Is the Asp worth it?

Fantastic ship the ASP - I hated initially however after kitting it out it became awesome, I recommend you have at least 5Mc spare to spend on basic upgrades if your buying one and preferably 20Mc to get it well balanced.

And don't forget the awesome cockpit visibility and the sound of those engines, probably the best all rounder ship. Expensive though and base kit the performance is disappointing.

Curious how you got it to 40ly. Currently fitting for exploration and can squeeze 33 out of it.

I reckon i could get more, but doesn't that mean configuring a paper Asp with crappy E modules ?

The best FSD, and good Power Distributor, everything else D rank (the lightest of them all) - nothing in hardpoints...

If you like the Cobra, wait until you can spend over 20 million to get all As and top-drawer weapons on an Asp. If you do not already use them, you will want to fit a fuel scoop (2A is fine, only loses you 4 cargo) and (for combat) a shield cell bank.

The Asp is probably my favorite ship. I traded mine in for an Imperial Clipper which I love and am keeping, but will likely get another Asp when I have enough spare cash for a top-notch one.

As for OP, i find it very capable in combat, the load out variation is very good.

Well, I rounded it up. :D I have about 37, but I am confident it could be more. And you're kind of right. From my experience, C modules are the best power/weight ratio. Also I usually have one class less than maximum when I go for the weight. :)

How does the ASP compare to a Lakon 6 for short range point to point no frills trading?

And does require a large docking pad or can it land on platforms and stations without issues?

As regards landing pads on outposts you'll be fine.

Comparing to a lakon 6 for trading - you'll be better able to handle piracy, however repair costs are substantially larger so you need to be well in profit each run.

Thanks. How do there max cargo capacitys compare? I'm about to start grinding for some cash between two stations so just need max cargo for short hops. So which one can carry the most cargo?

Big question at all you rich pilots with an Imperial Clipper and/or a 20 Millionen ASP. I guess you have not wiped yourself on release, right? Can't imagine that you can get that rich in just about a few days even from heavy grinding...
I suppose it could be possible. I played through Gamma, got about 10 million from cheesy means, but most of my money is from complex webs of buy&bring missions with the odd lucrative courier/haulier mission. Made a tidy sum on bounties/assassinations too.

Hi, Picommander!
I can't find any good in losing the progress done in Gamma by cleaning my save.
I'm not interested in comparing myself to others, just play and get the ships and stuff I want.
If I were in university/high-school with plenty of time (that should have been invested studying as opposite I done in my time there) I suppose I can now afford a kitted ASP by this time after release. But now I have very little free time so its pointless to lose the stuff hard earned....

104 vs 120 cargo space. Unless the 6 can now take a class 2 shield?

Both use medium docking pads.

The Lakon 6 has a weak hull while the Asp is much tougher. But perhaps more importantly; the Lakon 6 overheats if you look at it hard enough while the Asp handles heat extremely well.

The only problem is I've never, ever met an Asp I couldn't stay underneath to kill. They're considered easy pickings cos even in my Cobra I can stay out of their firing arc regardless of AI skill.

I keep hearing this argument against the Asp, but it makes little sense to me. Surely you don't have trouble vs Elite Cobras either, and yet you can pilot that ship like a beast! The only difference is that the Cobra costs quite a bit less to max out in upgrades, but structurally Asp would be the superior ship with comparable pilots.

Stock Asp is not something to take out right away, I bought mine with barely any money left and that was a bit of a mistake. I kitted it for mostly trade until I made some more cash and then 10mil later turned it into a bounty hunting death machine of death with a side of death.
Fixed beams on the center two class 1 slots, class 2 multi-cannons and class 1 multi cannons on the wider placed slots. Its like a quad-cannon of bullets, the class 1's don't cost that much in ammo addd on top of the class 2's. Ive never felt bad about my ammo usage.
Fixed beams do good shield breaking and also good as emergency fixed weapon if chaff is used.

Absolutely love the Asp! - with upgrades it's excellent...

I still use a kitted out Viper for bounty hunting though - Far cheaper to replace or repair if you bite off more than you can chew :D
