It's not done. It's not done. It's not done. At no point have FD said that the game is 100% finished and that's it. These posts are what frustrate me so much. Asking for a refund because the game isn't what they expected.
I wonder what most of you would say if they simply didn't tick the version number to 1.0. Would there still be calls for refunds due to an "unfinished product"? So much anger because it's not what YOU want.
And when I play, I recognize the game as it is and also for its potential.
The game isn't done. It's still being developed on the grounds of a new frontier (no pun intended) which is kickstarter/early access. Games are now being released before they're 100% complete. We wouldn't have Elite Dangerous if it weren't for this new model of development in the first place, and I have no clue how those making this work of art refrain from absolutely blowing their tops at comments like this.
This fame is pretty freaking modern, man. The level of immersion is amazing and seamless behind the scenes thing like matchmaking that you don't even see. I was in Supercruise last might and interdicted someone and they slaughtered me. It wasn't until a couple hours ago I realized I has done the equivalent of clicked multiplayer on the main menu, hit the 1v1 playlist, and played a match...
Without a load screen or a menu click. GTA4 was praised for entering multiplayer via the cell phone but you still selected game modes and such. Elite is above that. Elite is seemless.
But hey you all want a modern game. Sorry about that. Quick, get a refund! The outrage!
Hmmmm, if you get so frustrated; take some tai-chi courses and avoid forums..that would be the best way probably.
I pointed out in multiple times (probably we never had a conversation on this forum), that ED was sold during KS campaign as "Elite with updated graphic, and new amazing features that will take advantage of modern technology". We know that there is an expansion or 2 coming in the future, that will add planetary landing and first person capabilities, to walk around the ship/planet/base. The game is not "finished"; but feature wise, the game was sold for 59 USD, and what you play now, is what you get.
Regarding the features that would take advantage of modern systems; we have a 400B system list; where most of the time nothing happens in there; we have mining that conceptually could've been implemented in Frontier; we have exploring that is another feature that call "barebone" would be really a stretch; and what else....piracy/bounty hunter, where you are actually roleplaying on your own, since all that you do is to shoot at ships. There is smuggling...which is limited to avoid police scan and sell on the black market. The only thing that was made a bit more in depth is trading, which is in the original Elite.
New features? Beside the aforementioned 400B systems, there is the interesting phase related to landing; there is supercruise, the star map is in 3d, multiplayer/MMO elements, which is done mostly to avoid to overload instances, so forget to see around a station a hundred human players. This is too little, for a game that wants to take the legacy of Elite, and move it in the 21st century. Not even the trailer done for the game is really showing what happens in the game (capital ship fight? blazing laser from tons of ships around you? play with your friends in the same instance, at the first attempt, with radio communication? I must've been playing the wrong game); so I believe that the concerns and never-ending stream of complains are more than justified. IF this was not called Elite, people would call it the next great thing after butter in a stick.
The refund joke goes to the ones that purchased the game, for the chance to play it offline, and then got angry when the bad news came in.
So, what are you taking about? Are you so happy about this game? Good, play it! But refrain from that attitude of "stop complaining, what are you talking about"; because the same freedom that allow you to express your (heavily based on mere feelings) opinions, is the same that allow other players to express their disappointment and frustration about something that they were dreaming about for 30 years. If you want to be heard, you may want to listen first. I hope you don't go blazing like that, in the face of people in real life
