Where is everyone?

Meeting another player is a rare occurrence in the game. Unless you head to a system that is in a state of war, then you may find more players.

Again ED will die out because of this, if only want to keep their 40 year old space trucker fan base thats up to them as long as they are will to aacept the consquenses

You do know there is a lot more to this game than "space trucker"? I've hardly done any trading except for a few runs with rares which got me about a million. Been thoroughly enjoying exploring and bounty hunting cheers. Guess some people just have a very limited view of the game.

I see people now and then, most often on the radar, but sometimes catching the names. I also expected to see lots of humans at Sol when I was there, but didn't, which was a bit odd. But it's a big place. I play in Open while bounty hunting, but don't care too much either way so I'll go Solo for the screen shots when I have more money to explore.

Some people think it's not a game worth playing if the ships they are shooting aren't other players.

For them, I say they will never get the chance to shoot at me in any game that has PvE. I don't mix the two, if I'm doing PvE content I will flat out refuse to open myself for PvP no matter how small the chance or how meaningless the consequences, and if I can't opt out of PvP then I will simply not play.

I love PvP, mind. It's just that for my PvP fix I go play PvP-only games, where everyone has explicitly opted into the fight. I find attacking someone trying to do PvE content, or being attacked while doing PvE content, to be the opposite of fun.

The problem is, they don't quit the forums

In my case, because I think the game can still be great. Unfortunately I don't think it currently is.

Though what would make the game great, for me, forcibly goes through providing a version that can be fully modded (including gameplay mechanics), where players can pause and continue later, where I can backup and roll back my saves, and so on. It's rare for me to be fully satisfied by a dev's vision of the game (and, thus, with a game where the dev is in full control), and DB's fully connected vision definitely don't align with my own idea of fun for a number of reasons.

Ok, yesterday I was as Barnards star, Miller port and saw no real players. I've just applied the port forwarding trick and loaded up the game. I scanned my contacts list from within Miller port an lo, I saw 4 CMDRs in just a few minutes.

Excellent!

Everyone has switched to solo mode or group play cause they are scared of pirates, The end of ED for alot of ppl is soon to come.

Well you know why that is? I have lost my ship 5 times now in Solo play, how long do you think I will last in Open play? the game is too harsh for Open play, I could be killed instantly by a couple guys playing together just out for kicks and thats my insurance gone again and all my unclaimed bounties the lot. I get killed all the time in BF4 but I dont have to shell out 75K every time I die!
.
I think some people think all the backers who have had a big head start on us are sat in Anacondas waiting to nail all the noobs!
.
.

But having said that, the main reason i dont play Open is because docking is okay in Solo but in open i hear the docks are busy with queues.....and I can imagine all the bumping around etc, the docks are a bit small to be honest....

They don't quit the game either :D

For the topic, I see players in open in a lot of systems. I've explicitly checked the UPNP config of my router to make sure UDP ports are allowed to be opened automatically, dunno if OP did that...

Not yet, and I have no problem editing config files, but come on... this is just a workaround of a problem.

Yeah that's why I posted that link, another player started a similar thread couple of days ago for the same reason and apparently it works

Ive noticed many players run from other players as soon as they pop up on radar...sigh, too many paranoids coming from bad multiplayer xperiences.....im pretty sure ur issue is an instancing one.

I am playing from Alpha and when game released, I was dropped 30 LY from my initial starting point, that was i Bootis. I don't even bother going to Sol (neither do I know where is it from my location), space has such other sights to be seen and discovered ...Empty triangle or empty vertical stick show real players. In the systems I travel, stations is full of them but they not communicating, thats another thing :)

For me, home is where girls with big (.)(.) are and that is Venusville bar on Mars ... :)))

I like you reply. :p You're lucky that you see so many players around. For me, NPCs are everywhere.

Wow, nope..wrrrrong....

Might be an exaggeration, but certainly the solo/group play is at the detriment to the multiplayer experience, it doesn't take a genious to figure it out

No Traders = No Pirates = No Bounty hunters the traders are all in bubble wrap mode and so two entire career paths are made redundant...

If pirates are a problem (I'm a newbiw and have only encountered two pirates. One I shot up (AI ?) before escaping and one I evaded with my escape vector) wouldn't it make sense to fly away into the galaxy somewhere.
The further out the less people and the less pirates. Then once you have bigger guns than the pirates start eating the pirates?
I claim the right to Parlay!

There must be peace in the whole Universe then, because whereever I go there are no players around (except for rare occurences, and my friends).

I've been there too! I think I've seen you -- no, just joking, unfortunately :) I'm glad the port forwarding trick did work for you... I'll try it when I get home.

I was yesterday in Aulin/Dahan there were around 7 Comanders in Dahan then i went to Vega and there were 3 then i went Exploring end encounterd around 10 Miners and one Viper who also interdictet me and ran in the end away...

Don't be afraid of Open play, it's not a gankfest. As you can see, probably you won't event bump into another player. I never had to wait for docks to let me in. Awesome signature you have, by the way.
