Lugh Event a failure - Taking over systems doesnt work

Interesting thread. Ignoring the fact that the effects were not apparent, is anyone concerned that it takes less than two weeks to trigger a civil war? One would think it would be a bit more involved than that.

Well it depends on how many players were involved I guess.
The faction was already an "independence faction" and all of a sudden, they had how many members of the pilots federation supplying them with resourses they could ever need, and the controlling faction's traders and systems authority vessels were being destroyed.
Take the town where you live; imagine an out side force arrived and started supplying a group that wanted to take over, whilst shooting everyone else who stood in their way.
2 weeks doesn't seem too short for that group to then START trying to take over.
We don't know how long a civil war would last once started, either.

And all 3 times absolutely nobody saw any difference in our gameplay. No war zones, no Galnet, no change in the game ( visible to players) other than "civil war critical" So other than a change in the line of text, SHOULD we have seen something else?
Yeah there really should be detected by the player more than just a text row in the galnet. It needs to feel like a big thing. If this happened in real life there would be tv, radio, newspapers and people going bananas during the build up, and then finally war breaks out where events kick in and more NPC's all over. More feds scanning you in those nearby systems, military ships. Something that stands out. Maybe formation flying ships here and there with military names etc.

Having a galnet news feed to click as the only thing when this happens i think lots of people will completely miss it and have no idea they are in a system with war build up. FD needs to make escalation to war and other bigger events much more "colorful" with news, visuals and audio. Maybe to begin with a comms message when coming close to such a system as you approach stations. Maybe the station voices that you hear in the background could be clearer at such an event on many nearby and the actual system that speaks of this. Maybe issues it like a warning once in a while when docked.

I hope they can come up with something with more impact and immersion for the player. A galnet news bit saying "its war in this system" without the player seeing/hearing/feeling it is not enough because many can and will miss reading it so they fly through a war torn system and dont know it. Very happy you guys & gals did this though, and nice to hear FD got good data out of it. Now we know it works, and now we know it needs to be improved for the player to get the feel of it.

would be grate to be informed, thats something that could show up in your infobox topright your HUD. i mean: whats that thing good for?^^

few times i saw "föderale Flottenschiffe" (in englisch "federal warship" i think) in sc, but it never came to my mind, that there could already be a civil war going on oO

Once Civil war breaks out it shouldn't 'flap' there should be an intermediate zone that takes some effort to cross.

I believe this is what the Devs saw and subsequently fixed. We triggered it THREE times but it flip-flopped, and the devs fixed this.

So if we manage to trigger it again, it SHOULD hold now.... and go into whatever the "next stage" is.

Amazing team effort and also very nice background sim breaking...errr...testing :D Yes, more feedback is needed from change of states (missions now reflect this more successfully, but there's room of improvement). FD has this nice engine which can spawn lot of interesting NPCs, generate newsfeeds, etc. Possibilities are huge. Most interesting thing is newsfeeds - however as current UI stands, it makes hard to generate them and not to drown major and important ones.

It was a concerted player effort. Under normal circumstances, especially as the launch crowd moves on and as players spread out, it'll take months to years for this kinda thing to happen.

Which I don't think is necessarily a good thing.

Big props to Flin and orfeboy for rallying the masses - it really was great fun.

Also, I'd still be up for giving it a second try to see if we could push it over the edge this time!

We stopped trading 3 days ago. At least we communicated that.

Well he didn't say "player trading" can have a big impact against your efforts.
If it is the background trading simulation / NPC traders not only tend to produce equilibrium in terms of prices and goods, but also tend to prevent famines, outbreaks and civil war by delivering certain goods. If that was the case they would have to turn off the whole background trading or they had to reduce it's effect while giving more effect to missions. There's probably a way the system can be tweaked. Or they have to completely redo it - ouch.

Flin and Orfeboy I think your tactics were sound and still in lugh to try again.

P.s. Orfeboy I was a huge fan of 2000AD (every saturday morning) and if I remember correctly the Slaine (the beserker) story at it's graphical best, involved most of the characters from the the story of Lugh. You maybe too young but it's worth checking out, 2000AD wasn't all Judge Dredd :D

Sir you're an ass. Any trading in Lugh helps the Federation...whereas trading from the bulletin board for Crimson tide only helps an Independant ... Go figure.

It depends on the state that becomes active, but you get conflict zones if a civil war starts. Changes to the economy and to missions in response.

Michael

Is a civil war outcome determined by a measure of the combat performance on either side I.e. Number of kills scored over a period of time, which of course players can massively influence?

I wonder if I want to help Crimson by taking down non-Crimson ships within the system. Can I go shoot them down without picking up pirating/killing missions and still able to affect the influence ??

Just read this thread, and I get the impression that the attempt to overthrow the feds has been (semi) abandoned by the Freedom fighter players? Which would be disappointing as ED are seemingly trying to iron the bugs out and get it to work ..the way they envision it happening

Is this a fair assessment?

If the fight is going to carry on I think I might well pop over (well, a 120 LY 'pop') and join in, but if it is being abandoned as a stress test on the game system .. would make the trek a little pointless

I have been in Lugh from the start and I am allied with CSG - I only left a couple of Days ago, now in Sol - will make my way back there tonight to provide support

Hi, flin

A question please:- was this action a group thing or was this in open play?

Because I have been playing In open play and not heard anything about this in game, only on forum.

All I can say is you were doing the right things and that trading can have a big impact against your efforts.

The brilliant idea of letting people in solo mode influence this things is paying off then. (/sarcasm) There should be a negative multiplier so solo online griefers have less effect in this events.

Well at least we got more information now.

This has been an awesome event to watch unfold...well done all involved! There were bound to be some bugs as its not been done before, and still hasn't ;)

Did you start this to win a battle, or to win the WAR?
-Don't give up the first sign of a bloody nose, you must keep fighting else Lugh will never be free! :)

Are you still awake!!!

Hold on...so am I!

Yeah...better get to bed now...:D

He will not be sleeping this week, as any father knows the first weeks of a new borns life they never sleep though the night. They constantly wake up needing feeding or changing ;)

Actually you triggered civil war three times, but it didn't hold. We've since fixed that. It was an excellent test and kudos for the attempt.

Michael

Thanks for the input Michael at lease we now know we were doing things right.

If that's the answer, then that's the answer. I'm genuinely curious because it seems like the perfect thing to have requested from a bunch of eager testers. :)

Im confused, I thought the game was no longer in testing, its in full release isnt it?

Beta and Gamma are finished.
