Am i playing this game wrong !

Reading the forums I get the impression I am doing something very very wrong indeed...
I read about the traders making millions of creds per trip...truckers in space...
I found that I was placed in a random start location and had to visit the surrounding systems to identify the trade import/export commodities, I then had to take note of the demand and quantities..(some anomolies in this part of the game, still needs tweaking....or is it settling down still?).
This revealed to me the many uses, and limitations of the galaxy map. I never knew it was so versatile.....and I was a Gamma AND Beta player
Finding this trade information was financed with jobs from the bulletin boards in each system I visited, Identifying jobs that fitted my jump range and general direction, Now I have a good knowledge of the systems local to me and make a decent income from trading runs. Am I now a 'easy mode trader' ????

Next comes the PvP/Interdictions/Griefing/Pirating
Having played exclusively ONLINE for over six months...I can say with a degree of experience.....Player on player deaths TO ME have happened TWO TIMES!!!!..(Both times In Beta) and I was destroyed both times....In my defence (to save some credibility)..One I was mining and not concentrating on my surroundings until I was floating in space :D ..the other was in a conflict zone..where Death is expected (but still unpleasant). Because I still spend a lot of my playtime running 'pizza delivery' missions along with trading.....I feel I should be starting the game in SOLO mode????

And I also cannot find...no matter how hard I try ...the 'No Game/Shallow/Repetitive/Not Rewarding' aspects of the Game ???
During system scans with my basic scanner I have uncovered (and noted), mining rich areas to be visited if/when I get back into that, I have discovered stations that added to my potential trade routes..A mundane task that has has one system refusing to reveal the second star I know is in there...It remains unknown and I have revisited it several times since to find it.....It's become my nemesis and I will continue to return until I discover all it's secrets!!!!

Player actions ingame have no consequences...
Again, I fail to comprehend what the posters are trying to say !!!??
I have to be very careful what missions I take, my 'home' system consists of competing factions...as a trader/pizza man I want to have all on my client list...and I must admit that I am a little nervous because I am allied to a faction in one system who is in 'player created' turmoil..and I am away on vacation wondering what will happen to my faction status....will my allied faction even exist when I return in the new year???....
Even staying Neutral to the big three I seem to be engrossed in the politics of the universe !!!..

So..what am I doing wrong?...where is Elite Dangerous Hiding this Shallow, repetitive, and non challenging gameplay??? !!!!!

Happy New Year Commanders!!!! (looking forward to getting back to the Elite Universe in the new year) :)

You're not doing anything wrong. Keep playing and find what you love to do most and do that. Don't put too much stock in otheres here making outlandish claims on trading revenues; especially when they don't provide any details (ship, starsystem, commodity, trade distance, mission or trade, etc...)

Trading is broken; the interface simply will lie to you. I hate to say it, but you need to get a spreadsheet/notepad going and start making note of StarSystems and their commodity lists on your own. I hate doing this, but after getting sick and tired of empty trade runs, failing trade missions, and losing money on a full cargo hold of Palladium, I now use my own spreadsheet.

Now, everytime I travel, I make something, even if it's a hull full of food cartridges.

Insurance cost is hardly "everything"...just saying...

If you get A-class pimped parts to your ship, insurance cost of it quickly becomes quite something :p agreed though that quickly you will also earn more money, so it compensates increase in insurance cost... Currently my viper's insurance cost is near 100k

More attempted flamebait.

Have a cookie.

Actually the first time I read it I thought he was complaining. The second time through I realised that was not the case. Certainly for me exploring a system with the Basic Discovery system can be challenging - then I remembered to use parallax while in SC to identify other system bodies, as well as ships flying off towards them.

My friends and I have just discovered the joys of dropping into a Resource Extraction Site and taking down Pirates, made 1 million credits in a day, and we are now Friendly with the Empire.

The game is so much about how you want to play it. Done enough delivery missions for the time being, have a break and do some bounty hunting.

As for the non multiplayer aspects. Not true had a play and have managed to lock onto my a Frame Wake and drop into the same instance as someone I was flying with. We can drop into the same resource site and hunt together. It's not perfect and needs tweaking somewhat but it's there if you work at it.

100k is pretty much nothing tbh, when you can make double that much in a hauler in literally 25 minutes.

1) Get Cobra, Viper or Eagle

2) Go bounty hunting

3) Pewpew lazors or Ratatata multicannons

4) Profit

5) Fit better and better components to your ship, try out different weapons, see what fits your playstyle (but always, always keep enough money to rebuy in case you lose your ship)

6) Mad profit

Yeah, almost same with my viper :) though RNG is bit harsher for us bounty hunters, sometimes it's just 3k bounties and you get barely 50k in 25 min. Sometimes you get 3 delicious cobras same time trying to kill you, each 20-30k bounty on their head ;) boom, 90k in 5-10min, depending if they happen to have shields.

I too, am wondering where this awful game is that so many people are complaining about. I thought it was pretty awesome with just an x-box controller, now I have an X-55 and I think my girlfriend is regretting buying it for me already. Immersion and precise control have gone waaaay up. Now I just need a rift and it might get to the point where I get sustenance from an IV just so I can stay in my ship.

I freaking love this game.

can you describe two days of life of pro ED gamer who do not see "shallow"?

If I had been keeping logs, I could describe the way I don't find ED shallow since standard beta. Unfortunately I haven't kept logs.

Anyway, the way I see it, ED isn't a game you just rush through like a lot of AAA titles out there. In fact, it's pretty much impossible to do that. Want to really get into it? Create a back story about your commander. Why does he/she do what they do? Where do their allegiances lie? You can even create a role for them. Personally, I've taken up the unofficial title of Imperial Inquisitor, roam around and crushing dissenters and uprooting sedition against my Emperor. Any ship having any affiliation with the corrupt federation is fair game and anyone caught besmirching the Empire with be destroyed. Some times I take missions as that role or simply pick up a load of battle weapons to help my chosen faction along on it's road to galactic enlightenment.

Once you even have an inkling of an idea as to who your commander is, even simple point A to B flights can take a different shape. Maybe you'll see a fugitive that needs interdiction enroute ? Maybe you'll stumble upon a defenceless imperial trader under attack by federation scum?

The game is far from shallow, it IS more of an experience than a mere 'game'

Some may even call it 'practice'

I get it, it is great for pen & paper RPG, or some book, or text game adventure, I can take Blender and make my own 3D system with 3D ships and play them around, or borrow my kids lego's and play it too, but that's not for I am buying games.

I rather asking here about those 2 days of life, to see if I am not losing some content, how do you guys are finding it deep.
