The Paint Job Prices, Pretty Hefty Yeah?

Individual skins are about right in fact, having played a few cash shop games, I was quite surprised they were so cheap. I see these items as a way for those that wish to support the games future development can do so.
.
They are cosmetic, they are not compulsory, they are not required to play so just don't buy what you cannot afford pretty much sums it up.
.
As for an 'unconditional' 3rd person view, it will never happen, we may get hangar cams and screenshot drones but that will be it. In addition we will probably get the ability to get out of the ship at stations and EVA at some point.

I like vanity items, because Devs can convert simple Reskins into RL money without damaging the game. Fluff just don`t hurt like possible other cash grab items. I have never bought skins via cash, but won several in contests and events, and see it as content. Some may pay, i wait for events or skip it. Whatever, it`s not important or influences my gameplay in any way.

The Prices are ok, some are even cheap if you compare them to other games.

I just bought the Union flag skin for my viper, looks very, very chavvy but so what? The region of space I'm in, the only people who will see it are NPC's and me in outfitting :D

Buy them to support the game, worth every penny IMO!

So am I the only person who thinks that the paints/skins on the website store are a bit steep for what they are? I mean... $3+ dollars for the very cheapest paint you can get for one single ship is pretty bad, and that's just the cheapest. The Viper has a Gold paint, one single paint for one single ship for over 17 dollars. You can have bought 20 games on Steam with that kind of money. Heck, just today I bought 20 Command & Conquer games for 75% cheaper than 17 dollars.

So... this is where the real problem no one will ever admit comes into play. Yeah lets say you spend 18 dollars for the 6 skins for a Viper - BUT - the only person who will Ever see it is yourself and ONLY when you go to outfit your ship. I know this game tried to emphasize as much as it could on multiplayer aspects but from what I've played for several weeks is that the only MP interaction is when you're at stations docking or undocking. Other than that you almost never interact with anyone, and 90% of the time if you do, you're never close enough to see their paint because they're 200-700L/s away.

So with that being said, personally I believe that the game being $60 dollars alone, and while every other videogame retailer had a sale for the holidays (all but Frontier and E:D) - that the $60 dollar price point for the game alone should warrant that the ship paints be a lower price. And by any luck, lower the price of the paints and it'll encourage more people to buy them. With the encouragement you have more people purchasing them, and with that it will allow the funding to create more paints to sell.

What kind of dollars, good sir?

There are real dollars from Australia, Belize, Canada or New Zealand. Also those lesser dollars that fail to sport the Queen's head such as those from Brunei, Hong Kong (save for those correctly designed coins still in circulation), Namibia, Singapore, Suriname and Taiwan,. The latter, because of the lack of the correct visage, barely count as real currency at all.

So, again I ask. Three of whose dollars?

:)

USD, interesting fellow.

When i played EVE ship spinning in stations was an actual pastime. I would like something vaguely similar in ED so i can admire my ships from any angle i choose!

haha, those days are long gone, I used to perfer the coke bottle and bread bag solution back in the day

I believe that is known as a "lung"

The backers were so happy about supporting frontier that they do not even care about being able to get paintjobs in game. Frontier had a who kickstarter post about this, but now it's just a locked feature that costs real money.

They were under the impression that Modding would be an option for this kind of stuff during the kickstarter, because Braben said he wants to support modding.

I play Warframe a lot. A F2P game, mind you, and I like it so much I think I've spent over 30EUR on cosmetics (not in one sitting, mind you). The prices are reasonable and the cosmetics look great. It's also important to note that it's NOT just skins. In fact, I haven't bought a single skin, but rather actual 3D addons to weapons and gear, which I and others can see.

Oh, and did I mention Warframe is a F2P game?

Well, as it is, you won't see me spending any more money on Elite. It was expensive to begin with, the extra skins are few, you can't really see them, others will rarely see them (unless you play in a group all the time) and finally - the skins are simply way, way to expensive.

Of course Frontier can do whatever they want with the skins and have any pricing policy they want. I just don't think their approach is sound.

My viper proudly sports and aussie flag and i get around in an ignition red cobra, its just another way of showing support for the game, the prices are relatively inexpensive, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I paid for each of the skins... I will buy more as and when they become available for the different ships, just looking forward to when they increase the range of ships they sell skins for :)

I actually prefer this type of pay content for a game rather than "pay for features". Yesterday I paid for a paint job for my eagle and viper, I don't mind that I don't see it from my cockpit, I don't see the colour of my car while I'm driving either. But I spend so much time in outfitting, that I think that I will appreciate it looking the way I want instead.

Now if FD offered for X dollars to have a base paint that I could have fun with and make my own in Photoshop, That would be awesome.

Paints are very silly. I have bought a couple of the £2 ones.

We need to see our ships!

No need for drones, we just want to be able to get out and look.

There is very little combat advantage to this.

This fine gentlemen is the reason ED are charging what they are charging for pure cosmetics..because there are people out there that will pay for it.
That some of us will look at the dear chap like he has a screw loose paying the price for another game for some pixels he will almost never see is clearly irrelevant to him and i agree its his money and he can do what he wants with it.
I am just disappointed to see ED resorting to these tactics already and have this dread feeling that its the start of a slippery slope that will end up with a diablo 3 money siphon and the beginning of pay to get ahead akin to all those horrible games on Facebook.

Call me a sucker, but i've paid for quite a few skins already, and will buy more. Hell, i even got a sidewinder skin and i've not flown once since flying to my eagle at the start and selling the sidewinder.

Or the other option perhaps is pay-to-win or monthly subscription. Personally, ill pay for cosmetics given the alternatives thanks.

I specifically said pay to get ahead not pay to win as there is nothing to win here..you can have the biggest ship with all A rated components but thats not a win really its a just a possible end goal.
As for monthly subscription that could be a serious problem for ED they already promised in their advertising a single player offline game...that wasn`t delivered then putting in a clause in the EULA that states if you don`t agree to advertising in game then play off line AFTER announcing that you couldn`t play offline, then asking a fan base you have already pi55ed off for the privilege of playing in a mode they never wanted in the first place is commercial suicide.
