Gun bays lit up? Huh?

I would assume it's to make it easier to spot visually when a ship has deployed its weapons. You get a notification on the HUD when a targeted ship deploys weapons, so it clearly isn't something that the game is trying to 'hide' from other ships.

But in combat you want your ship to be as hard to see as possible, so why light up your weapons for the enemy to see them? :)

On the other side of things - i would definitely pay for a Matt Black minimal-lights paintjob for my combat cobra.

space camoflague...

Probably a light that comes on to assist in maintenance when the hard points are open. Should definitely be off in flight/combat.

'Hard to see' doesn't really make much difference when your opponent has a scanner and targeting system that puts nice big highlights over your ship. :)

This only happens if they are on sensors and can be targeted.

I've fought many a CMDR who ran ultra cool, or had a silent running build that was not targetable at all beyond ~300m. Camouflage was very important for these ships.

This is a little harder to do since the changes in the heat system, but is not impossible, and people are generally much less prepared for it.

exactly this.

Specialist thrusters that burned in the non visible spectrum would be pretty sweet too.
