I'd say it is a docking sequence and the red is the computer assisted "tunnel" for docking or similar.

Yes, that probably answers that question! There may be a few complaints.

Docking bay. You're looking at the docking slot from the inside. On the right is a (very blurry) ship. There are information screens along both walls.

Hello I agree (with ollieclark) this must be a Docking bay! Below we can see the open hatch (with lights around in square) where the ship is stored via an elevator-plate. We can see the cylindric inside of an space station, the bright spots must be docking bays... could be that this is viewed from inside a virtual cockpit, because it seems that we have a HUD and some other displays!

Funny, up until the Kickstarter it was always known as Elite 4 and when the Dangerous title was announced It took a while for me to get used to it.

Now it seems right

I don't know why but for some reason I had it in my head that it was a working title at some point.

I do agree that it has stuck though, can't imagine it being called anything else now.

I was under the same impression, may have been a comment at the start of the Kickstarter campaign.

As oss133 said i'd be interested in how the name was decided and if any other were in consideration?

During the KS we pretty much had discussions/articles going "the worst game name in the history of the universe", but things have calmed down since then.

I still like to use Elite4 instead of Elite: Dangerous simply because it is shorter and reminds people that there were games in the series before this one.

I am not bothered by the name either way. I only really care how it plays but I just thought it would be interesting to see the process that went into the selection.

I always used to say that the IV in Elite IV stood for "Is Vapourware".

I always liked the title Elite: Dangerous. It's a good name for many many reasons.

Well, if you still want Elite IV its still avaliable on Play.com Sadly it may only be avaliable on the Xbox and PS3

Begs the question really if Elite : Dangerous is the current iteration (I really like the name btw) what happens next? Elite : Deadly and then Elite : Elite??? I presume after that DB will be able to retire
