Not sure what to do anymore - Grinding vs Fun?

So the only this i havent done much in ED is exploration and mining, and now im not sure what to do i recently decided to become a space trucker after a short carearr as a bounty hunter, smuggler as well as piracy and mission running, i make much more creds running needs between systems in the last 2 days i made 2.5 mill creds but by no means was fun, "I Want a python" and trading seems my only way to get to that "the fastest" however the grind is killing me i enjoyed bounty hunting and piracy and smuggling but loseing my ship and all my bounties and or creds after death has made me realize that trading is the only way to go for creds without dieing and loseing everything. you just dont lose your ship after death all your bounties and all yoru ammased weath as well wich means you can never die if you want to progress and keep your credits, whats going to happen when someone has grinded the game for a month got enough creds to by said python the dies on the may to but it? all that progress gone "Poof" back to square one.

Ne opinions on this? ideas? anything?

I was thinking the same thing maybe have somthing similar to eve where your clone is flying the ship not yourself or somthing kinda makes me wonder tho ppl who ammase great weath can never ever die? if they do their back to Sydie and $1000 creds- 100 mill loss "lets say" that person "i know if it was me" i would not play this game ever again.

I did a bit of trading a couple of days ago. Enough to get an Asp, but when I got it, I realised just how much it's going to cost to equip it to be anything like a match for my cobra in anything but cargo capacity. So I spent a few more hours trading with the Asp and then mothballed it and bought a fully geared up Viper. I'm now just enjoying fighting in conflict zones where there's always plenty to do even though the money isn't great, not even as good as bounty hunting but doesn't involve lot's of hanging around. I've resigned myself to not worry too much about cash as the big ships probably aren't that great anyway. Hopefully more content will come along to make combat oriented playing more viable.

No, no it doesn't. This game needs risk not more hand holding!

I agree with this, But if you died and you lost 100 mill creds would you still play this game from the begining again to make it all up and then lose it again? lets say you have a python fully deced out or an anaconda and you die you have no creds to cover insurance and insure the game gives you does not cover it and you start back again with a sidwinder? are you still going to play to do it all over again? then die again and rinse and repeat? fundemental game mechanics does not equal Hand Holding.

If this is the way then i will just go back to pvp and hunt expencive ships ppl bougt and ammased great wealth and kill them for the joy of knowing they have to start all over again lol

I agree. The only way to consistently increase your cash flow is trading and I think that's because it's the only profession with any kind of progression. Get bigger ships make more profit. This isnt true of any other career, except maybe piracy. It doesn't matter what ship you fly bounty type hunting g earns about 100 - 300 k per hour; exploration is even worse, no matter what ship you are in you make about 20-60 k per hour. I hope FD fixes this, and does so without further nerfing but by boosting the progression and earning potential of other career choices

That's not true at all, you KEEP you're amassed wealth on death, it's safe!

As usual people (2nd post) are DEMANDING change without understanding. =/

If you death, you loose all work, not only credit and this is bad to this game.

Sorry team DEV, this need change!

No you don't... That only happens if you die without enough credits to pay for your insurance cost. Insurance cost is displayed on the right hand panel.

OP: I'm having an alright time learning my way around known space by trading rares. You only get a few items of each commodity, but you get paid for each item based on how far you carried it. 160-200 ly seems to be the best balance.

This means I'm regularly making 160ly trips across the galaxy, eventually turning in my hold of 32-38 cargo for 600-900k+. I recently bought an Asp with the profits and now I'm upgrading it for exploration.

I don't mind rare trading post patch, now it makes you work for it, and I really feel like I'm just roaming the galaxy looking for the next big score.

Also... If hyper spend jumps have lost the gut wrenching feeling for you... Wait until you jump in nearly between two contact binary stars with nearly a million credits worth of goods in your hull. That

Try "exploring" in settled space? Look at Galactic map - Jump to an "unexplored" yet inhabited system - fire off the advanced discovery scanner - repeat. Data on such systems sells for 2k - 20k, average around 5 or 6k. Not too shabby and not a grind.

observation: in real life, if u detah, you not reborn. We talk about GAMES in here, about playful not about 'simulation real life'.

Lose work, hour of this work.

The game is over?

The title is allegorical, of course. I am fan of ED, but something is needed to be said.

To those who talk about 'real simulation', in real life if you die, you do not back from the dead. So let's take a little space to 'playful'.

Problem of losing credits when we are dead is not the disappointment of losing, only credit, but losing a lot of playing time - lose 'work' and this is quite frustrating and discouraging.

I hope the frontier review it for the good of the game itself that recently launched, begins to suffer severe criticism of gameplay, but not without reason - there are several to criticism and all made by people who claim always: we like the game, want to go like him, but ...

(google translate) :/

I got tired if trading and exploring so I kitted out my feagle to do bounty hunting.

I'm having a blast, but will do more tradeing again shortly. Got to keep changing and have a good time.

Yeah, me too. I parked the Lakon and bought a Viper and went looking for trouble. Its good to mix it up a bit.

Not being a new comer to any form of PC gaming I usually do my run throughs in Ironman mode, including the good RPGs, strategy games and what not - Ironman mode you only work with one save at most ( if the game crashes for example ) but you keep on playing no matter if you lost your favourite companion etc. On top of that all air combat simulation with 1-life events ( oh yes, 1 life, you mess up you are out for the evening, so keep close to your buddies )

The new wave of "ironman" multi player sandbox games is a fresh breeze in all the "rush to the loot" silliness of the MMO market. Perma Death ( and similar effects ) like we have here, like we have in DayZ, and other games out there is a refreshing way to NOT REWARD failure.

It is a game, granted. But WHY should any game reward failure ? Simply the game won't do anything and you have to rebuy your ship. You don't get penalized at all, you simply buy back your stuff.
Penalizing would be to be RESET and while I am an ironman mode advocate I would not suggest this.

Success = rewards
Failure = back to the drawing board.

Elite Dangerous seems fine to me.

I am by All means not complaining or anything to the sort, and yes if you die in real life you dont come back from it so might as well say hey get rid of the insurance part as well and MAKE everyone start back a 0% with the sidy that would be more realistic if thats how you want the game to be. dont get me wrong i love the game and will continue to play it however i willbe playing alot differently than i normally would play game is the current mechanics stay the same upon death. my pinot was Ginding for the eventuall fun that "I" like to have dosnt seem worth it. i have about 5 mill in assets ATM but if i die thats worth nothing so why do the grind? should i just not work towards the current goals in the game that i have? or should i not bother cause death = reset?

no you don't.
you don't lose your ranks, you don't lose your reputation, you don't lose your personal experience and hopefully you don't lose the lesson learnt 'don't fly what you can't afford to lose'
if you can't deal with this kind of game go find another and stop trying to dumb it down for the rest of us who are happy with it.
YOU made a bad purchasing decision I didn't, so why should I be the one that has to suffer playing what would end up being called "elite:wrapped in cotton wool"?
