GREAT VIDEO! Excited that slavery is being handled properly. There is a REASON slavery doesn't exist within civilized countries anymore, and I really doubt I could believe that in the future we havn't advanced as a species. It would really detract from the believability in my opinion. Also, its good to hear that freeing slaves is an option. Not just because its the right thing to do, but because more options is ALWAYS a good thing.

I'll just say one word on the Slave subject... The Ood.... (OK, so that's two).... There must some races out there, similar to The Ood, that thrive on subservience (and no, I'm not talking about THAT type of subservience you dirty sods!)...

Fully-bearded here - support the Beard Liberation Front.
So ... this guy is your hero?

From your Fiction diary (nice btw) you said that worlds aligned to the Empire had to abide by certain laws ... and worlds not aligned to the Empire have no such laws and that's great to hear .. who else is going to scrub the deck and feed the parrot ?

Oh you expect me to ?!

Walk the plank sir .. :D

Feed your own Parrot! Arrgggghhh! :D

It was another great update, E:D is going to have a lot of depth and will be hard to choose which area to start in.

I'd like to know if players can sell themselves into slavery. In the diary, Michael said "for a fixed time" for an upfront cash sum. What would be the implications for a player who was a slave (other than the cash sum)? Would they have to work for another individual or organisation (like the Imperial Navy)?

I like the possibility of reading one of the books and then visiting the same place and see a plaque which makes reference to that event - very nice touch. It will encourage people to read books and then visit the places and tick off those tourist attractions!

So is there still an underground slave trade in federation and alliance worlds where it is technically illegal? are these the places where it is less pleasant?

presumably it is legal in anarchies as well?

and can you still scoop them?

Can you buy slaves to crew your ship?

Slaves get yer slaves..... :D another great vid from Michael. I hope there is going to be a slave rebellion placed in the game at some point like a Spartacus moment, then the players could choose if we help the rebellion or fight to squash it......

One could easily imagine the slave liberators being viewed in the empire like modern day PETA. There may even be people that don't like slavery and don't keep slaves themselves, but still find the idea of forcefully liberating slaves to be wrong. And slaves themselves may not want to be freed, and may not consider themselves "slaves" in the sense that we know it.

PEST - People for Ethical Slave Treatment

I like this new revelation. The idea that slavery is something that low-income people can slip into shows that the people at FD have a very black sense of humour. Saying that slavery is voluntary allows empirical players to more easily justify their position.

Of course this is all nonsense spouted by Empire Ambassadors. Do the people captured by pirates have any say in the slavery they now find themselves? As for transporting them as common cargo, how many times must something happen before you have to make a law to prevent it?

Buy Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 ... and the Wild pack (or buy the Platinum edition)
Build a Chimp enclosure. Put Chimps in it.
Put a lion in. :D

I have yet to see if the lion eats people if it escapes :D

Does that mean you can't drag and drop people into the lion enclosure? That's a shame ;)

Great entry alongside this listening to the Lave Radio Con stuff, which was excellent. Really enjoyed the titbits we're getting on the back story. And Drew's prologue sucked me right in, it was excellent.

I can picture the scene. There's been a Galactic-wide market crash. The banks are unwilling to lend money and they start aggressively collecting outstanding debts. countless millions of people who were on the breadline find themselves now under it, and they have no choice but to accept servitude.

Years after the market crash the slaves outnumber the Empire Citizens by hundreds to one, and then a rallying cry echoes throughout the Empire, "The choice we had was no choice at all!"

The slaves rise up, and the masters realise their mistake in delegating the security of their households to servants they thought they could trust.

Yes it is true that this is all just a dream, but it's one which puts a smile on my lips.

The 'breadline' is a Federal concept designed to force it's citizens into work they have little choice of. Fall below it and you're a beggar, an outsider, an undesirable. What kind of civilised society would allow such catastrophe to befall it's members? What kind of morality would tolerate such shameful misery? Corporate greed is the true monster of Humanity; with it's wicked lies of happiness and illusions of personal progress. The Federation is a whole scale manipulator of it's own people and then presents itself as a guardian of equality.
The Empire has a honest system of status that is impossible to misinterpret. Everyone has a place and knows their place. It's a dream made real through the genius of The Emperor and the glory of his Navy.
Besides, rebellions are always localised and quashed before they can gain momentum. Those Amphitheatres don't fill themselves you know! :p

Why must it be "either - or"? Of course it's a fallacy that "everyone in the Federation is free", as is the fallacy that "everyone in the Empire is well cared for".

The laissez-faire attitude of the Federation has allowed these vile MegaCorps to florish. I shall have no truck with them. The best worlds are those which rein in the power of corporations to ensure they work for the good of the common people. This happens in some of the worlds within the Alliance.

Nice one Michael.....Whose been practicing in a mirror then :D

That's a lot of info to take in on just slavery.....it all just seems so real..

Did anyone notice the ship moving in the background as it was mining.....
Scroll through the video fast ...boy does it move :)
