No one else is reporting the problems you see.
ED does not work in direct mode, if you are doing that it will likely explain your poor frame rate.
@phier try super sampling, it makes the rift experience even better
I never mentioned a poor framerate. The only thing I've referenced that you might be thinking of is the *four second long freeze* when you change UI and go into the galaxy or system explorer or enter/leave hyperspace.
ED definitely does work in direct mode. For me it only works in direct mode - extended is way too messed up and shows two screens per eye. It's impossible for you to be on an old build so we're probably experiencing completely different scenarios.
I also enabled supersampling and it made zero difference to the quality. I also tried DSR but that slowed it down to being unplayable.

You can blame Nvidia for this one. They messed up the drivers for the Oculus rift on extended. As before that driver update, it is the best way to go... Why?
In direct to HDM, it forces it to your screen resolution and refresh rate. Like mine its 1600x900 at 60hz When you got to be at the native of the oculus rift. And at minimum of 75hz to use it properly. Which extended allows.
Don't blame Frontier or the Oculus rift for this current mess up.
Its the graphic driver.
But Frontier -is- working to get direct to HDM to be working properly... Just give them time.
As for text unreadable... It's the oculus and dev fault there. Partly. The oculus is in RBGR ( If I got that right ) Meaning it has double the pixels in green. There is a thread about it, showing the pixel's color arrangement.
If you were able to put everything in orange to be in green, all the text would be sharp and readable.
Interesting. I'm using a 4k screen. Perhaps 4k res plus poor resampling down to the rift would explain everything. I'll try dropping the desktop res and see if it helps real quick - although I've been running the game itself in 1080p from the start.
I still have fresh issues with ED. Like no way to exit supercruise. That's also making it unplayable. The frame drive key is bound but there's no way to check that, since the keybinding doesn't exist in the config options. This game wasn't ready for release.
Edit: changing the desktop res made no difference.
Perhaps an example would help: the menu text is illegible, but the graphics settings text which is slightly larger is readable.
Also, I'm not using the Nvidia beta drivers which have the ED/OR issue - it's not supported by Unreal Engine so I have to stick to stable releases.
