Please make the game harder

I agree entirely. And I imagine it will come, or at least I'm hopeful. It's very early days, I mean we can't even land on planets yet.

Yep, I also expect (hope? pray?) it will come. This full-size galaxy FD created can never, ever, EVER be filled with "enough" stuff and gameplay mechanics. Because... Galaxy. :)

Why not make solo mode easy.. Open hard or am I oversimplifying things? :p

Some of us don't want solo play to be easy. This is a common misconception i think among proponents of open play. We want a balanced game. Not easy, not hard, just something that can give us a challenge when we are seeking it, which i don't think is so different from the majority of open players either.

Many of us who play solo i believe are largely doing it to avoid other players, since, this being an internet game, and according to my research on people on the internet (TM) is full of jerks. :D

Actually, main reason i'm predominantly playing solo at the moment is because i'm exploring. Playing solo theoretically should cut my network overhead, and i get enough disconnections at 1000LY out as it fails to take me to the next system. Also, i'd really hate to make it back to inhabited space with hundreds of systems scanned in my little unarmed hauler, just for someone to interdict and destroy me (although a recent patch i think said you don't lose discovery data now if killed... but i wouldn't like to test that).

When i'm a little bored of exploring, i might give open a try, but ill make sure i've got at least some weaponry with me before doing so.

In order to offset any 'please make the game easier' threads I would like to voice my opinion on making the game harder.

So far I have been bounty hunting. I worked my way up from a sidewinder to Adder to Viper, things are going pretty well... perhaps too well.

I have killed hundreds of harmless/dangerous/elite NPCs and gathered ~1mil Cr from bounties, however I have only died (I think) 4 times. The trouble is this:

Death 1: Crashed into station exit by trying to be too fly and boosting out. (Sidewinder)
Death 2: Boosted into an enemy NPC Python doing a super fast guns blazing attack. (Adder)
Death 3: Forgot to ask for permission to dock and flew in to the station. I thought, it'll be fine I'll get in then ask.. well... (Viper)
Death 4: Boosted into an enemy NPC Anaconda doing a super fast guns blazing attack. (Viper)

So of all my deaths 2 have been in combat against FAR superior ships but they have been down to my poor piloting skills and not the Elite skills of the NPCs. If I keep calm and stop trying to show off then the NPCs stand no chance. Also... why are wanted Novice pirates flying Pythons in Federation space with no shields?!?! How does a novice get such a big ship? He must be joy riding cos he stole it from his parents or something, I mean seriously, Pythons shouldn't die to me so quickly. There should only be Dangerous and Elite pilots in the larger ships.

PvP would be a good challenge but I am scared to fight Commanders because I don't want to end up on a griefing server and I have yet to see a wanted Commander (but that'll happen in time I reckon), but this game has little regard for PvP currently which saddens me slightly.

Also as a side note, when I go into an instance with 4 pirates then I have noticed that they will all patiently fly about waiting for their turn to die... Why aren't they ganging up on me to save their buddies?

Does anyone agree with me?

NB: I am super enjoying the game. Interdicting and killing pirates is really fun. I'm going to try trading soon when I can buy a ship with decent cargo too, I love the whole planning/wheeling/dealing thing. Big thumbs up to the Devs so far!

/yawn ... I give 0 $&@!'s
1 Mil is pittance, try outfitting a Cobra or buying an Asp with 1Mil and the pitiful payouts on bounties and smuggler missions just to time sink us I to boredom, casual player ..I don't think so, this game is not for casual players.

I believe the ai should be smarter, and fit better with their combat ranking. Also, bounties need to mesh better with ranking. I just got 130k for a harmless anaconda, who did a decent bit of fighting at first, but once I got his shields down, never fired a shot until he died. I mean, with several turreted weapons, he just gave up and flew around. Definitely not what I consider to be a 130k bounty fight.

well. at the moment it feels like AI is set to super-easy mode. I killed hundrets of NPCs and not a single one was challenging! I didnt die once since release version.... something is really off with AI.

My eagle is only worth 240 000 in total and I took down some viper and cobra by myself. Even a few anaconda with some help from federation security. The AI is simply can't fly, I can stay behind them all the time.

The only time I almost died is went I interdicted a dropship and he opened fire right away saying "Fear me!" And indeed, he had way too much firepower for my taste. My shield went down in a few seconds and I jumped asap.

(although a recent patch i think said you don't lose discovery data now if killed... but i wouldn't like to test that).

Ooh, that's not how I read it! Double-check that.

I believe that patch fixed a problem that occurred AFTER you died and lost all your data... in that you could no longer scan anything you'd previously scanned, then supposedly lost. It was in a halfway state... scanned, lost, then not able to be scanned by you again.

I don't think FD has made it so you don't lose it when you die. I think, now, you lose it properly!

Ouch! Then definitely not testing it.

how about all the beta and alpha guys chill and allow those who did not have 3 to 6 months of game play to learn and thx...

I started the thread and i have been playing 5 days.

The thing is closed minded replys like this ruin 50% of the experience. What is wrong with easy systems and hard systems. You'll learn in the easy ones and there will be hard ones for those that like that. With 400 billion systems this shouldn't be hard to achieve.

This game needs to have much more challenging NPCs, but I am very dubious that it will happen. When you consider that FD's answer to "I spent half an hour shooting at an Anaconda in my Sidewinder and the police stole the bounty" was making it easier to claim the bounty rather than replying with "wth were you doing taking on an Anaconda in a Sidewinder?" you start to get a feel for where the game is going.

Right now the only thing between me and an Elite ranking is time: how long do I want to spent picking apart mindless NPCs who present no challenge at all? And that's a shame.

i agree , but we cant win of the casual gamer who wants to fly a anaconda within 2 weeks and none credits sinks , the masses will cry again on this forum and tey will adept the game according those QQ

it is with evry game outthere , dumb it down so that the x box controller hello kitty online girls can handle it too.

The game doesn't need to give players a harder time earning credits, if anything that part should be easier.

I do agree though that it needs more challenging NPCs.

Not sure that needed to make it harder. If game will be harder then only couple of fanatics will play . For most of casual players current level is ok. Want more hardness ? Just reset your save and play only using sidewinder with one pulse laser i think it will be hard enough for you.

I agree. I should not be able to take down elite anaconda with my medicore cobra. I should be scared of such an encounter.

By the way, the assasination mission progression is too steep. There is only ~150k cr elite anaconda missions. I haven't seen another type. More target and reward variety is needed.

Harder?

Trouble with connection - buy new ship
Phone call - buy new ship
Hunger? - buy new ship
anything else - buy new ship

The galaxy is 400 billion systems. Casual gamers can play in the central safe zones. No one is saying remove what we already have just add to it.

Besides how can 400 billion systems be aimed at casual gamers?

Almost any modern game created for casual gamers because 99 % of profit from sales come from casual gamers who pay money for it. Want epic fail for ED then yeah just make it only for fanatics.
You want to tell to 99 % on players where they have to play :) Well done.

I think a few things make the game easy :
Nav beacons -> Bounty hunters ghettos -> easy bounty camping, easy money. Just like roaming for special deals in your usual supermarket.
USS -> the way to tell the game you're bored and would like to have something happen (not taking into account the occasional easy-to-evade interdiction - pretty rare when you don't have a bounty on your head) - You want to be attacked by pirates or to get scanned and fined by authorities for your illegal cargo ? Just drop into an USS ! Otherwise, everything is safe : nothing happens if you don't ask for it. And as if it wasn't easy enough you can find easy money there too.
Getting to your destination -> Dropping out of supercruise so close from stations makes trading a no danger/no cost activity. Making ships dropping farther and triggering events/encounters during this part of the travel could make things a lot more interesting.

Only way I've found to make the game harder is to follow a bunch of strict self-restrictions (wipe save on death, only making business on piracy, no trade except blackmarket, restricting missions for specific faction type, no nav beacon camping, and no USS inspection out of missions goals). Like that, it starts to be challenging : when you have to sell a gun to pay the repair bill, each credit earned is really appreciated.

Now to get a hard NPC match I log on to the training mission and play the training match where the waves of NPCs get stronger at each wave.
Try see if you can last beyond the third of forth enemy.

Wait dont make it harder yet. I am just figuring out how to use my new HOTAS setup and I am still in my Sidewinder. 2 more weeks and I should have a kitted Cobra + some kind of trader in storage. Then you can make it harder :)
