Adder cockpit and ship design - not great!

I only wish i could haul a large Space Trailer behind mine! ;) I enjoy the Hauler and the Adder.. more then any ship at the moment (but ive only made it to the Lakon so far.. I like the closed in cockpit,, it makes it feel more "shuttle-ish".. and since its not a fighter, i dont want a dome of glass around me like the Eagle..

For its role i think its perfect too!

I'm pretty sure the adder cockpit is not actually finished yet, and that's the basic blocking/rough texturing pass.

I agree about the feel of the cockpit, campervan with a dash of Volvo trucker, but I can live with it. I assume there's a manufacturer's design ethic in play here, though I haven't played any other ships of theirs; just a guess. What I really really don't like is the amount of glare off the dash in sunshine, it's way too bright, and it's hard to see the mining HUD at all sometimes. I think we could have had an exploring version, and then a mining version with a dark dash so that it would be much easier to grab those rocks in any lighting conditions.

The second thing is the FOV from the "right hand" window, which is identical to the FOV from the center line and shouldn't be. For example when you see the radiating lines from a hyperspace tunnel, they should be slightly shortened on the left and lengthened on the right, because you're observing from the right. Likewise a rock up close and center should appear to be slightly to the left.

Otherwise yes bring on the fluffy dice and can we have a sunshield with a holder for the Ray-Bans and the Yorkie Bar please.

Not sure I agree with your FOV conclusions. Wouldn't your observation 'center line' be relative to you the observer rather than the centerline of the ship?
While I'd agree the Adder is not the pritiest ship in the game I find it to be one of the most interesting and fun to fly. It's cockpit makes the Adder one of the few unique cockpit in the game. I find the Sidewinder, Cobra, Viper, all seem very similar from the pilots seat, as if they were all cut from the same cloth. Same can be said of the Type 6 and 9. Initially I thought the Adder would feel like a variation of the Hauler, but that right hand seat puts it in a league of its own.

The cockpit isn't my favorite, but it fits with the Zorgon Peterson cockpit designs so it's what I would expect in one of their ships.

This.

FD have been incredibly consistent with their design aesthetic here and the Adder is just another classic ZPG design. Cheap plastic, practical, functional, virtually no coolness or sense of style. I bought an Adder last night because stats-wise its a great ship but I'm going to sell it because I hate the aesthetics. But it still makes me smile because I have to love it for what it is...a cheap, effective, ZPG workhorse. It's just not for me...I need a larger Core Dynamics ship to be honest... :)

I disagree with the OP. I really like it, especially the 2 coffee mug holders. Sure it's cheap plastic and stuff but you also feel well protected in it. Only missing a bed and a coffee machine in the background and some stuff lying around. The only thing i dislike is that it lacks some ambient light. Looking forward it's usually completely black despite all the light sources in the cockpit.

I like the hull design of the adder, personally. It has a neat, old school space shuttle vibe to it.

The cockpit feels a bit empty though. It could use some more electronic doodads, a cabinet or two, and a bed. Sort of like an 18 wheeler sleeper cabin.

There's already more than enough empty space back there for something like this.

So I bought an Adder a few day's back, had no intention of flying it, just wanted to check it out. I have to say for rift users it's awesome, feels just like being right seat on the flightdeck of an airliner. I'm keeping mine as a shuttle between my Type-7 and ASP. The visibility is poor compared to other ships, but that's what makes it feel so cool in the rift.

It really is just a cheap shuttle (Like the Hauler)

Anyway OP, luckily for you, plenty of other ships exist in the game!

If the window on the center top can extend to the cockpit seat, it will be better.
Spec-wise, it is quiet good with generous slots to fit in whatever you want for internal modules.

And I do think it looks like a cartoonish dolphin....

I love my adder, the only problem I have with it is that the cargo scoop seems to be a little off.

I thought it was the shields, but it's not. I'm not a genius at maneuvering to get the angle right on a rock, but I'm not this bad.

Maybe the problem with the Adder is calling it the Adder, which sounds, oh, lean, mean, thrusting and venomous. According to WikiPedia, adders are members of the viper family and in ED, the Adder is no Viper. Possibly, had the lore permitted it, Hamster would have been better? ;-)

I love my Adder for the same reasons that have already been said, it has this cool space trucker feel. And yes, while mining at first I found the cargo scoop to be a little bit annoying then I just adjusted by thinking that I'm not stting in the middle of the ship and it works, basically you have to line stuff in the lower left corner of the cargo scoop view. Still, even if I'm not in the middle of the ship I would think the cargo scoop monitor is based on a camera, sensor, whatever on the cargo scoop itself, not under my seat, so it should still be centered...

I've had this problem to. If you get the crosshairs dead center it works, but there isn't any room for error like the other ships.

this little ship is very OP for it's size and price, just like the Cobra

i don't even know why you complain about it, it's OP as hell, and few hours later you will be able to buy the ho mighty Cobra

If it was flown from the left seat, it would conform to most of the civilian aircraft I have flown, and life would be easier.

The loss of visibility on the Adder is a problem during docking and combat.

It's thrusters sound like someone who had too many White Castle sliders the night before. :(

Apart from that, it's a versatile ship.
