Not sure what to do anymore - Grinding vs Fun?

IF YOU HAVE 10 MILL IN THE BANK AND YOU DIE IT GOES AWAY "POOF" GONE, and you only have the 200k for insurance thay they give you.... did you realize this yet Moriarte? so if you have a ship that costs 300K in isurance to get back you will not be able to do it. cause you want have your 10 mill you saved.

This statement is simply NOT TRUE! When you die in Elite, you DO NOT lose the contents of your credit account, you just lose the ship you're in (if you cannot afford the buy back) and the contents of your cargo hold. If you have every credit you own in your cargo hold, then yes, you will lose that when you die but your bank balance IS NOT LOST!

I agree with this, But if you died and you lost 100 mill creds would you still play this game from the begining again to make it all up and then lose it again?

I don't know about losing 100m, but I did lose 44m 11 days ago. I'm still here and playing

I lost my asp to an NPC ramming me. I had insufficient cash on hand for the rebuy cost, so had to start over with just the contents of my bank account (a little under 2m credits) and a sidewinder.

Funny cause everytime i die i get 1000 credits in my bank account, and my ship gets covered by the insurance. So when i die i start from scratch, last time i died i lost 4 mill credits and started with 1000 credits. and my credits were not in my ship i.e. bounties and such when i docked i had 4 mill to play with all gone when i died, and it happens everytime i die.

what you dont relize is yes you do lose all your credits, if you die and have xxxxx amount of money when you die you start out with 1000 credits again,

I'm not trying to be rude at all, I'm only trying to be helpful, so please don't tale offense at my next sentence. You are wrong. I've noticed that English may not be your first language, and I understand that it is a difficult language to learn as an adult. Perhaps you've misread the options available to you? I've died many times and insurance always works for me. Please feel free to send me a PM or add me in game. I am very willing to help, I just don't want to continue to derail this thread.

Please don't take my assessment about English being a second language as an insult, you do very well.

Sounds like each time you die you are resetting your save instead of just buying back your ship with the options presented. I have died lots of times playing Elite so far and yes, you lose your current exploration/bounty/mission data when you die because those vouchers are part of your ship's computer until you claim them at a station, but your main credit balance is completely separate from this and the buy back price for your destroyed ship with all it's modules is a fraction of the original cost of what you had.

When you die do you have every credit you own tied up in the cargo of the ship you've just lost?

I think there is possibly a misunderstanding of game mechanics here. i am not at home so someone please screenshot the ins screen and post it showing the correct option for chov to use so he no longer loses his credits. If what he is doing is what I think he is doing then I can certainly understand his frustration, but it is not the game it is not understanding the options.

I always accept the option for ship replacment will the moduals that were fitted and that is what it usually gives me, accept my bank account is wiped everytime

I suggest the OP downloads and reads the game manual.

Check out page 103 for an explanation of insurance. If you do not have any credits other than your ship and cargo assets when you die and can't afford the insurance, you will be declared bankrupt and your character will get reset.

Remember the cardinal rule: never fly more in assets that you can afford the insurance on and ALWAYS keep a healthy credit buffer in the bank!

How about you upload a video of this happening to You Tube then we can see where you're going wrong and can help?

If you're doing everything right, it is possible you're seeing a bug that will need ticketing...

as i am at work unable to that but i will def check out this situation better when i get home i will buy a seperate ship to die in and record it. with any luck i will be able to keep my millons and hauler ship. but no luck when dieing so far, and i thought you have to click reset save to do this in opening screen only if you want to reset your game.

It sounds like either you understand the mechanics and there's a huge bug that's been missed or there's a translation/communication issue happening here. If you post a video as discussed showing your bank balance before you die and then the insurance screen, buy-back process, and your balance being reset after death, I'm sure we can help you get to the bottom of it. :)

Yes, comrade Cheknov, that got to be a bug, or you have a magical creature living in your closet, resetting save files, while you're asleep. Seriously though - you picked a "free sidewinder and 1000 creds" instead of "old loadout" and thus ordered the game to relieve you of all your credits. That's what happened :D I died 4 times and my cash got saved.

This is not the case the only thing you dont lose is rep with systems, everything else "GONE" aside fom what you insurance will cover so if you have millions in the bank you lose it all

Your analogy is invalid seeing as those who are affected clearly don't have their "millions in the bank". They have them invested in a ship and it's loadout and maybe even the cargo that they're moving from location A to location B.

The replacement cost of your ship isn't hidden, it's immediately apparent what the cost is when checking the right panel. If people choose to ignore the rebuy cost then they are taking a gamble and only have themselves to blame if they get wiped out. It's not the game's fault that you spent all your liquid assets leaving yourself in a vulnerable position.

People need to take some responsibility for their actions and not blame the game design for their inability to keep sufficient funds on hand to at the very least cover their insurance costs.
