youre wrong. The world is full of well of long established civilisations and mankind has shown a repeated tendency to want to group together and cooperate.

the only reason a Lord of the Flies or the Animal Farm ever made it to print is because of the civilisation which nurtured the art and facilitated them

Hilarious. That is utopian hopefulness at best. It will never be a reality because at our genetic core, we are predispositioned to kill in order to survive. It goes as far back as basic bacteria. He who gets the food, light, water or air, lives. And some of the humans out there are far less intelligent than the rest... and the only thing they know are those animal instincts.

Killing, fighting, war--all of it is stupid. Read Pale Blue dot. Nothing can sum it up better. But we are as we have evolved. And as idealistic as some of us might be, we can't change that random variable that might come around and wreck all those dreams we have for peace.

It's better to be prepared for that fight because as long as people are allowed to exist in this Universe, it will come someday.

Been in open play since day 1 of release and was all through alpha beta and gamma as available

Been griefed about twice and Never in release and I self clear saved on day 1 so started in the starter system

And Im in open all on my own haven't seen a player for about 14 days now in my own little corner making 800k to 1M creds an hour and very happy thank you

Pirate

I look forward to pirating. I don't feel like I know how to do it effectively yet, but I'm learning more every day. Can a group of people dominate a system or trade route? Possibly collect taxes for protection? With 400 billion locations I think it would be awesome if this happened.

Wow there is some hardcore unfounded philosophy going on here. To impart a little quote "Mr Easy thought he would take up philosophy, for it is a poor man who cannot talk rubbish" ;)

How? are you trading commodities? What ship do you fly? I'm making a tenth of that and I'm getting board.

A group can saturate the markets by trading heavily on the same route but that's the only way to "dominate" a trade route.

As for player control of territory - a requirement for the kind of things you're talking about - the game has been designed with defense in depth to make this impossible.
There are no choke points to control traffic.
The instancing makes it impossible to control traffic even if choke points did exist.
The different modes make it possible for anyone who wishes to ensure they are in a separate instance to the group attempting to control the space.

Boringnick,

You need to read "Lord of the Flies" or "Animal Farm" matey....

In a way this game is a social experiment - we have our sandbox, and we're starting to play in it, and the one thing you can guarantee about homo sapiens is that they will eventually turn on one another over time....

Just give it time, Cmdr

Regards,

So true it hurts.

Nope, people will jump into solo and reach a station. So you hard work as a pirate will be pretty boring and without meaning.

Even with instancing it's possible to control traffic. It won't be the 100% blockade, but rather the increased risk of cargo loss. What totally ruins this is the ability to bypass through solo mode.

However, player controlled systems are not designed to block the traffic. In fact they welcome it. It's more about players taxing transactions and adding the passive income. Bluntly chopping off such features limits the content we all strive for.
