Slaves: No Freedom!

There was once, a long time ago, a sport called American baseball. We named the teams with derogatory names which inflamed the Native American Indians, and eventually the names went away. Just because we were insensitive to a race and a culture and then blamed it on our ignorance, does not mean we should continue just because it was acceptable culture at the time, or part of the games DNA. Not good enough sir.

When I hear the word "slave" I hear another derogatory word in it's place (I won't mention the word here).

When I hear the word "stolen" I hear another word, "thief". No matter the context or excuse.

So, we acknowledge one race and delete the derogatory words from our vocabulary and games, but we exclude all others?

There is a wider audience here than you realize.

That is you tho. I have seen slaves of all races in different kind of movies and have always imagined the slaves in ED being white for some reason.

Its a game about space in 3300 where slaves can be former thieves that were captured and put into slavery.

My 2 slave-earned credits. ;)

That's funny, I saw the slaves as being a race of towering, hairy bipeds often referred to as walking carpets. ;)

The only problem with that is it works on the assumption that all 'clean' ships are flown (is that the right word?) by non criminals. In my original post the ship that interdicted me was 'clean' which would mean the slaves would still be 'stolen'. I attacked because it was an anarchy system and I was in a rush, that and he was about to fire at me.

In anarchy systems there are no laws, so technically all ships are clean. I see your point though, how about this change to the idea:

- In a system with laws (non-anarchy)
-- goods taken from a clean ship are always "stolen", like they are now (same mechanic)
-- goods taken from a wanted ship or found floating in space are "found" and those items are legal to haul around with an option to either sell on black market or give to authorities under "contacts" tab for a rep increase and reward that is smaller than black market price.

- In an anarchy system
-- All goods are "found", as there are no laws, so establishing ownership boils down to "I own what I possess"

Maybe if the goods originated in the anarchy system in question they could be "found", but if the goods were lost in an anarchy because a passing ship was attacked and destroyed, those goods would still technically have an owner that would want those goods back, and if that owner is out of system, they probably come from a system where there is a rule of law.

It won't matter in an anarchy, but if you try to take those "found" goods to a civilised port, the authorities might consider them stolen if the ship carrying them bought said goods in a non-anarchy system to begin with.

We are not talking about selling those goods in a civilized port, but about turning them to authorities in a civilized port. The culprit is that a "good guy" can't legally get them into the station to begin with - you have to smuggle regardless of your intentions.

So uhhh, has anything been done about this yet?

Was flying in an anarchy system conducting some less-than-legal operations when I came across a type-6 with a cargo bay full of slaves
spent about 15 mins blasting them out of his cargo bay and flew back to a station, but I'd really like to free them instead of selling them (hey, I may be a pirate but you gotta have standards!)
