Bored of the game already

Don't get me wrong, as I say I'm still playing and I'm still having fun and I realise they had to just make things functional to get the thing out the door and improvements will come with time but ... I dunno, it just feels ... like I said thin. I can't really articulate it better than that.

Let me try - what ED currently lacks is causality, a sense that there is a logic behind what your seeing and sense that your actions have some small impact on that logic. People were giving examples in another thread of NPCs carrying random cargo that isnt being bought or sold at the local station, of following PNCs that never dock in any stations, of being able to kill countless pirate or trader NPCs without any local market impact and various other anomalies.

As for "lacking imagination" - are we supposed to imagine that NPCs are carrying appropriate cargo when they clearly arnt, are we supposed to imagine that NPCs dock when they travel between systems when clearly do not ?, are we supposed to imagine that we are helping local markets to keep flowing by taking on pirates when it has no effect on supply levels ?.

Obviously some people are content to essentially be pure observers in the game, wandering about fighting/trading/mining/exploring etc with no concern as to whether what they are doing has any effect and thats fine. But there are those of us who notice and are bothered by these anomalies and lack of causality. Its not that we want to be lead by the nose or hand held, we just need the interaction with the game world to be a two way thing rather than just one way.

There really isn't much to do in the game other than trading, bounty hunting and exploration, which are really just doing the same thing over and over.
I've seen a few players in game on my radar, but that's it. No chat, no interaction at all.

Is the game really this shallow?
Please tell me what do you guys do to enjoy this game...

Did you find anything in this material world which will not get old or boring after a while? I don't think so. Accept the reality. All material things get boring.

I've been bored with this game since Alpha, so I can't blame you. Take a brake and come back at some time next year maybe there is something new and interesting by then.

I'm not having a go at the OP but I think it really helps if you have a good imagination when you play. I know most games these days hand hold you at all times and spoon feeds you content but this harks back to the games of the 80's where you neded to use your imagination and use your head meat to think things out.
Oh this argument gets on my nerves so much. This game has been compared to a sandbox without any toys but that to me is not a good description - in this sandbox you can't even play with the sand. You are given five "toys" or game mechanics if you will, and told to repeat them indefinitely. Myself, and clearly many like me, need more of a challenge, more depth to our "toys".

If you and others like you are able to entertain yourselves by repeating the same five things over and over again in a randomly generated (and staggeringly uniform) sandbox, while imagining a background story, that is great, but do not accuse the rest of us of a poor imagination. We spend time in these forums because we want to see this lovely tech demo become a real game, with complex and logical game mechanics that can be approved on by player skill, not by time spent noting things on pieces of paper. I can happily imagine a story behind my actions if the actions themselves have some entertainment value. Currently it takes about a week to have tried everything...

(Edit: I was a little harsh there, the dogfighting is actually quite varied given the amount of different outfitting options you have, the tradeoffs between the different gear, and the option of targeting individual systems. Still though, there are few foes that can't be dealt with given one good setup, so there is little incentive to vary what you are using if you find something that works.)

Dunno, whats wrong with certain people, if i dont like a game or get burn out playing to much. I shelve the game, or come back later...simples

Why people have to start threads about "how bored they are etc" i just cant comprend.
Then you get the Trolls, the so called players who post in most of the negative threads, with there negative biased attitude. Just check out certain commanders threads and look at all there whine posts or replys!

If you dont like the game..fine walk away!! get a life and stop making negative posts, and negative replys...its very tedious and petty.

The core problem with the game imho is that we are given nothing to manage. Perhaps out of respect of the 20-year old Elite, or out of the fear that people would call it a X-Series or a EVE clone, but instead of giving us even something small to manage in the game (character development, mine refinery, own loft in a space station, something??) it's all you are on you own on your spaceship, this is your story, you have to make it or brake it to the Elite Rank! Read the lore from the galnews and imagine that there are all this amazing events going on in the "background simulation".

You are on a grindy journey on your own to get the ship and rank that you want. But what the game totally is lacking is the feeling of satisfaction from your journey. When you succeed in doing something, you get few credits and that's that. The ultimate satisfaction is to get a new ship. Your actions have no real consequences.

Frontier Developments could have something to learn from Bungie and Destiny in terms of how to make a personal journey on a grindy game that gives you a feeling of satisfaction when you succeed in something. Alternatively, they could give us something to manage to keep the players interested in the gameplay.

I must admit the lack of content is getting me down a bit. People keep saying it's a sandbox, but well a sandbox should have some toys in it. What we have currently is just a big heap of sand. A very pretty heap of sand I'll grant you, but it lacks a certain something.

Leaving aside mining (boring) and exploring (not for me) you can trade and you can shoot stuff, or do missions which are just trading and shooting stuff. It gets a bit thin after a while.

I'm still playing because I enjoy the combat and things like the Liberate Lugh campaign which is at least an interesting experiment even if it doesn't seem to be going anywhere but everything feels kinda hollow atm. Everywhere you go is the same. Same stations, same missions, same economies. There's no persistent NPCs, little player interaction and just no sense of life to the galaxy.

I'm confident that the game can get there in a year or so but I worry that the majority of people will abandon it before then due to lack of content and the game will go into a death spiral.

+1 This is exactly how i feel too. I am still playing, and enjoying most of it, but i wonder for how long, even now i can only go a few hrs in one day before switching off.

And in answer to an earlier post i am 58 yrs old, been playing games since i was early 20's.
But now i have got used to modern day games, we can't all be stuck in the past, and i for one moved with the times. A game in 2014 based only on a 1980's game, will not cut it.

I am retired due to health and housebound mostly, but there are games in my library i have played much more in the past, over 1000hrs in one game.
If this game "hooked me" like others have, i would be spending even more time on it.
And i am trying to like this game, i really want to. Heres hoping for the future.

Why people have to start threads about "how bored they are etc" i just cant comprend.
I can explain my motives for the thread I started and why I post in these:

Firstly, I disagree strongly with the standard "get an imagination", "instant gratification", "hand holding / spoonfeeding" responses. They insinuate there is something wrong with the player, I believe there is something lacking in the game. See my earlier response in this thread and this thread that I started earlier.

Secondly, I want this game to be "the best it can be". I believe there is huge potential in the framework we currently have. Walking away is giving up and letting the "I'm happy with a blank canvas and no paintbrushes" crew run the show ensures I don't end up with something I find worth playing.

Don't assume people who are negative are trolling, they may simply be disappointed and frustrated. I certainly am as I was really looking forward to this game. I will most likely follow the advice of others and shelve it for a few weeks and spend my free time on something else this Christmas.

As others have said, take a break and play something else for a bit and come back when more content is added. That's what I'm doing to be fair. Just having some time away so I don't get burn out, and playing my way through DA Inquisition. When I'm done with that I'll make a triumphant return and it'll all be fresh and new again. :D

For those that are struggling to find new & challenging things to do, here's a few ideas:
  1. Destroy an Elite-ranked NPC of each ship type, while flying an Eagle.
  2. Same as 1, but while flying a Sidewinder.
  3. Same as 1 and 2, but target CMDRs instead.
  4. Successfully smuggle illegal goods into a high-security station's (not outpost) black market, without getting blasted to smithereens.
  5. Relieve a CMDR trader's cargo hold of it's heavy goods, and sell said goods.
  6. Relieve a CMDR miner's cargo hold of it's heavy goods, and sell said goods.
  7. Do all of the above with Flight-Assist switched off...
Fly safe CMDRs :)

This is a serious issue, one that if not addressed immediately by the mods will eventuall tear down the forums and the game

This is a clear example of "I don't like how the game works so change it otherwise no one will play it"

Please, just find another game

I get the impression the game was made for the fans of the old series just as a polite thanks. Original OP you are 100%, this game has very little to do(que the pitch forks). After getting my Cobra also and spending 2.6 Million on its upgrades there seems to be nothing else for me to do now, yes i have done everything, even that god awful mining lol. With a Oculus this game would get a bit more life out of it but not much. I have had fun and enjoyed my time with it, I wont uninstall it just yet but keeping an eye on it for a little longer. Hopefully some additional content will bring me and others back. No man sky next then I guess Star Citizen.

Simple answer is: stop grind and start playing :) Enjoy the galaxy, the exploration, read the information about different factions, look at political interconnections, try to find yourself a nice home base, set custom goals - visit the Earth, go to Polaris etc. Slow down and take a closer look at what's happening around you :)

Maybe it is a bit of a grind. But, I haven't let that discourage me. I started out in the middle of no where. I've never landed at a station and found more than 5 other ships have visited it in the last 24 hours. Unusually, I am the only one. I started doing a few missions and some sightseeing. It wasn't long before I was friendly to a minor faction. That is where the story and fun really started for me. I discovered that one of the neighboring systems doesn't particularly like my new found friend and were willing to pay me to betray them. I decided not to. But found it interesting enough to find out who else they don't like and become friends with them. Soon, I was taking missions that would affect that factions grip on their home system. I have worked hard and have managed to lower their influence several percent. I find that satisfying. It has let me build a story of my own in the galaxy. This game is a true sandbox. The tools are there. You just have to provide your own motivation to use them. If it feels like a grind then it's a grind. If you do the same things but with a purpose (a goal) then it feels much more like an adventure. I don't consider my ship it upgrades to it as progression.

I agree. This game gets very boring as soon as you try everything and see how shallow it really is at the moment.
In the current state this game is never going to get popular: the game doesn't have content to entertain players for more than several weeks.

stop grind
the exploration
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't exporation in ED one of the grindest grinds imaginable? It surely doesn't rival mining, but it's very much repetitive and grind-y.
