Just lost my newly bought ASP to 400Cr bounty due to accidently hitting SystemSec

Although there are ways to avoid it as people have been very quick to point out. The OP is right, you shouldn't have to avoid this poor game mechanic in the first place. If I saw a police officer chasing a shop lifter and I stepped in to help.... and in the process bumped into the officer I was helping I would be a bit surprised if I was given the electric chair. Certainly what is needed is a few permitted hits and warning messages as with most other space combat games in the past.

Yes but its not bumping is it, hitting means hitting with gunfire, if you tried to help the police and ended up shooting one in the shoulder by accident I think you would face prosecution, though probably not the electric chair. The thing is the OP did not understand how to slip past the station scans using silent running nor even the need to do so. Now they do and hopefully others can learn from their experience. I honestly think that these game rules do make sense and are worth having as they make the game more fun by introducing genuine risks with effective means to survive them in game.

What would help is a fairly explicit explanation of these mechanics in the manual and in particular the tute missions should provide a practice mission for docking unscanned with a warrant outstanding.

Well, shooting at a Wanted Cobra with my just bought ASP, hit one of the Security ships by accident. I noticed the 400Cr bounty on me and thought "Well, I gonna pay that when I dock. No problem."

Then I arrived at the station, request docking, docking granted, I approach the letterbox and get scanned. Suddenly the station opens fire on me and blows me to bits in 3 seconds, no chance to react to it.

Now I am short 40k Cr to rebuy my ASP and actually close to purging Elite from my HDD.

Is this really intended? For lousy 400 credits bounty cuz I hit one Security ship for a split second with my Lasers? This sucks QQ

I was in the same situation with my new Asp, shooting a wanted NPC and got fined for hitting the feds. I then just thought I would murder all of the security too. Nothing came back for me. I thought my rep would take a battering, but after paying my fines at a nearby outpost, I was all pure as the driven snow.
For your situation, you made an error of judgment. Without insurance, you should have actually gone to an Outpost and contacted the pilots federation from there. I am pretty sure though you know this now. A hard lesson to learn :)

I can't believe how many people are defending "the game".

Is it actually logical to issue someone a fine, and then kill them outside the door of where they go to pay it?

Paying the fine of 400cr rids you of the 'bounty' or whatever, and suddenly the cops no longer want you dead? That doesn't make sense either. Even if the fine is paid, the death penalty should still apply...
Since when are you able to purchase your way off death row?

In effect, ED is handing you TWO sentences: first one is the fine, second one is death. Pay us money, then please die.

This game isn't finished. I feel bad for anyone who bought it on "release" and expected a full game.

It's quite hard to credit how many people think that spending every last credit on a ship, flying it without the ability to pay for the rebuy, shooting an innocent person, then trying to dock in a station swarming with police ships shouldn't have major consequences.

It wasn't a fine it was a bounty.

You newer guys need to learn the difference. Quickly.

Can you pay it off? Yes. That makes it a fine.

I'm not new. Been playing for months and months.

If they want it to be a bounty ONLY, they need to take away the ability to pay it.

Other games handle it differently... Ever play any of the elder scrolls games? They let you choose between arrest, paying the fine, or fighting/death.
America's Army would punish friendly fire by "throwing you in the brig". You wouldn't be allowed to join any multi-player games for 1 hour.

Why does ED have such an archaic way of interacting with the NPCs?

Ha! I just lost my fully equipped Asp and over c300k of bounties when a bountied Cobra I had already killed rammed me in his death sequence with 0% hull and took out my 100% hull and 100% 4 pipped A4 shield!

Complain? Nah, I just took the loan and took off again. I've got a lot of money to make up!

(I do wish that could be fixed though :) )

Had the same problem.

I had just killed my first Anaconda, had hit a friendly ship by accident in the process and received a 450cr fine. OK no problem I'll go pick up my bounty and pay of the fine. Having landed at the station it simply wouldn't allow me to pay. The menu item did not appear. Bug I thought? Left the station came back, same issue again. No menu facility, so I though sod it I'm going. Left the station a second time and was then destroyed by the very same station I had left once before???

Am becoming a little peed of with the bugs that are cropping up. I lost a lot of credits through the loss of cartographies and the massive bounties I had accrued but not claimed yet. Then had to fork out for a new ship. Might be asking for my money back soon and try EVE.
