So how quickly do you think you should be able to buy one of the biggest ships in the game?

Michael

I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably never have one. For me to get to Anaconda level assets in six months (is that unreasonable?) just to buy it I'd have to earn nearly a million credits a day every single day in the couple of hours in the evening that my average play time lasts. I'd never have time to do what I enjoy in the game, which is exploring and occasional bounty hunting. The Asp is probably as far as I'll bother grinding up to, much as I'd like to see the bigger ships some day.

I love it when the NPC ships go outside the dock then start brewing their afternoon tea.

As it seems they are doing that in Warzones as well.
Got rammed by a Clipper an hour ago, that was dogfighting an Anaconda.
As soon as i joined the duel, the Clipper Captain left his chair, maybe the water was already boiling, and his ship floated right into my Python.
2.5 Mio cr gone...

So crowded out there and so many crazy Captains out there.

That's not good enough! You should hire CLAIRVOYANTS so they can address tickets before they are being submitted! :p

^^^ Word.
Yeah because if you're not hardcore enough you should go play chess or Solitaire.

Ask yourself honestly - if you player Frontier, how quickly did it really get to say, the Panther Clipper.

I mean without any cheats?

A very apt name for a tea drinker... the Clipper Captain, no wonder he values his brew higher that his own ship ;)

Yeah...these kind of comments are really gonna help get them on here more often and interact with us.

BTW...Michael is the Executive Producer..."because I said so" IS his job! :D
Maybe for one of his employees, but we don't work for him.

Don't be too sad about it.
After all it is just a money sink in game mechanics.
All the cash generated has to go somewhere at last.
With all the upgrades this thing can suck up a billion credits, that's what it's meant for.
I was lucky to fly one during beta and i have no ambition to get one anymore.
It's big, it's slow, it's a sitting duck and expensive as hell.
Although i can understand the thought of just wanting to experience it, aim for the Python.
It will satisfy you more overall i believe.
(Of course i don't know what you intend to do or like) ;)

This is the way im starting to feel. I havent given up hope on ED yet but i am quite down about the direction we have been going in the past week or so. I work 60+ hours a week and have a family.

I have already decided to leave my type 6 parked, fly my cobra and bounty hunt, knowing any progression within the game beyond where I am is probably not in the cards for me. When my current money runs out Ill make a decision on whether I will try and progress or not.

I will not grind trade routes, so I hope they come up with something where you can progress meaningfully, and have fun at the same time, because as-is, its either-or.

Ok, finally, my first post in here.

First of all, i got quite mad after this patch. having discovered rare trading only a few days ago. The best ship i owned in the beta was an asp, i was hoping to get one fast again, to go exploring.
I went nearly berserk when i tried to sell my last 79 tons of Brandy from Lave, when i noticed that i would make a loss of around 160k by selling them at my target Destination, 140 ly apart.

Damn you, FD, damn you, Bugs - until i noticed, that, somehow on the 140ly trip, i startet reading the patch notes, saw red, and turned around to my starting Point by mistake. Dumb me.

So, sorry to FD for my thoughts on this. Later on, after i calmed down, i saw the benefit. No big ships in two days. Work, like in the old Elite i played back in ´84 (ok, landing is way easier now..make that harder, please ;-) )

And, finally, thank you, FD, and especially Michael, for taking all that heat while still delivering a truly amazing and wonderful game, which i think is the first one to bear the Name "Elite" since the Launch of the first one back in time.

You´re doing an amazing, and truly marvelous, Job.

Pyra

Matchmaking with friends has been much more reliable for my group since the last patch. A friend and I just spent several hours together doing Elite Anacondas hunting (those 150 000cr assassination mission). And believe me, they're not so tough against two heavily armed Cobras ;)

Great job FD! Tonight has been one of my best coop experience in Elite since I started playing the Alpha.

I didn't play it, so I couldn't tell you. I do know my friend and I both managed to get up to Anacondas in a few weeks in Premium beta when there was virtually nothing to do but trade runs. We knew and accepted that was too fast and the game wouldn't remain like that. The economic system was a lot more sensible and responsive back then than it is now, however, when there were only 50 systems.

And then they reset the game in the late betas, and we all lost everything. It's all been a lot more stable since then :)

I still think they should have reset again on launch day, just to give n00bs a chance, but maybe they wanted the game to be HARD. Not complaining, anyway - I think it's the best game I've played in years!

For what reason do you need an anaconda? just because its the most expensive ship in the game and you treat it as endgame goal? What will you do when you get the anaconda? I suggest, go back to a sidewinder and have some challenge and you will find this game is more than just have fattest ship.
You only set up your own goal but you will disappointed if you think you can own the galaxy :)

Thanks for the kind words. There's still a lot of hard work to come!

Michael

Michael, please take a break man. We want our Micheal to survive for all the good features down the road. Get some well deserved rest and thank's for all your help tonight.

Take good care

But... apparently they have getting an anaconda as a goal, just like you might have "getting challenges in a sidewinder" as a goal. None of those goals are inherently more right or wrong are they? the difference is that when taking into account that this is, afterall, a game, that goal is completely unreasonable for the average gamer due to the time investment :)

nobody is asking to own the galaxy, I think it is mainly a matter of a bunch of people feeling like upgrading their ship is where they get their feeling of progression etc. and that specific path of progression has been nerfbatted to hell.

I really don't think it is relevant to the debate about the mechanic what X person will do once they get their anaconda, or what you think would be a better way for them to play the game :) just like it'd be irrelevant if I added some oppinions on how I thougt you should play the game to make it more good for you :) I mean maybe to some peopl getting the fattest ship IS the bestest most fun.

Personally I just want to keep my asp running while doing conflict zone stuff to immerse myself in the story, but since conflict zone payout is still not .. well lets be diplomatic and say not really tuned to the expense of using bigger ships than the cobra, that isn't feasible. You could argue that I should get into a sidewinder but.. c'mon. I love my asp :D
