There's no AA yet. One of many improvements to come.

Michael

Shots look very promising, but did you know you can force most graphics cards to do AA for you even if its not done in game?

BTW Michael, what graphics technologies are we going to see used in game?
Are we for example likely to see use of tessellation, depth of field, tiling (directx 11.2) etc?

Also, I saw this picture & vid released by NASA showing an illustration of the tail produced by our solar system, any plans to put this kinda stuff in the map displays?

We'll reveal more in future newsletters.

I want to say, Since the Kickstarter ended, watching the development of Elite: Dangerous has been a great ride so far (as I recall David did say it would be a great ride).

Have to agree with you. In many respects what we have seen so far has exceeded my expectations and I am impressed with the attention to detail.
Can't wait to get access to alpha :)

That is why I have suspected all along that their engine is a software engine and that they are not taking full advantage of 3D Graphics Cards yet. I could be wrong about this but if its true we are in for a real treat.

omg ... hehe

after the big bang of these shots
there is an inflation of hype as expected.

calm down guys, this is only the ''beginning''.

Personally i feel grateful to the team (and expecially to Michael) for this sweet peek.
But i think is a little bit unexpected and too early for any tech questions about it.

Enjoy and be quiet ppl ;) i am pretty sure, within some months you will be fully satisfied by AA features and DX11 and more.

I need only a promise: this is the first serious peek, i hope there will be more next weeks... it's such a good drug for us !! :D

Micheal mentions 'New Technology Page' in his letter. MMmmmm...... This got me thinking. If you look very closely at those pictures in detail there are a few post-processing techniques missing.

I wonder if Frontier really have got something new here. Maybe a variation of the Point Cloud Data system similar to Unlimited Detail. This is just pure speculation of course :)

Our engine certainly takes advantage of the latest hardware, so don't worry :) We are experimenting with a range of in-engine Anti-aliasing techniques and will enable them when we are happy with the results.

Glad that you all enjoyed the screenshots!

That's fantastic. Glad all that cash I just blew on an upgrade ready to play this won't go to waste. Unfortunately I need to spend a little more upgrading the ventilation now.

Two overclocked XFX 7970s and a i7 4770k on a RoG hero motherboard gets a little hot when running at full speed.:eek:

This game really looks to be coming along in the most stunning way. If it continues, expect FD's reputation to go into orbit too.

If it packs in half the stuff we've talked about on the DDF then we're going to need some new adjectives to describe this.

Elite: Dangerous could well be the game of E3 2014. (They'll have to rename the expo to E4 in homage).

great screen, but please don't use Depth of Field.
I think DOF is not a good option in a space simulator.
To see the stars and the planet out of focus looks terrible.

I imagine in the finished game this will probably be one of many settings you can turn on or off.

No one mentioned the tiny fighter on the 3rd pic? ;)

this looks fantastic, who needs millions of pixel when you got artistic talent and proper graphical resource management.. :D
