Best Cobra Weapon Combo

I tested many weapons on a Cobra in Beta 2/3. Especially in the conflict zones, all those "kill 9 ships" missions we used to have, combined with the "kill civilians" missions, meant spending a long time fighting between reloads.

2 Medium Gimbaled Pulse Lasers
2 Small Gimbaled Multicannons

My reasoning is that on those long missions, I'd sometimes run out of ammo, so I found having the 2 heavy pulse lasers better since they are still very effective when my guns run dry. If you rely on the heavy multis, and run out of ammo, you're stuck with wimpy class 1 lasers which are just not enough.

Going all gimblaled 1 beam c2 2 multi cannon c1 & c2 and a cannon c1 doing ok got no problem against anything except anaconda win 70% of the time and python about 30 - 40% of the time

2x Gimballed burst lasers (small) 2x multi cannons (med)

Same here (Although I don't play the Cobra anymore). Gimballed burst lasers on the outside (Gimballed is almost a must-have on the Cobra for the external Hardpoints, otherwise you can't shoot with both at the same time), Multi-canons on the inside (Not gimballed; both can shoot at the same time with no issue).

The opposite (Gimballed MC + Fixed burst lasers) is way too expensive, because Gimballed can shoot almost non-stop: you will deplete your MC ammos in no time. I tried that at the beginning, depleted my ammos in 15 minutes instead of 45. Definitely not good.

IMO, the Burst Laser + MC is usually a good choice (For any ship). They are complementary, and don't have any specific weak point: Ammos are not too expensive, you have a lot of them. You can shoot the MC when overheating, and shoot the laser when reloading. You can use the laser against shields, and MC against hull. So, perfect for generic fights. You only lack a little bit of firepower against big targets (But against most NPCs it's sufficient; just be really careful and patient around Anacondas... :) (or avoid them completely) )

Me too, I fell in love with my "DakaDaka" Cobra since day one

Get hold of a copy of the Battle of Britain march, and 633 Squadron theme on as MP3
Install Voice Attack
Set up a command to play said mp3s when you say "Battle Stations"
Get interdicted
Call out "Battle Stations"
Let the blighter have all 4 barrels
Head home to Lave for some tea
Admire the moustache you've just grown

2 fixed medium beam lasers and two small gimballed cannons - but I'm currently just testing around and I strongly dislike gimballed weapons, but the hardpoint placement and lack of a convergence slider make them mandatory...

Does anyone know how much small missiles cost now?

I also use 2 fixed medium beam lasers and two small gimballed cannons like some of you mentioned. I get the shields down with the lasers and then shower with cannons at closer range. I wouldn't rely on the gimbals with tracking too much in case someone throws a chaff or silent running and renders them useless.

As an explorer concerned with keeping weight down and not requiring ammunition I use two fixed class 2 beams. Works for me.

I just ran into an NPC Cobra, Deadly, and it took my (A4, two pips in) shields down in a single fast pass, never seen an NPC Cobra do so much damage so quickly. I think it was using two fixed class 2 beams and two turret class 1 beams. Either that or there's some bug with NPC firing angles 'cause it was hitting me from about 135 degrees at least.

Currently 2 x medium gimballed beams and 2 x small gimbaled cannons. With careful power management the beams are sufficient for anything up to an Asp and costs nothing in terms of ammo which is useful for me as I'll spend a long time between stations.

Quad Multicannons gimballed for me. The C1 ones are overcharged.

usually works, but it can be really painful taking down the shields on elite ranked NPCs (unless it is one of the smaller ships) but so far so good.

Where did you find those overcharged cannon?

Sounds like he had turreted beams. Since release, I've seen a few Cobras, Vipers, and Eagles actually use turrets to good effect. I guess not all NPC ships have default loadouts now. :)

Speaking of the release version, has anybody revised their Cobra loadouts? I find myself depending on gimballed weapons just because my aim is lousy -- the days of twitch are far behind me :\
Also, I've given up trying to locate Over-Charged or Low-Heat weapon variants. They are either super rare or do not exist.

I've also formed the opinion that gimballed Burst Lasers are the best "bang for the credits". 8800cr and you get good all-around damage vs shields or hull. Thirsty on power, but even a Type C power distributor makes that a lot less of a problem.

I use 2 gimballed multi canons on top, and 2 gimballed beams on the bottom.

I tried fixed beams on the bottom which are OK at anything further away than 600+ metres but if its nearer I could only hit the target with a single laser...had this issue with an Asp and anything smaller.

I tend to keep pretty close to my targets, if you hang further back fixed beams are best and more powerful. Gimballed multi canons are great though when you need to tear down the last 20% of hull, or even for targeting the power plant on an Anaconda.

I went with 1 automatic pulse laser and 1 multi cannon for medium HP, and seeker missile pods for the small HP. Middle and pulse on same trigger. Press once to start automatic pulse, press again when missiles lock onto target
