Newcomer / Intro Close to throw it away!

Seriously... I gave it already a 3rd try. What the heck is this game about? I fly towards a black background, docking and undocking to find out that there is nothing of interest.

Tried exploring... holy crap, totaly boring! And most stations don't even want to buy the data.
Tried fighting... don't find any ships, unless federation (which is my faction)
Tried mining... as boring as it is in EVE, just with a lot lower profit.
Tried missions... only way to make some money, though you need a lot of luck to get a good transport mission where you'll earn around 5'000 credits.

Now my idea was to find some federation systems close to the empire in hope to get some fights there and earn cash through bounty. Well, turns out to be harder than I though to get there. Before I fly for hours (!!!!) to reach such a system, I wanted to ask if such content even exist in this early-access-full-price-alpha.
Just to make this clear: I don't have any problems with a steep learning curve and sandbox. I play EVE since almost 8 years and fly full real flight sims where you first need weeks of learning to fully understand the aircraft. This game just looks to me that there is no real content.

Thanks for replying... and helping a frustrated customer.

Many of the better missions come when you have built up your reputation with them by buying and selling at the market and doing the lame missions. If you concentrate on missions in one or two systems you can build up enough reputation to get the 750,000cr missions.

Also, watch the Galnet News feeds. These show up systems that are more involved in the story lines that are rolling out of FDev... We're still waiting to here if the Emperor is dead or what.

The content is what you make it. Short term and long term goals. Elite never was and never will be a shoot em up. More about doing your own thing, fighting when you want and trading. This is the start, more content will be added. Planetary landings etc.

if you want to shoot somebody up, go to recource extraction sites in asteroid belts of gas giants. plenty of pirates there

You don't even need to travel that far to find a fight, just look for an Independent Anarchy system. Especially if there are resource extraction sites in a planetary ring, you'll find tons of pirates there. (They'll mostly show up as "clean" because anarchy = no local crimes, but they'll be more than willing to attack you. Get a warrant scanner and you can collect on their bounties from elsewhere.)

In the system/area I am there are mostly stupid missions like kill missions which are not possible to finish, unless you are extremly lucky and find that pirate. Then there are aid missions which are a huge pain in the ass and even make your wallet smaller. So, maybe I'm just unlucky and just can't find the good systems. So I'm flying around, dock at stations and look if they have those 5000 trade missions. One out of 5 stations has one.

And gal net... yea, I checked it, and then? It's like 10'000 light years away, can't even reach those destinations.

IF there is content. Like I said, EVE is a sandbox game as well with the huge differents that is has content. How can you make your content if the game doesn't give you any content except the things I said already and tried out.
There's a difference between an arcade "shoot em up" and "search the black background for 30min for unidentified signals, if you're lucky there is a pirate".

In order to get a rank with the Feds you have to buy some stuff and give it to them for free. The upside is that this leads permits to systems and other things that other pilots don't have.

The Assassination missions: Search all the unidentified signal sources and watch your comms. You'll come across a pirate or trader who "just got away" and he'll tell you which system to find your target in.

Kill Missions: You go to kill your first trader. Watch your comms, you'll get a message that offers you more money to go after pirates. Take it, the original mission doesn't pay.

<snip>

It's not quite that far but if you are in for the action, you make your way over there and you get to decide, along with the other players, what happens in the universe.

I'll wait for more content as it comes. As for this game compared to some others, I'll say this (right or wrong): I think this game is for those who like to make up their own experience and story. It's more for those who like to imagine, rather than for those who like to slog through a storyline and reach "the end" as quickly as possible and move on to the next game.

I don't want to turn someone away from a game, but not all games are for all people. It seems this one is geared towards those who have vivid imaginations and don't mind not being spoonfed an experience.

You dont need to fly to federation space to find good bounties. Every second system has bigger bounties than the last one. If you find there are no good bounties in the system your in, go to the next one, or an unexplored system. I find doing this rewards with higher bounties. I bounty hunt in SC. Its like fishing! And I dont interdict anything lower than 3.9 thousand upward. 20,000 to 40,000 credit bounties are juicy, but you need to be a little better equipped for those.
The game doesnt have a lot of content yet but it will get better.

If you want a fight check the cartographic screen for low security systems, pirates are more likely to spawn there (in nav beacon, resource extraction, and mine cluster instances, they will show up on nav panel if you are within 500 ls or so sometimes further) most spawns seem to start in high sec systems to give new players a chance.

10,000 ly Jesus where are you !?! you have my sympathies.

I generally take smaller missions then load up on appropriate goods for the system i'm heading to, adds to the efficiency. Missions seem to be shared, so heavily populated systems can be a little sparse (i could be wrong on this).

Comparisons to Eve? thats been going a looooong time :) elite will get better. I think painting this as a full release was a mistake, its definitely early access! However don't give up, if its not currently your cup of tea, pop in from time to time, in FD's favour they work FAST and do seem to listen, so it should (fingers crossed) develop quickly.

To be fair in the first days of EVE there was very little developer created content but there was a community which saved its skin really because 10 people mining for a month to get a battleship you could lose in ten seconds was painful. Because this isn't a proper MMO it is really just a very empty single player game until they get some proper content in.

silly question, how do you check their bounty while in SC? is it just in the left panel?

Well at least that was the KS sale pitch, I am hoping FD sticks to its gun despite all the trolling (and the lack of moderation)
I trust Braben but I'd rather have paid-for moderators

A warrant scanner is your friend. It will tell you bounties available locally and throughout the systems. The less expensive ones are harder to use...but they can more than double the amount of bounty rewards you can collect. Good luck with your hunts. One other thing that will help you if you are tracking someone is a wake scanner. If you scan someone and they jump out on you, you can target and scan the high energy wake they left behind and see where they went and follow them.

If they have a bounty from the current system it will show up once they have been scanned as wanted rather than clean (without using a ks), the KS lets you check if they have bounties from other systems/factions. Warning if they don't have a bounty in the current system but do from others it is still a crime to shoot at them and you will get a bounty placed on you (edit: provided you shoot and hit first, interdicting is not a "crime").

That's the point.

Uninstall, end of the story. Sad for the thrown out money and once more listened too much on wrong promises from the developer. Brabens interviews and podcast are a huge difference than from what the reality is like. At least from my point of view.

Now what should I do with the game? I can't just sell it for a lesser price to somebody else and since it's registered on my name I'm not sure if I just can give it to somebody else.

as other replyers , i dont think its the game , its the same donwload , and i have already 100s of hours poured into it.

3rd time you said? i was for setting up the controls alone , 2 days busy , did you really try the game?

There aren't many controls. Try once the A-10C simulation from Eagle Dynamics. If you're used to such kind of things Elite isn't hard to handle.

Well, there are people who like this sort of content (and once more I point out to sandboxes in my first post), just Elite isn't that what I like. Good that you have fun with it. For me it's not.

Well if you don't want ot give it a real try, your loss financial and gamewise. Uninstall and move on. Sorry but that's it.

I remember the old elite games i spent my childhood winter anyways never off it loved the games i would love this as much if i could play servers down .Just did a mission got kicked now cant log in stuck on loading screen this is the only moan i have .The game will grow over time however Elite will need to change somewhat cant just do what we did 20 years ago,new players want more ships,Bigger,More guns stations systems and what not they like to feel a part of the story. And i am sure elite dangerous may go that way.X rebirth come out a year ago was not ready to be released tbh however i had a go at last week and it has come a long way .But due to the early release and epic fail it has lost to many players i hope they can get to grip fast with this game or it will end up same way

Its in the contacts menu on the left panel. You can see what weapons they are fitted with, in the sub targets menu. All those components are targetable too but you wont bother with that if your new to combat.
