Frontier VR Developers -> REACT ! SIMPLE fix to double our effective solution. WHY ?!

This thread is pointless. If the OP had done some due diligence, he would have found that the devs have already stated that the "color matrix" feature is going to be expanded in the near future to allow for full featured HUD color customization, and not in the form of editing xml files. The version they checked in was them being nice, since it's good enough for people to play with. You don't need to be loud, you don't need to sell your point, and the devs are already aware of the advantages of the green color, and of their players desire to modify the HUD to any color they want. All you have to do is look around the forums a bit, and rest assured that the feature is coming.

Chillax OP ... It's xmas ;) a fix will be here very shortly, but not because you are ranting and raving.

Ok, I get that OP could have sounded a little less demanding about it but I don't understand some people's comments on this thread.

VR isn't important to Frontier? We're posting in a dedicated subcategory just for it. I think they care.

And seeing how anybody can edit the colours with a few tweaks to GraphicsConfiguration, saying it's 'hardwritten' is a bit silly. It would just be more convenient if there were in-game settings to change it and perhaps nicer default scheme for when Oculus support is on.

I've updated my EDDS tool with the option to change GUI color. Quite useful if you want to experiment.

You are welcome,
<MatrixRed> 0.18, 0, -1 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> -1, 1, -1 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.15, 0.32, 1 </MatrixBlue>

This is from "void" on the forums here, it is the (by far) best setup I found (GraphicsConfiguration.xml) to fix the issue as good as possible for now.
The speciality is that it gets a green text but does not destroy the red enemies (however yellow becomes green, but at least we have red and green)

However, we need loud voices and we need to keep them loud until Frontier reacts.

I am not sure if they did this on purpose, I can hardly believe they do not know about it as they are in contact with Oculus. If they don't know .. Oculus knows.
Just no idea what the reason would be.
In any case, we need a fix. And from all bugs, this one is the easiest to fix.

Spread the word :)

Thanks for these settings. The red text only ones are nearly unreable but at least hostiles stay red so its worth it.

Fellow DK2 user here. I can see what OP means about the colours making text hard to read but honestly it's the size of it that makes the most difference. To even read the mission statement on my left panel, I have to lean to nearly outside my positional tracking range.

Seeing how they're the problem areas are holograms, wouldn't it be simpler to just enlarge them or move them closer to the player? It's not like they have to fit within the bounds of a monitor when you can look around freely.

Check the matrix settings above.
I have those settings and I do not have to lean to read left or right sided text.
The green text gives twice the resolution, that's why you don't need it in a bigger font.

It's not perfect for DK2 but huge differences to the orange color (which is the worst to display on a DK2)

Until we get our bugfix:

I also noticed that increasing DSR has a strong influence on the graphics quality.
Mainly everything that is not green becomes a lot "prettier".
Even a tiny DSR setting has a big effect.

On the other side, the hidden SSAA option is deadly.
The performance is even on 980 SLI very bad, the quality increase is minor and the oculus tracking does not work properly (for me)

That's crazy. Presumably this is due to some aspect of the Rift? If so is this likely to be fixed in the consumer edition?

Its not something that needs to be fixed. Its just a fact that as long as they are using the Samsung Pentile Screens there will be more green pixels but that's not a negative thing its just a fact of the hardware that developers have to take into consideration when making something for the Oculus Rift. The text in game will be fixed for DK2 users eventually, but I can understand that they probably have other bigger issues right now since you can change the colors yourself. Yes it changes more than just text but it is better than nothing here is how you can do it if you don't know > (Copied from my other post)
Change your GUI color for much better readability. Here are instructions = http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangero...the_gui_colors
Green variations work best in my experience with the DK2.
This is my current setup, if you want to give it a try <MatrixRed> 0.18, 0, -1 </MatrixRed> <MatrixGreen> -1, 1, -1 </MatrixGreen> <MatrixBlue> 0.15, 0.32, 1 </MatrixBlue> It is not the best but I like the mix.
There is also an app Smack332 made, although I have not personally tried it. You can find it here = https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=65258

Your view that just because its easier to read green text does not translate to the text should therefore be green. If this logic was applied to the whole game then all ships should be green and all stations green and all planets green. I thought the world had moved on since the green screens of the 70's/80's!

I know the text is easier to read in green, however orange text is not a bug its a design choice. Now you can disagree if you think that choice is right or wrong but I am sure the choice of HUD/text colour was a design decision done without thought of the limitation of certain hardware (and in my opinion) that's how it should be, a designer dreams and then that dream is implemented by technicians/programmers.

I personally would like to see eventually a way of changing HUD/text colour myself one day, however I'm not loosing any sleep over it and I can enjoy my DK2 quite happily in the meantime and would prefer the good developers at Frontier to concentrate on fixing game breaking bugs (colour of text isn't one!).

I would also like to say that I found the tone and phrasing used by the OP to be rude and disrespectful.

I don't understand why there is no traction on this anymore... Please continue to request this, it is an easy fix from devs...

At least give us the option for text to have its own xml section so that we can change it in the HUD... I don't know what langage you guys use but in java, it should be a default text property and would take 10mn to develop in...

Pleaseeeeeeee....

Agreed... I tried playing with the Blue/green temp palette change but no being able to see green/red/yellow ships on the radar was a pain. Being able to read the text was AWESOME though lol.

Can't wait for this feature to one-day be added (along with Direct-2-Rift and the ability to walk around in outfitting and inside the ship. Tried so many times to find a way to look up the ramp in outfitting with the DK2 :)

No you didn't. Oculus Rift support was a gift from Frontier and never was part of the original pitch or mentioned as a included feature. Frontier added it in 3 days for Christmas 2013.

Horse-Pucky. I signed up in Beta 3 BECAUSE of Rift support... Right now Elite is the flagship of games for VR and they should be reaping the good press about it.

@Sanderson
I bought the game recently, Oculus was and is officially supported.
The DK2 is the only reason why I invested in the game and why I keep trying to make it better.

It's not a "gift" it's a part of the game, an official feature and the reason for thousands if not tens of thousands of people why they bought ED.

Maybe for you it's a gift if you baked it before that was anounced.
For me (and many others) it's not.

@Thorvald:
Like most of us I guess, I am thankfull that Frontier decided to release the game with DK2 support.
But also this is the sole reason why I bought it, that's a multi million business reason for Frontier on the other end. That's why I don't understand why they didn't already fix this in earlier beta.

Anyway, you should check my first thread in detail.
I posted a MATRIX setting for green text which ->DOES NOT<- remove the red symbols.
Friend/Foe is perfectly visible just yellow is greenish and pure red text is difficult to read.
I doubt you will find a better Matrix setting, I tried it for hours ;)

Well you may have signed up because of that but, the fact remains that it was added in three days at FD and put in at Christmas 2013 as a "gift" to players. Argue all you want but, it was not part of the original development plan nor was it advertised as such. It was added simply because one of the Devs said he could do it in a day (then changed it to 3 to be safe) and because they could.

And it now is official and fully supported in the game, who cares Xmas at 2013... old news/ancient history, its here now and working sheesh. We are not asking for it NOW, we are not asking for it "or we quit", we just want to make sure our voice gets heard among the din of "whiners" who think the game is too boring (however if the OP is asking for this "right now", then by all means beat away lol).

ED in the Rift is INCREDIBLE and a huge game changing experience. I'll never play another non VR game if I can avoid it, it's just that good. We only want to see ED get better and "rule the rift".

I like the original orange ship HUD, looks smart imo. I tried changing it to green but it made everything look dated, I could read the text slightly better but I hated it!! Personally I'll be sticking with the default HUD for now, I really don't see the problem with leaning in just a tad to read text (Gotta make use of that tacking camera I paid for). Until I had chance to see the HUD in different colours I was sold on the idea of changing it to green... not so much now.

I find the green solution great, because I can just glance at my screen rather than focus in. I admit I LIKE the original colors better, but obviously this is a personal preference thing. Now that I'm used to green odds are I wouldn't want to go back to red.

Ditto.
Also I can read the amber print just fine now with 1.5 DSR without needing to lean in.
