Hunt X amount of pirates mission bugged?

Its my second mission now that i'm trying to do today, and i cannot seem to complete it.
I've hunted far more then asked and still no completion. (in the right system)

This used to work, any ideas?

Did a couple of these type missions today. They do work the only thing to remember is not all wanted are pirates.

Try hunting in nav beacons and USS, but alternate so you get more chance of finding therm.

Maybe you're having this issue: not every wanted NPC is a pirate, only those of a specific faction. It's the one with an "anarchy" government in the system map, or "unfettered" in the influence window.

I've noticed this as well.

Killed Wanted in USS, wanted in Nav Beacon, Wanted who interdicted me, wanted who I interdicted....out of about 9 kills, 1 counted towards the mission.....I ended up abandoning it because I could have been there all night.

Afaik only pirate kills in USS do count towards those missions. Not sure about the nav beacon but stuff that interdicts you or vice versa just simply doesn't. (ticketed already)

Nah I've completed all the similar missions in planetary rings, it's really a faction issue.

The way i do it is to bait my hold with 1 ton of gold and one ton of palladium. When you encounter ships at a USS, sometimes they will scan you. If they are pirates having the bait on you will guarantee they attack.

These are the ones most likely to go towards fulfilling your mission.

Did the transaction tab on the left side counted your kills towards the mission? There should be a count till completion.

Besides to "identify" a pirate please find a brief guide from another thread about this item:
Pirates can be identified in any of three ways. First you can check which minor faction they belong to, factions with words like gang, mafia, posse, pirate etc. in their names will usually count for this mission. The second method is anyone who asks you for cargo is a pirate and will count. The third method is to target their subsystems (default 'y') and see if they have piratical gear, in my experience those with one or more of the following pieces of kit, FSD interdictors, cargo scanners, hatch breakers will usually count for the mission. Hope that helps.
.
You don't need to be in USS, but can also be in nav beacons or extraction sites.

This is what I do, works a treat :)

My problem is I get these missions in empty Anarchy systems. I'll hunt USS till the timer runs out and not find enough pirates.

I've had that problem. As far as I've seen theres no solution other than to recognise the names as empty systems and not take the mission.

If you stay throttled down at minimum SC speed then it's quicker to get into USSs.

You can sit at minimum indefinitely in some systems and get no USS.

Didn't know that. Second thing you've put me right on this evening, thanks! I wonder if entering and leaving SC a time or two might trigger something happening...

Yeah I had this yesterday. Two systems both completely empty. In about half an hour at minimum I got one USS which was the counter offer one. I gave up at that point.
