggressive insults and personal attack towards your fellow forum posters at large.

Shame, I thought it was a good change. I never wanted the discount in the first place, and I thought that applying it only to the ship was a great way of nerfing it without actually going back on the promise (although I never checked the exact wording to see if it was a breach of the promise or not).

Well if you don't want it ask them to remove it? To be honest, its a perk you paid for right? I don't die often, but let say I smashed my 200 million ship in wall next year. At least with this perk one doesn't have to grind as much to get what you lost, right?

I can live with it either way. I guess it isn't worth upsetting those alphas and betas who really want the perk.

My silver spoon is jammed in pretty tight, it seems. (I'm an Alpha)

My question regarding my experience with the discount is this: Repairs are costing more than the ship insurance. Doesn't this create a perverse incentive for commanders with the discount not to flee combat? It's cheaper to die than to repair...

Just to add my opinion here: I think the 50% and 25% reduction in rebuy costs is a big big big error in judgement. It's a HUGE permanent advantage for PVP players. If people talk about balance this and balance that and fairness and stuff, you should think about this and realize how big of an advantage 50% reduction in rebuy cost is:

An Alpha and a mere mortal player have a feud. They constantly do battle with each other. The alpha can afford to loose twice as many ships, or fly a twice as expensive ship. If the normal player looses a ship, he will have to grind maybe 2 hours to replace it. The alpha only has to grind 1 hour. If both have equal credit reserve, the normal player will always have to give up the feud earlier than the alpha. It's a 100% increase in a war of attrition.

I know currently we don't have this kind of PVP gameplay. But we hopefully one day will.

That might be a problem as well haha. An alpha player can afford to fight to the death instead of fleeing.

What was proposed was reversing the changes (which they did) so that people who paid real money for the perk didn't feel conned and cheated, but also provide a way for everybody else to get the perk too. That way it is still a perk for the backers, without giving an unfair advantage and returning to a level playing field.

I would still like to see a developer response to this.

I suggested quite a while back that:

Reach Dangerous rank and be invited to the inner circle = beta perk
Reach Elite rank = Alpha perk

Completely 100% fine with this, as it does not take away features that were explicitly promised/advertised/sold to customers. Adding things is good. Taking them back after using them as prime selling points is bad.

And when whichever moderator keeps beating on project52 for disagreeing with him gets fired we can all take our insurance savings and fly our cobras into the station walls together and try to shove it out of orbit in celebration.
