I'm very much looking forward to me and a couple of pirate mates interdicting a trade convoy, only to find a Type 9 with a whole bunch of Viper/Cobra friends. At the moment, piracy for me is mostly about dropping someone out, typing 'drop 5 units', targeting their thrusters and blasting away, and almost always this ends up in them suffering an unfortunate accident fully laden. I get no cargo, they get no profit, and as much as I don't mind grinding up some fluffies it'd be far more interesting if there was some fight back ;-)

It's not about problems, it's about player interaction. Bargaining prices and building up reputation is a game in itself.

Maybe you didn't read my post properly. I replied to nosscar who stated that payment for escorts would not be possible due to selling in game credits for real money. What I did was giving a solution for this problem by letting the game decide the amount of credits. That way missions between players cannot be abused.

This will just speed up what is already happening, I.e. Any trader in open with any sense will move to lower traffic areas away from player hubs and at the edges of populated space and pirates will be left picking on newbies in haulers near start systems, rares traders and fellow pvp players trading near their hunting grounds.

Where I'm currently based (and have been for a week) there is one other trader. That's it. I've seen them once and player only pirating this area would be distinctly unproductive for a lone player pirate, never mind a group of them. I expect this will affect me not a jot unless I take a trip into the core for some bounty hunting... And no, I'm not naming the system ;) A good trader never tells.....

Traders can also make use of Wings, there by creating a convoy of protected vessels if you have people also flying as an escort. Or maybe the odd Q ship?

They could kind of do that now. They could do that in EVE whenever. They NEVER do. It won't happen. Traders don't want to fight. That's the thing with the Wings expansion. It will just encourage fleets of PVPers to attack lone traders. It's why I left EVE, to be honest, and I don't see it improving this game any. It potentially gives the traders the tools to defend themselves (although they have that already) but, by far the majority, have demonstrated time and again, in this game and others, that they have no desire to use them.

With all the buzz around the power of groups that wings will provide, I'm not seeing any discussion on how pirates will be able to or intend to put this to use. The deck's already stacked against solo or small groups of traders fending off or escaping from pirates as it is, but when facing an entire wing of them, I would expect the chance of survival when opting for anything but total submission to be about nil.

There are thousands of star systems out there. The only time I've encountered players in the past two weeks is around "capital" worlds (founder's, Achenar etc.) and worlds with rare goods. If pirates want to group up let them. I'll go trade and fly elsewhere in this big, big galaxy. :) (If anything the game seems rather hard on illegal activities so far - pirate activity needs a boost IMHO).

Hasn't anyone ever realised that maby the "bounty hunters" are the pirates?

Imagine the face on the trader when the escorts get the signal to coop with the pirates?

No they can't do that already. They can not post a mission asking for escorts. There is no payment system in place. You could not only use that for player interaction but for pve as well. You could for example escort a NPC trader fighting off NPC pirates. That would greatly enhance the current missions and lead to a better gameplay. Why people are against gameplay improvements is beyond me.

Wings Preview. Or, mind your own business and don't get involved

I was at Kappa Fornica (spelling?) dropping off some bounties and missions.

Saw a wanted Asp in the area, thought I'd interdict him. Then I noticed players, quite a few players. Either helping this Asp or trying to get him.

Have no idea what was going on, some sort of clan war maybe.
Haven't seen this many players in a war zone, let alone a random part of space.

Wouldn't mind if someone would fill me in as to what was happening.

Looked serious.

I'm optimistically thinking that there will be more people who enjoy running convoys than people who want to take them out so it should be fine. I think all the action will end up in systems where the majority of people enjoy the extra dimension pvp brings anyway.

A group entered an instance following the first guy FSD low energy wake and dropping when safe :)

Everyone has fun. Works quite good albeit requires good throttle control and fine tuned drop from SC.

From the vid it feels like a settled combat ?

I wonder, given the whole space is connected, if instances can flow into areas where other instances have been generated if you travel far enough.

And there are hundred thousands of players out there, millions by 2016 if frontiers estimations are correct.

They added mass to low energy wakes before the 1.04 patch, so its very easy now to get to them. Was a nightmare before when someone was in the middle of nowhere.

It is...you could see that even back in Alpha 2 during the first multiplayer test when two "scenarios" turned out to be about 15 minutes from each other at maximum speed. You can also see this if you drop in to normal space outside the "dropzone" of a station and then slowly fly towards it.

The "instances" has nothing to do with the physical location, only with who you see and are connected too.

The problem i see in ED is that pvp means only player against player.
There is no way to lets say bring fuel to an trader stranded in an solar systhem without scoop or sun not scoopable.
Or go out and repair an ship with defunct thrusters.
The only thing we cqan do is shoot at each other.
That may be fun for a few weeks but be honest, how long can anyone stand dogfights only?

I really hope Frontier is working hard on putting some stuff out there or i see Elite soon reduced to an few hardcore grinders and nothing else, because wings or no wings, right now pvp means ONLY exchanging ammo.

Plus i am rather pessimistic regarding trading convoys, how do you suppose an escort flying wing prevents a few PK to swoop in with rocket launchers, obliterate all the traders lined up close to each other and swoop out again?

Right now its who has moar dakka, I mean i had in Elite 1 more tactic in fights ...

The game is balanced for vipers having it at each other, and that is it...
