Cockpit view

Possibly the player was using a TrackIR system and had their head maybe tilted downwards a bit (and maybe pulled back?), and more of the cockpit was visible, would be my guess. You could try setting your FOV higher, which will show a bit more.

go to , C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics and Edit Settings.XML you can change the FOV more than ingame there. i got it set to 75, beyond that and the text becomes hard to read.

In the absence of TrackIR or similar, you can bind a button to headlook. I have one of my joystick buttons bound so I can have a quick look around and have my fingers crossed that Santa is kind ;). I'm sure I read somehwere that if you have a Saitek X52 the pilot's hands move on the sticks as yours do... very cool if so.

Actually the pilot's hands mimic our movement regardless of the type of joystick used.

Aha, definitely need trackIR, controls stop working with headlook so I can't see. Perhaps I should open up FOV to have a look.

OK I've played with FOV settings and that doesn't seem to be it. It must be a trackIR thing where he has his head back. Is there anyway to do the "head back thing" without trackIR?

As I have a warthog I use the little mouse button on the throttle to look around - that's fine and let's me look down a little but it doesn't give the same effect as the "head back" thing as in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbaLJTGHkj8

That does not sound right. You can head look anywhere. Your key bindings may not correctly setup for headlook. There are two types of look too. there is the one where it just naps to the panels, or there is a mouse look mode. If that is enables, you can click the mouse button and look anywhere then click again to go back to standard view

Ah, no, I can use headlook, what I meant was flight controls don't change while using headlook, therefore I can't observe the pilot's hand movement as a result of control input with headlook, like you can with TrackIR.
