Ships

Oh good. That seems to confirm that variants don't count towards the playable ships count. I reckon the Fer De Lance is a shoo in, and Sandro seemed to unofficially confirm it at some point, so that tentatively makes 13. I wonder what the ratio between new and old is with the remaining 12.

Time for a quick look at the ship-lists from the old games and see which classics still seem to be missing.

I like that the Dolphin and Orca classes are called yachts :)

Yes, that makes more sense than 'liners' to me.

Hmmm classic ships from Elite I'd like to see would be (in no particular order)

Gecko
Krait
Mamba
Moray Star Boat
Python
Wolf mkII

Hi John,

We have not yet announced all of the playable ships that will be in the final game, but there will be 25 available at launch. The ones we have shown or mentioned so far:

  • Adder
  • Viper
  • Sidewinder
  • Anaconda
  • Asp
  • Eagle
  • Panther Clipper
  • Imperial Cutter
  • Dolphin Class Yacht
  • Orca Class Yacht
  • Another unnamed Passenger-class ship
  • 'Freighter 3'
I don't think I have missed any out, so basically we have announced just under half of the ships that will be in the game at launch so far.

Hmmm, not deliberately forgetting the Cobra Mk 3 are you? though as it's a starter ship for several pledge levels, I'd assume that would make it confirmed;)

Perhaps Freighter 3 IS the Cobra mkIII

Judging by the design, I don't think so. The Cobra Mk III is the Cobra Mk III and should look the part. Gods how I've missed that ship. I can't wait to fly her again and later on even walk around her. Ahhh! It's been too long. :)

I didn't know that we'd be able to possibly get a Cutter, though? That's very cool, I can't wait to see how that'll work out.

So, is the F63 Condor not playable?

No it won't be playable, at least not at launch. The Condor is the Federation's counterpart to the Imperial Fighter, which means it is only a short-distance fighter. That means no jump drive and very limited storage capacity.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I was looking back through the newsletters for something else and came across it.
