Just lost my newly bought ASP to 400Cr bounty due to accidently hitting SystemSec

Players shouldn't be free targets under a few ks of bounty on them

And it's exploitable. Atm you can fly in front of a player chasing a npc, get hit by him, he goes wanted, you can attack him then.

OP is right.
Also, why do some of you give him a hard time?

Because he brought it on himself. Then complained about it.

Noone is ace enought to not hit a sec officer that fly in between you and your target from behind you.
even if I am fast to notice and stops fire, some stray multi cannon bullet hits them.

That's what your radar is for. So you can see ships getting close. You have to watch that as much as your windscreen. This is Elite : Dangerous, not My Little Pony in space.

I'm no expert but I haven't hit a copper since Elite II. (And I got well stomped for that one).

It's Christmas, can I have my ship back please :(

Shooting the Security was my fault, no doubt. But I honestly didn't know that there doesn't seem to be any threshold to when the station will just simply blow you up.

400 credits? Really? :/

At least your crime was something I can see being punishable, assaulting an officer. Some people are getting their ships destroyed for bumping into a station or something silly lol

One thing I've learned though, never clean out your credits.. always have a good amount in reserve for the replacement cost or upgrade costs. Don't buy a new ship until you can afford it.

I had a dab hand at bounty hunting yesterday in my new asp after 1/2 ass kitting it out. in 3 outting i had a fine of 200 and 400 cr both cos i ended up shooting at non enforcement ships, but both time i went to a station and use my docking computer to grab more beers and once i heard it saying you are being scanned. None of which cause my ship to explode in the mass fireball to station lasers. So is it to do with shooting police than non cop NPCs? Anyways Even tho i had enough money to pay for the insurance if i did blow up thats still 470k cr down the pan.

My 3rd outting i was very careful to not shoot any NPC made a whopping 90k in bounty only to have the flipping cops shoot me killing my shields to 25% and the dam eagle i was fighting crashed into me head on taking my hull to 44% and a whooping 150k cr repair bill...

I know this wont fix your lost but if you do stick around just remember the broken mechanics and starting again isn't a bad thing as you'll learn from your last game.

Another option for change would be to say heres your insurance cost oh your cant afford the insurance, then you have an option to tick off items from your insurance list so you get at least 1/2 the ship you just got blown up in.

How does this relate to trading being the single most profitable and least risky way of making money in this game, then? A game where people fly without weapons and shields to load more cargo to truck from A to B should neither be called "Elite" nor "Dangerous", honestly.

Well, shooting at a Wanted Cobra with my just bought ASP, hit one of the Security ships by accident. I noticed the 400Cr bounty on me and thought "Well, I gonna pay that when I dock. No problem."

Then I arrived at the station, request docking, docking granted, I approach the letterbox and get scanned. Suddenly the station opens fire on me and blows me to bits in 3 seconds, no chance to react to it.

Now I am short 40k Cr to rebuy my ASP and actually close to purging Elite from my HDD.

Is this really intended? For lousy 400 credits bounty cuz I hit one Security ship for a split second with my Lasers? This sucks QQ

Wait.......... You tried to dock at a station of a faction that had a bounty placed on you?

Any player with a bounty should be "free targets" Just like NPC's. This is the way it is for everyone. Players should not get special treatment, this is unrealistic and destroys immersion.

In my opinion the bounty should be much higher, 5,000 at least, considering how easy it is to earn a couple hundred. Literally anything you do to earn credits in this game more than covers the current bounty. 200-400 is unrealistically small.

And it is not exploitable, a player shooting another player flying in front of him is not using his radar properly to see that hollow square moving around him and heading to his front. If he hits the player flying in front of him it is his own fault.

All of these friendly fire problems can be solved by not shooting things that fly in front of you. Its really not that hard. The problem is not the bounty people get, the problem is people refusing to take responsibility for their actions and mistakes.

This is a common problem with humanity in general and not just in Elite.

Once in a while a stray shot can be truly unavoidable, but that does not excuse the responsibility, which is still on the player.

A game where people fly without weapons and shields to load more cargo to truck from A to B should neither be called "Elite" nor "Dangerous", honestly.

+1

It's Euro Truck Simulator 3300. I think a minimal fix might be to drastically increase the wear and tear a ship takes to travel without shields, however the galaxy needs to have more teeth. Hopefully this will change soon.

It would be nice if the station icon was a different colour indication their current standing toward you. That way you wouldn't attempt to dock at a hostile station and lose your ship for what is basically a speeding ticket.

I hate to say it, but you don't go out in an expensive ship without having the funds to replace it.

In life a speeding ticket may cost you your life. Add 3 points to a current 6 and lose your lisence. No car so lose your job. No job so lose your house. No house so lose your wife & kids (you still gotta pay kids). Lose all interest in life and lose that!
I just got pulled for over-taking a cop on a dual lane road at 70mph which I believed to be a dual-carriage way. He could have given me £100 fine plus those 3 points which get him his quota filled up for the day for his annual bonus!!!

True, and that would be fair as you've been given several warnings. In Elite you don't get one. So Would it be difficult to paint the reticule on the outpost/station red if they believe you're hostile?

Go to the system map and check where you're wanted and DON'T GO THERE!!
Go to another station (anywhere in the galaxy AFAIK) and pay off your bounty there.

The other day I had a similar experience in my Cobra. I had shoot the police shoot which went pass my guns during a battle, so ended up with being wanted for 400cr (wasnt really my fault, as they shouldnt really fly into your sights). When I went to land, the station went hostile and blew me up. I lost the ship (80,000cr) and all my bounties (200k+). So for a minor 400cr, I lost nearly 300k. I know its not the same as ASP but I know how you feel some-what. Unlike other games, you cant simply say sorry to the NPC.

I agree that stations shouldnt attack you for minior issues, as the reason I was there was to remove it. Its understandable if you have a larger bounty on your head.

Like a few others have said, its like putting in you in prision for wearing the wrong colour t-shirt. Its too harsh!

ps. Equally I can bump into a ship, forcing it to smash into the station without gaining any bad rep myself.

Last night I forgot to ask for docking so I lost my ASP (280K for insurance) a 98K mission reward and I had to pay 48K fine for not completing the mission.
All for a 500cr bounty for trespassing...

Need to be more careful I guess :)

The current 'friendly fire' setup is just a result of very simplistic AI coding. You'll notice that NPC ships can never have friendly fire incidents between each other, because the NPCs probably have explicit "I'm attacking that ship" states. If those hit their intended target then the NPC suffers the usual legal repercussions. If they hit something that wasn't their target, then it wasn't "an attack" and nothing happens.

Because human players are clever monkeys, the devs are apparently too worried about people exploiting any sort of measured response mechanics to actually implement any of those mechanics, leaving us with the current ridiculous situation. :p

Although there are ways to avoid it as people have been very quick to point out. The OP is right, you shouldn't have to avoid this poor game mechanic in the first place. If I saw a police officer chasing a shop lifter and I stepped in to help.... and in the process bumped into the officer I was helping I would be a bit surprised if I was given the electric chair. Certainly what is needed is a few permitted hits and warning messages as with most other space combat games in the past.
