Cannabis to be a separate entity from Botanical Drugs b/c tobacco is already separate

Ok here's a scenerio for you:

FD decide to take up the suggestion to add the commodity "cannabis".

Along comes some sensational conservative news site notices this and writes an article: "Weed trading simulator" and the article somehow gains traction.

A potential buyer who has a negative attuide towards cannabis, views this article and decides (rather unfortunately) not to purchase the game because of the *perceived* negatively surrounding this aspect of the game.

This is all of course speculative, and please treat it as such.

People are probably going reply "I wouldn't want these narrow minded people in the community" true I would feel a similar point of view in this respect.

But that doesn't change the fact that's a potential sale lost, which is obviously not the best tactic for a company hoping to keep a broad buyerbase.

As ridiculous as this all sounds, it's not something that can be ruled out. I think sensationalist websites would have a much harder job writing the same article about alochol or tobacco.

Facepalm ;)
There are lot of triple A games, and also lot of indie games, where drugs, commerce, use, and such, are essential parts of the game. And also, considering ED, the slave thing should be something wrong for you. So your point it's not a point.
as always, everybody should be smart enough to recognize that it's a videogame.

@Resentina

Are you saying that there is 0% chance there would be no repercussions for FD?, if you understand how the internet works, you could see that certain groups of sensationalist news
blogger/writers could argue black was white and their readers would argee.

The majority of these "triple A" games are marketed at 16-18+ so they expect to get backlash from people before they even lauch their game from parents that shouldn't buy their children age inappropriate game's, ED is 7+.

The slavery thing, is a genuine game narrative and its not supported by 2 of the major factions of the game.

Going back to my previous post, do I get points for being psychic?, no we live in a world where people unfortunately take games seriously, as pathetic as that is :(

Your fear is not based on reality

I think saying people would start using drugs because there would be a mild drug ingame is insane because whats gonna happen to the kid at the moment;

a) The kid finds "Tobacco" ingame and gets some in real life, smokes half of his life, dies to lung cancer.

So no, having Cannabis as a tradable entity ingame would not cause any bad press, or at least worse than it could be now.

But you gave me an idea, I should bring this tobacco thing forward for media, that this game is a massive tobacco promotion. Maybe that would get this company at least remove the Tobacco item, if they can not add the Cannabis, which I highly doubt; I am 100% certain that many of the developers enjoy a bit of the product in question every now and then.

Btw, I am so new to the forums that I have to ask; Do the devs read these threads? Do they even read these forums? Or have they just kept away from my topic because of the political hot potato thing, and they're afraid they'll lose the election to the house of lords?:D

PS: Read the -rare commodities thread- and thought that an option is to add this as a rare commodity to one station, this way all the kids in the world would not become bob marley.

Where did I say this would cause people to use the drug in real life? please quote me on that?

The game is getting bad press? news to me.

Tobbaco is unfortunately a legal drug, weed still(amazingly) an illegal drug in many countries.

Not sure why your trying to label myself as anti-cannabis, this couldn't be further from the truth. I am personally friends with a pro-cannabis politician "Luke Ming Flanagan"(go ahead and google him :p) and my extended family and the Flanagan family are firm friends as we are both involved in local politics.

Yes FD do read their own forum's, their community feedback is mainly stellar.

I think you are taking it too far jvainio. My WHOLE family smoke Tobacco but me. My dad died of Lung Cancer. Lost his voice box 14 years ago died last year. I was a child once watching my Parents smoke. I tried it did not care for it. So I never started it. At the time. They had Tobacco Ads and such. You know the cowboy in a hat with a cigarette looking so Cool.

Maybe what you should do is pretend tobacco is Cannabis.

I understood your point wrong here:
To our surprise, within a day of adding this feature we had a backlog of angry parent's complaining about how "we had lured their children into a false sense of security on a server they believed *family friendly*" or "I caught my 10 year old was crafting a spliff" needless to say our hand was forced to remove this feature by the end of the week.

But I was apparently right in my last "joke" line in the OP - this is all about politics, now I get it.

If you're making comments like that, you too should have smoked the tobacco your other family did. Remember that not every kid is not a superman like you.

As I said earlier, it's fine to discuss adding or deleting a commodity type, but this is now a political discussion, so I'm going to close it.

It's Christmas. I suggest we are all jolly nice to each other, or even spend some time with those we love in the real world.
