On a serious note, the sidewinder handles so well in this game I don't expect docking to be a problem.
If docking was a problem, I'd seriously expect them to be look at the design of space stations
Looking forward to flying in manually though.
I didn't find manual docking much fun when playing the original Elite on the BBC, and couldn't save up for a docking computer fast enough.
Getting the ship into the opening was ok, it was getting my spin to be the same as the space station I found hard. It was very unforgiving if you got it wrong.
As long as you aren't forced to do it, that's ok.

Search didn't give me a good answer so, is that forum only for those who backed the kickstarter at high enough a level (£75+) or would someone buying premium beta or alpha access at this point get access to it as well?

I think you have to ask for access if you bought in after the kickstarter.
I know that's the case for the Alpha forum but wasn't sure about the backers forums since, well, you can never be sure if a given company/project will call anyone getting in after the kickstarter a backer or not. Some do, some don't.
In this case it sounds like the backers forum is indeed only for people with a high enough pledge during the kickstarter.

Pretty sure a pledge of £75 or more during the KS got you access to the Private Backers forum.
Well they hang around there on a Friday and shout at Mr Brookes for the "STARMAP!" for a few hours. Then he feeds them a fish and they (we) tear it apart for a few hours discussing it, when things settle down they inevitably throw what's left to you guys not in the backers forum and then regroup a week later and start calling for the STARMAP!!1 again.
