Eurogamer review up...

Metacritic needs time to "cool down". Right now you have game haters and lovers screwing up the scoring with 0s and 10s. I don't have an issue with people giving whatever score they want, but I just think over time, the opinions will level off. Give it a few months and we'll see a more accurate reflection of the game's user popularity.

I think the current rating of 7.6 on metacritic is pretty well exactly where i would rate it too. so in this case the ratings are pretty ok.

yes but only because there are loyal kickstarters pushing it with 10/10s. without them it prbly. be at 4 or 5 max.

Clearly FD bribed all the reviewers! This is the only possibility!

I've only played this game for 238 hours, and I didn't enjoy a single one of them! :D

Ah, steam reviews....

No sour grapes at all. Just fed up with the misrepresentation of the facts. If you actually read his review, you know (based on your own experience) that he hasn't played the game enough. It's evident in his comments. You also know that his review fails to make the case that the game, currently deserves and 8/10. While it may "feel good" to you to see that score, you know, by reading the article and looking at the facts, he wrote a lazy fluff review and gave it a awesome score. If he had given the game a 3/10 with the same lazy effort, you would be enraged.

ED is not the kind of game you can do a respectable review in a few paragraphs. We all know that. You can write a comprehensive review on trading alone. ED is a different game and requires a reviewer to spend alot of time in the game before they even think of writing a review.

Reviews should give a score, but the details in the review should help everyone understand how the score was derived. This "review" clearly fails to do that.

And this makes you angry because.....?

Professional Review sites today are a sham. Virtually all games today get excellent reviews, written by guys that barely played the game. If you want an honest review, user forums today are the most reliable. Here you get the good and the bad.

Yeah.. and the ugly...

i agree. game is a 8/10. so all giving 10/10 are 2 points away, but the people giving 0/10 are 8 points away. 0/10 for me is a game which is not launching. All those 0/10 metacritic people are just mad.

You know the people that come around here and say "Why can't I auto-fly to my destination!Game is fail and will die in 2 weeks! Delusional fanbopis mumble jumble" and then rant because people tell 'em off and laugh at them?

They LIVE on Metacritic....

You actually made me laugh out loud, as I was thinking exactly the same thing... And lo and behold, and now it's getting good reviews they are blaming the reviewers for being poop. When I'm sure if it had been slated they would all screaming "A-HA! Told you!"... Very loudly.... With megaphones. :D

That's why I say they are trolls, they just want the game to burn and die because they don't like it
Toxic waste that needs disposal

Precisely. He said that because he hasn't played the game enough to know better. Sidewinders are formidable, in the hands of a skilled CMDR. Are those screen caps even his? I doubt it.

Not very good with sarcasm eh?

Agree with the conclusion :

There's a lot of balancing to be done in the long term, then, and the big hurdle for new players will be getting up to speed without losing interest in those stodgy early hours. The mid-point, where everything coalesces, is so liberating, so brilliant in its scope and possibility, that it's hard to be too upset about these wrinkles. For all its frustrations, you'll spend much longer in the sweet spot than you spend getting there. Elite: Dangerous demands much, but repays your devotion many times over.

I think the review is spot on. And their conclusions I completely agree with. Whether or not ED will be a long remembered masterpiece will depend largely on the next few months. If FD manages to fix the issues and add more compelling reasons to play past the mid point, as well as make missions in general more varied and interesting, then this can really become a polished diamond. Right now it's a rough diamond.

I was just thinking the same thing.

No it only has such a low score because of angry guys pushing it with 0/10s. Without them it would be 9 at least! :D

I strongly disagree with the part regarding the "players break immersion". Just go on Sorbago and enter the conflict zones and start to fight with and/or against other CMDRs....or met some random Cmdr in a lonely system and start a conversation about where to find a specific good..etc. Yes, in the starter system obiouvsly is full of inexperienced player but just go a little out to find good (or "evil" :p ) players .

Anyways I agree with the score . 8/10 for newcomer and 10/10 for veterans of Elite/space sims for me.

I gave the game an 86 out of 100 in my SimGamerTV review. (My first crack at a review, got lots of really helpful comments on how to make a better review next time.)

But it was an honest review, and a few people were very critical of my honesty. For my part, I don't mine people being critical of my review or the points that I bring up - I encourage it! Discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of any game is what helps people make informed purchasing decisions! (Just don't try to be critical of me, my honesty, or my other viewers - flame bait is instantly deleted on my channel, but I digress.)

This game has a way of galvanizing opposing views, and heightening passions for gaming - which breeds very strong opinions (game suxxorz -10 of 10 vs this game roxxorz +100 out of 10!!!!!!! exclamation-point exclamation-point!)

If Eurogame says 8/10 on a 1 to 100 scale that's somewhere in the range of 75 to 84 of 100 - which is in line with most other reviews, actually. Now that Eurogamer has chimed in, I wander what the Metascore is now?

This might be the most comprehensive and balanced review I have read so far, I agree with most of it - except for the overall score. In its current state, I would not rate Elite : Dangerous higher than 6 or maybe 7 out of 10.

Mostly because when you have progressed beyond the "ohh and ahh" first impression the game is woefully shallow feature-wise, more or less a repetitive grind for credits and/or reputation if you are interested in progression. And that won't do in the long run.

Don't get me wrong, I am having lots of fun, but I can see myself getting a bit bored soon with the repetitiveness.

Just saying, what a brilliant first paragraph that review has. Many kudos to the guy who wrote it.
