How are we supposed to please the naysayers?

Oh my God that's hilarious!!

I would be so livid if that were to happen to me. But then again I'm broke enough as it is. Yet I find it amazing how you keep your cool in that situation.

At least i still had my ship and 1m cr. left to get it back with about 12 runs for maybe 90 minutes.
But yeah, pi-ssd me off at first. But then my plan to kill David Braben was set back and i went on trading. ;)
Not the first time such happened to me. In Beta 1 this happened much often then now.
There where no creditors, and a mild crash to a station was a 99% death sentence. Much better now.

just for forgetting to request docking permission

I like to imagine it was a minor problem that became a major bottleneck in docking procedure efficiency over time, so they adopted a zero tolerance policy with regards to any irregularity in docking procedures. Though you can still bounce around and collide with other ships without any repercussions (aside from damage of course).

Too busy playing and enjoying the game to worry about the whining minority on here.

and as for the Refund Scammers......... don't get me started :)

Its that infinity, to Roam whereever I want to. No predefined way to play this game.

The feeling of beeing a 14 year old boy again. Priceless!

FA Off.

I'm *so* happy the Frontier added FA Off, retained it throughout, and even spent time and effort finessing it and asking for flight-model feedback about it when it was late in the day.

It's an incredibly rewarding mode of flight for me, for stuff like docking, sightseeing, etc. Having a heavy-feeling ship under control, when every twitch, breath and reaction needs to be controlled to stay on course? Brilliant.

On the flipside, when it comes to combat, I'm very grateful Frontier went with the aircraft-style of control, FA On mode. I've tried FA Off combat for the past week, religiously avoiding switching assist on, and my personal impression is that FA On combat is ten times as fun and engaging as FA Off combat. There's just something really right-feeling about it.

So... the flight system is my pick for transcendent, wonderful stuff that I'm particularly grateful to have in the game.

Yepp its cool, and the Freedom to use it whenever I want to. Personally I use it to gain advantage over the opponnent in a turnfight.

Fanboi here. ;)

I love everything about the game and i know its going to keep me playing for years to come. Haven't been many games like that, i can rattle off the list:

Chaos: Battle of the Wizards (still play it from time to time on a speccy emulator)
Frontier: First Encounters
Neverwinter Nights 2
Medieval Total War (1 and 2)
Star Trek: Armada 2 (especially with FleetOps conversion)

That's more or less it for games that i've kept playing over and over. Everything else tends to get stale sooner or later.

And I just can't wait to see what new features/expansions will come in the future.

when the critical mass of say nay naysayers is reached game over it means for the game

You mean when there is a critical mass of naysayers the game will fail?

Hmm... that's a naysayer attitude. :D

I think the future for FD/ED is pretty much good as long as they can keep delivering fixes and new features, which so far they have been pretty good at doing. I see no reason to believe this will change.

I see your valid point, but the objective of the post was to give thanks for a feature in Elite. The last thing I want right now is to start a flame war and have my thread closed. So please for the sake of the children, stick to the topic. That's all I ask.

I know man, and I applaud you for trying to celebrate the positive side of things with fellow players. If it at all seems like I'm trying to take away from that, I apologize (and have some +rep from me for your efforts).

I'm only pointing out that despite your best intentions (especially with the topic title being what it is), it's very possible this thread will go the way of all the others, and if it does, try not to worry about it too much, for all my aforementioned reasons.

Merry Christmas btw

First of all thanks for the OP to start a more positive spin on things. :)

But do you really think there are so many real naysayers? I agree somer comments sound pretty harsh as if ED were just a piece of crap (which it isn't of course) but in my belief (and I really hope I'm not wrong here) most people just had high expectations and now quickly found out that those were not met. So they try to voice their opinions and sometimes frustrations here, because that's the only place there is. It also seems to me that certain problems are mentioned very often and since the Devs always insist, that ED is supposed to be and remain a work in progress, now there are expectations that thos problems are being addressed.

In my experience over the last ten years what most often killed a game was lack of response and lack of communication from the Devs. Many times people were angry for being handed a second rate game that felt like a beta test. After a lot of constructive critizism and waiting and then moaning the developers did try to appease the mob with stuff like "we are analyzing and adressing the problems" and the only real response from them was to throw in some minor updates which didn't address the problems but only served to throw in some more sensless content they charged extra for. Prime example was Test Drive Unlimited 2. Possibly could have been a brilliant game. But Atari first rushed the game to the market then pulled the resources from the devs who tried but couldn't do anything anymore and then Atari pulled the plug on the rest and the devs went bust.
This should not be happening here, since the whole concept of crowd funding already changes the whole financial aspect of the project.

So lets give everyone time to cool down. After all it's Christmas and next week there's New Year's Eve. Since many people aren't working much this time of year it is unrealistic to expect any quick changes to come along.
