It's obviously, factually, and confirmed to be, a bug which you have exploited.
The amount of fun created for you or others does not change this. I suppose it's better than removing fun, but it really has zero bearing on what a bug exploit is, or the fact that it should not have been able to happen.
They already have responded, your just late to the drama. They asked the people affected which of 3 choices they wanted to happen. Those affected apparently had a majority chose to keep it, which was one of the options. But to do so means they forfeit entry in the elite competition.
You mean they want to share their free credits with some others that are still in the 'race to elite' competition. Which invalidates the competition, no?
You can only enlighten yourself by reading what already has been written a billion times.
The economy is the entire game, not just the commodities and market and if someone has millions/billions through normal means good luck to them - influence away!
Also, there is no jealousy on my part, I just care that the game is in good hands and will still be here for many years to come.
But he is right. Showing everyone how "generous" and "great" you are with your unfair advantage is just destroying the fun for everyone who wants to have a fair online game where only legit ingame actions determine player progression.
Earning ships BY using them. This is elite. Not cheating to get infinite money.

My "unfair advantage" only affects those that want to be affected by it. I don't interact with anyone unless they choose to interact with me. I don't attack players. Players attack me. If they want to risk killing me to get a large bounty then that's their prerogative. In no way am I affecting anyone who doesn't want to be affected.

Actually, what I want is for you to show me that you actually have a valid reason to think I'm having a negative impact on anyone else. The fact that you keep dodging the question implies to me that you are just spewing nonsense and have no real reason, other than you are just upset that I got a lucky break and you didn't.
One of my friends ran into the 4 billion credit sell price bug while we were playing together that fateful evening. He had lost all his cargo at that point, and tried to make the transaction out of morbid curiosity.
He was not awarded 4 or 5 billion credits.

You asked for how this might affect other players, there's one reason. Take it onboard or dismiss it out of hand but please don't pretend you've not heard people voice why they're not too happy about it.

Intent. Your conviently overlooked that point. Players affected were unaware they were getting excess credit. It was point out that many did not even know it was a potential issue. THe server taking a dump on itself and removing and replacing cargo/gear is not the fault of the player involved. They did not intend to cause the server to wig out, it just happened that way. I myself lost cargo from my hold several times during this issue, but it was so low grade that any potential loss or increase was minor. I tried several times to get rid of stuff and couldnt and then could and then couldnt again that I logged off and waited for an hour and logged in again.
If someone else did the same thing with more expensive gear and cargo and inexplicably gets several billions credits, there is no intent. And it is not deliberate.
I can see this in my mind. Beginners scoop up "stolen" palladium, get shot by stations and come to the forums whining about "exploiters" ruining their game.
It has nothing to do with morals. I - for example - don't care about morals at all. But I do care for a fair game experience when it comes to online games.

Offering choices that allows mistakes or exploits to stand is a terrible precedent.

Once you notice you have a significant quantity of credits you should not have, you become a willful exploiter the moment you neglect to report the issue, or decide to keep them.
