Name 1 good fun thing about stations!

Not only that but in most of these stations you can sit down to have a nice cuppa. .

I don't need a station for that I have 'A thermos, sandwiches, corn plasters, telephone money, dandruff brush, animal footprint chart and... one triple thick condom. You never know.'

...commodities - cargo scoop is allready there, and jettison as well... Why simple not just fly to recipient and jet to his/her cargo scoop.... Maybe Trade hus should be playerbased Capital ships.......

Drive-Through shopping? ;-) Nice. Maybe ships need to queue up through a tunnel to (automatically) load the goods they've pre-ordered. :)

OP, a thousand years ago nobody could even envision the internet. At the rate technology is advancing how can you even be sure such a primitive concept as an 'internet' will exist. It is a mistake to say you are 'sure' of these things.

Hi guys.

So so i thought a bit after polstring elsewhere...

we do not need stations in elite...

market, should be in ship feature.. Sure they will have internet 1000 years from now
missions - look above
repair refuel - i am sure it will be done by drones in space 1000 years from now
news - look above
social - well look above
commodities - cargo scoop is allready there, and jettison as well... Why simple not just fly to recipient and jet to his/her cargo scoop.... Maybe Trade hus should be playerbased Capital ships....

anyways.. I Challenge u all... Name 1 fun thing about stations that really adds to the game play...

(and please dont flame, i like the game, like flying and dogfighting - i just hate waiting the little gaming time i have)

And if you want to buy 100 tonnes of cargo you'd scoop'em up one by one?

Space stations/cities seem like natural progress of humankind. We always created communities, since the dawn of men. In caves first, then we built shelters, which then became villages, towns, cities and metropolis, we built up and down. We already have a space station in 2014. Space cities are next ;)

You missed one...I fixed it :D

In the game lore we are playing in, this is simply not true. Like Angorak said, signals/impulses do not travel through hyperspace. This is also reflected in some of the ED books I've read. Probably something to do with hyperspace not being a place you enter but a state of space time your fsd creates. I guess a system relay could be an entity you download/upload to, but you still need ships travelling there to do it.

I like stations (and they make sense financially, ecologically, logistically and in terms of gameplay), but this can't possibly be the case. Let's say you can't transmit via witchspace. What's stopping you from proxying traffic? Have a small group of relay ships that jump back and forth a few times a day, broadcast their payloads and receive new ones, which they then broadcast when then jump back. It's not an online exchange, it's a batch exchange. This worked just fine for Usenet back in the day.

In networking terms, your latency and round-trip times are immense (hours), but your bandwidth doesn't have to be low.

I think the comment about no inter-system communications was an original Elite gameplay decision (or, to be honest, limitation) that was carried through to the novels without much explanation. Usenet reigned supreme in 1984 and saw megabytes of daily traffic (when home micros had 32–64K of RAM), but not many people outside of the academia and hard-core techie circles knew about it or the ARPAnet.

Obvious troll thread
If so then unintended, i really do like the game. I would just like the stations to either just be a swift funktion or have some purpose that is fun and interactive.

and i as i wrote it is just my few cents, im still new in the game, so i might Discover the hidden mening later.
additionally most of the replies are pretty valid... Not many just love the functions in the stations, but rater the existence and feel. Fairly in Line with the post.

So no throlling intended, just as the forum stipulates a "dangerous" suggestion/question mark.

that Said, in all games i played so far there is allways the "old" Crew that has fallen in love with the game mechanics and swear to the format... Well im new in this game and still see it with fresh eyes, so i reserve the right to question and suggest where i room for improvement. Throlling or not ;-)

Actually that could be pretty cool, like a loading ramp, for loading/unloading.
that would actually add gameplay/function

Name one good thing about stations.

Okay.

You can fly amazing "laps" inside the superstructure at the top or the bottom. Connect all four sides and it's a Home Run!

There, I did. Now it's your turn. :)

What you are suggesting is a total immersion killer!

Stations are a central part of the game and I personally love the feeling of swooping perfectly onto my docking place at high speeds.

The 'Docking Request Denied' 'feature' at smaller stations needs urgently dealt with. A solid queuing system at the very least, whereby the CMDR knows exactly where he stands in the line.

well i like the Big hollow ones, its neat to fly inside those, switched for solo play to loose the waiting time.. That added to the fun( even though its prolly not in Line with my pvp instinct)
and if at some point i can leave my ship in the stations.. Ill do a standing ovation
