Python/Class 6 thruster issue? (Devs please have a look)

I know EXACTLY how big the impact will be, -17%, he told us. That's a top speed of ~230 with A thrusters, on top of the shield nerf, it will be a sitting duck in combat. I'm sorry but that is a horrible decision.

Have you flown the Python after these change have been made yet? No? I thought so. Until then nothing of what you are doing here is appropriate.
Numbers and actually feeling the changes are two separate worlds.

So it won't fly like a Viper any more despite having much heavier weapons and carrying more cargo than a T7? Ah, I get it, the seriously OP ship won't be seriously OP any more. Better buff tissues.

...its your own damn fault as a company that you released the game with no higher end choices for combat because every ship post asp is a trade vessel.

I think some players are not aware of the kind of spread going on in what kind of time people are sinking in this game.

I've been around since beta. Elite is by far my favourite game ATM, to the point where I hardly play anything else, and play Elite much more than would be good for me, my job, and my family.

And I certainly did a double-take when reading a complaint about "everything beyond the ASP".

Because for humble little me, an ASP is still far out of reach. Probably because I refuse to "grind" Elite, and rather enjoy playing it. On the upside, I have no problems at all with the pace at which FD is moving onward with this...

17% is small. Anything less and the change wouldn't even be noticeable. I'd be surprised if it was noticeable even now. It might be a sitting duck if you fit it with the smallest and crappiest thruster module you can get away with but it would have been that way before as well.

Of course I'm balancing ships based on what I have access too right now. It makes no sense to set up a ship the moment before release based on what's only in the public build when I know in advance or already have access to all the other ships that will also be released soon. What a ridiculous idea. I'd have to constantly adjust each ship in the whole game to take into account a new ship each and every time if I hadn't tried to look at the big picture first. It might mean a ship gets released that doesn't seem to fit the current trend, or relies on game play that hasn't made it in yet so it's a bit weaker but if I tried to counter those things I'd only have to take them away later and that doesn't go down well ;)

I have no issues with reducing manoeuvrability by 17%, however, would not reducing the top speed mean that the base values are going to be reduced from 250[280] to 207.5[232.4]. And if I have 280[370] now, it is going to become 232.4[307.1]. I'd say that this is going to be pretty noticeable.

This is gonna come out harsh because I've still got the bag on my head, but don't make assumptions based on anybody elses playstyle I haven't grinded a moment that I've played the game, I've engaged in pretty much every activity that's available and I greatly enjoy it, If I had to restart i'd be back at an asp in a day and i'd enjoy that too. That doesn't mean I grinded, and just because you chose to play your own way and ignore the credit stat doesn't mean that everyone else will.

I'm not sure how I feel if the top speed gets hit hard. Honestly, though, IMO the problems right now are dumbfire missiles and shield cells, the latter of which is already getting a look I understand.

I'm sorry but going from a 280 top speed to 230 is HUGE and extremely noticeable. I could understand the turn rate nerf and the shield nerf, but combine them with the speed nerf and it will be a sitting duck in PvP combat. You're nerfing WAY too much at one time, why not roll out only a couple of these changes and if it's still too powerful nerf again? I've seen this mistake made time and time again in other games. The game's not going anywhere so you have plenty of time to roll out more nerfs if needed, plus the general attitude from your consumers about this nerf is negative.

You're just being incredulous, stop it. I can go out right now in my Python and set my speed to 230 and see EXACTLY how it will feel.

Stat dump for those that care :p Just remember my percentages before were rough estimates. You might find solace or despair below:

Base Shield Health 390 - 260

0 Pips to engines
Maximum Speed 160 - 140
Max Boosted Speed 280 - 220

Max Forward Acceleration 32 - 30
Max Retro Acceleration 19 - 18
Max Transverse Acceleration 19 - 16

MaxPitchRate 30 - 22
MaxRollRate 100 - 90

4 Pips to engines
Maximum Speed 250 - 200
Max Boosted Speed 330 - 280
Max Pitch Rate 38 - 27

Just for grins, I will try to do these same tests in a Viper and Cobra (with something like a typical combat loadout) just to see if the Python really is as close. I also have a kitted out Viper that I fly, and it feels FAR more nimble than my python.

It may not be 'balanced', but man, the Python sure is fun to fly in it's current state (and I pretty much only play in solo mode).

It's official, Python is just another trading ship.

numbers! drool :)

one question tho, is the graph from 0-4 pips linear?

Can you adjust turn rate, too? Stop being so butthurt because you monster ship got a necessary adjustment.

This is the flight model if the optimal mass of the thrusters is exactly equal to the mass of the ship as a whole btw. Fit some better drives in their and it'll be faster.

The problem with that statement is that applies to every single ship, the python isn't unique by being able to fit class A thrusters they all do, every single ship performs better than its statistics including the viper that is apparently the 100k measuring stick for balance.

Nooooooooo.... Right, I'm gonna sit by my Python, every night when I leave it in it's hanger. Anybody comes near it and I'll rip their ears off!
