When we get to walk around planets and stations...

the game will run out of funding prior to any expansions being rolled out. if by some miracle it did happen i would likely walk around on a planet that looks the same as the last 100 i landed on and be just as bored doing nothing on the ground as i am doing a bunch of nothing out in space.

I'm pretty sure that with that attitude Frontier could provide you the moon on a stick and you still wouldn't be happy. Maybe it's just this games not for you?

"When we get to walk around planets and stations..."

Hopefully not until after we get the full background simulation, persistent NPC, decent multiplayer/coop/chat and bunch of other much more important stuff.

I think the most important part is the planetside stuff, being able to get out of my ship. I am a person, I am not a space ship. It's a space game, but in any good space epic, you get out and explore exotic planets, get in fights on foot, interact with other people!

Not everyone thinks that, of course, but that's definitely what's most important to me. I'm so excited for those updates.

I'm looking forward to being able to get out of the cockpit of my ship and walk around it. This would certainly help to make the ship seem far more real and tangible, as well as making the bigger ships more desirable to own. I suspect they'll implement this first, as you'd need the first person mechanics working well before doing anything else with it.

Really looking forward to seeing the views out an orbis station from the agricultural ring. Something like this perhaps?

Well I don't have any rum but how about this delicious Lavian Brandy? For you sir, only 20,000 credits per ton!

Evochron series had planetary exploring for some time now, but the procedural generation proved to be very underwhelming. I fear it will be the same in Elite.

What happened when Eve gave people that ability? Did it add to the game? Genuine question as I left around the time they were adding that type of content in.

Flying through space from A to B is the bit they (mostly) cut out of most films. Why? because generally it's the samey, boring bit. Planets and moons are where it's at. Me I fully intend to do many extended camping and hiking (and vehicle-ised) trips on alien worlds.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. I think the easiest thing to implement will be getting close to and landing on uninhabited planets with no atmosphere. Do you really think they have all this procedural generation working to produce the scapes we see from a distance and that THEY aren't already going there to see what it looks like close up??!!
The challenge for them is the inhabited planets and the ones with atmospheres. I really hope they do a phased approach - Lifeless, airless planets and moons (with bases) - Then atmospheres (with more bases) - Then the planets with Flora and eventually Fauna and cities etc.

My answer is in this song.

Because it's cool.

Best song ever made...ever! IMHO. I must have heard it a million times by now and I'm still loving it.

EDIT: Oh, btw, the first thing I'll do when we get to leave the Commanders chair, will probably be an E.V.A. close to an earth like planet. Just for the views and the screenshots. But first, they should give us some sort of character creation like EVE has. It's the coolest feature of EVE no doubt.

I'm with Iardarz on this one. I Like the idea of having to negotiate a re-entry without burning up and landing at a space port to peruse the various bulletin boards, commodities markets and such, but that's as far as it goes for ME. The thought of wandering around in the guise of a computer generated avatar, and bumping in to other computer generated avatars doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

Even though i get free expansions as a KS backer, a 'walking about' expansion is one expansion I won't be installing.

I want to be a Han Solo, not a Dr Livingstone.

I'm opposite.

One aspect I liked with wing commander was in between missions you don't just have a ui or load screen, you got to chat with the other pilots and get the mission briefing. This added a huge element of immersion and background to the game.

Literally living in a cockpit for 100% of the time doesn't deliver that.

I'm not so bothered about walking on planets - certainly less having some kind of fps experience; I'll be more than happy to be able to fly around and sight see and fight and trade on planets in my ship - but being able to use stations and my ship interior, both of which have been crafted to allow this, is going to add a lot to the game.

I'm not holding out a lot of hope for out-of-ship gameplay in the future. Just being able to visit starports on the surface will be enough for me.

Procedurally generating a whole galaxy at the resolution of an FPS without being totally bland or samey? I'd love to see it (and the developers of No Mans Sky think it's possible) but I won't be holding my breath.

I'll be headed straight to the waffle bar first.

Then, it's off to the lost and found to claim all the socks.

i thought even backers had to buy the season pass

What would be the point of walking around on a planet? There is no game mechanism that would benefit from it

you really having that much trouble figuring out how it could possibly benefit the gameplay experience? i mean imagine being able to vist one of the capital cities. or a village. you know....space gta...
i mean unless youre one of those people that just like driving games and not getting out of the car

actually its not going to be 100% procedural generated. just the parts that dont need humans to do but takes alot of time. thsi saves money for the much more cooler stuff.
and procedural generation is getting very advanced in the late years.

actually you should look up "big hero 6" and its devolpment that who san fran town was procedural generated and then a team went through it and put some features in it.
what i cant wait to see is how they combine procedural generation and hand made aspects of the planets.

Find a toilet, i'm busting. For the last ages I have had to resort to a bottle and an only just in reach air lock to blast its contents into space. Also get those sores on my butt looked at, I've been sitting in this chair for far to long now.

You should buy the 'commode' module then ... far easier ... .
