Personally I'd like to think that some of the propositions we make her in the forum are being considered as part of the improvements and upgrades.

There are so many worthy candidates that the original roadmap has taken more than one detour.

Don't kill the messenger but I'm afraid I have bad news : all the great ideas (and many more) are already in the DDA : Frontiers did know about them, they were OK to do it, they just did not do it. And probably not by choice, I'm sure they would have if they could.

Let's be clear, I don't believe you can find a bigger "fanboi" than myself anywhere. Anywhere.

However, the game and whoever is calling the shots are not the same thing. Similar to criticizing one's government doesn't mean that person is "unpatriotic", most often the reverse is true.

In my opinion, the forums went downhill when the "public" started playing. I know this sounds Elitist (pun intended ;o), but in the DDF and Alpha days, discussions were much, much more civil and fruitful.

I guess you either ignored the PvP discussions, or are anti-PvP, as those were even more toxic than various discussions here I've seen lately. Although I all but stopped frequenting here during beta, so could be worse these days.

the Kickstarter campaign did eventually pull though the goal and got into a good stride...but much of that was due to the constant pressure from fans explaining to Frontier that what they were doing was essentially broken and needed fixing.

What? I don't recall anything like that happening during KS campaign. The game wasn't even in pre-alpha at that time, so how could fans even know what was broken?

What the hell are you talking about? The original Elite doesn't even have missions, let alone factions, multiple player ships and online play.

Please play the original game before trolling. And if you really can't bear the old graphics or can't configure your windows 8 noob box, just read the wikipedia :

Credits can be accumulated through a number of means. These include piracy, trade, military missions, bounty hunting and asteroid mining.

Rings a bell ?

If not, read all about it here :

Shhh, those kids ....

Nobody had the stones to stand up to George Lucas when he was making Phantom Menace.

None of the people he had surrounded himself with during production ever spun around in their comfy leather office chair to say, 'George, this script is nonsense and makes absolutely no sense'. Because, after all, it was George Lucas.

This didn't stop Phantom Menace from making several hundredy-thousandy gazillions of dollahs, but oh my god what an utter crock of tripe it is.

Sorry, wrong forum.

I think I've spotted a slight flaw in your analogy - Elite Dangerous is actually good.

No doubt about it. The decision to NOT postpone release was strictly a financial one. That doesn't mean it was a BAD decision, it probably saved the game. However when I asked David directly his response was "We always planned to release the game at this time." or something similar (It's been a while not going to dig for the thread).

We haven't heard a word from David since then, not one peep on their own forum. Maybe he's still on holiday in Spain or something?

It's an extreme and well known example - I can only speak from my own experience but I have never worked for or with a company that doesn't have something of this happeningg - I've detected a whiff of it over the last couple of months in the form of a change of direction in the production of ED from a hardcore genuine Elite game toward a more casual easy thing. I hope to be proven completely and utterly wrong.

Shield Cells are the Jar Jar Binks of Elite.

The game was rushed to cash in on Christmas sales and a few weeks later, we're already talking about paid content. Sure they have to pay their bills but they just released a game, don't they
have enough money to properly finish the game before asking for more money? I fear they will have to come up with regular DLCs to stay in business, finishing the vanilla version might not be their first priority
especially since most reviews were more focused on future potential rather than its current state and with such a good rating why even bother...

So true, they actually made out like bandits selling everyone $60 worth of a $10 game. Their own marketing for the game was false and misleading. I think I'll come back in 2.0 unless I have to pay again to play the updated content... This game was a bust so far and it's going to take a generous effort for FD to rebound from it.

+1 They have almost no communication with the player base compared to every other game i have played. Most games will at the very least had a road map with estimated times. Especially for things that were supposed to already be released. Not to mention weekly or bi weekly QnAs with the player base. I am not complaining about speed they can take as long as they want its the lack of communication that i find irritating. All that said i can deal with the way it is now im just not accustom to it. Maybe I've been spoiled but i think having someone dedicated to doing QnAs at least 2 times a month would make a large amount of the player base extremely happy. It would also give us more to talk about in the forums.

There is a road map now for the next 2 months.

Does that mean FD doesn't know and might know in a few weeks? For example, in regards to new ships, surely FD knows how far along the ships are to completion? If so, why all the secret squirrel cloak and dagger "answers"? I can see the drip feed if ships were supposed to be released one at a time after launch but, that's not the case, they were supposed to be released AT launch. So why all the secrecy?

That's just one example, a LOT of recent "answers" have been "more in the coming weeks" since launch and frankly, I think FD doesn't have the answers or a clear roadmap ATM, hence the "more in coming weeks" non-answers of late. Either that or this is somehow a rework of the original "plan" to piecemeal things that were supposed to be ready at launch.

From my perspective it would seem there was a mad scramble to get the game "released" and then try to pick up the pieces and move forward after the new year, which it would appear to me they are still trying to get a grip on. Normally this wouldn't bother me, except, it seems like FD is trying to play it as if this was the "plan" all along. Obviously the "plan" changed at some point and was released barebones but, this was never part of the original pitch. Sure continued development was in the cards but, not what was supposed to be ready at launch. It's a bit like ordering a 4 piece meal and getting 2, then the chef tells you your other items are a secret and he'll tell you more in the coming hours. It smacks of "we didn't make the other 2 items so we gave you the other 2 to keep you at the table, we'll let you know when they're coming as soon as we figure out how to make them".

TLDR: FD please stop blowing smoke up our butts by acting like the barebones release was "planned". Let us know where the original things, supposed to be ready at launch, are at (ships for example) and keep what was supposed to be expansion packs secret squirrel but, we shouldn't be in the dark about things that were supposed to be part of the finished launch. If you don't know, say you don't know. If you don't have a plan sorted out yet say so but, pretending like everything is as planned and rosey only fools you, not us.

Given that you don't work for FD, you, nor I, will ever know what they are truly working on, and to what extent. I don't have a problem with them keeping future features quiet. Because if they tell us, then we have a right to expect them to deliver. I'm more concerned with the issues in the game now, that need to be fixed. I'm confident that over time, expansions and features will come.

So chill....

They stated 30 ships available at launch, pretty clearly sir.
They never said that all, they announce that they would bump up the number of ships to eventually be added to the game from 25 to 30 and the additional 15 ships would be added at a latter date. An that Alpha/Beta testers would get one of the extra 5 ships for free.

I'm personally guessing there will be something unique about those five vessels and it probably has some to do with the storyline that is slowly evolving.

The newsletter just show us a minimal progress for the next 2 months. In the moment, the game lacks content.

No need to chill (thank you) I don't have a problem with future features either. Clearly my post was about the features that were supposed to already have and not the undocumented "secret" stuff. If you had taken the time to read and comprehend it that is. Which, by the way would address a lot of the "current issues".
