How is this in any way related to offline? Sure lack off offline mode sucks but as it's been said hundreds of times before there is a solo mode or private groups for people who want to avoid pvp whilst interacting with other like minded players. Playing in open and then combat logging and trying to justify it because there's no offline mode is insane.

Oh, thats very simple. There still are people that have VERY unstable internet connections. As in: losing their connections regularely several times a day. A logoff timer would basically force them to stop playing cause they simply cant take the risk of being a sitting duck in space for several minutes. With offline mode that issue wouldnt exist. So, if you wanna go ahead and screw the people who already lost offline mode a second time: yeah, that will make FD look REALLY good in their books.

If this is the case then the alt+f4 exploit will always be in the game and they will pretty much kill pvp for most serious players.
I doubt it will kill it for any serious players. It's not like an iWin cheat, that gives the logger any advantage. It's just an encounter that never happened. Serious players will seek out other serious players who are likewise interested in the same interaction, and they will get it.

Serious <fill in your own term> who are looking for unwilling victims will likely be frustrated, but let's be honest, decent people find that amusing.

:) i filled in my own term quite good, and thats why your post made me smile widely. Have some rep for stating the truth.

Voted no. I got booted to main menu at least once a day due to connection issues (think of us 3rd worlder with crap internet), if I got screwed due to a long timer where I can permanently lose my ship to random NPC pirate when I got disconnected because some whiny PvPer can't get their daily kill fix I'd simply quit.

If your target logged, you WON! You don't get to dance around his grave, but you won.

That's why I think players with bounties that drop out should have to cough up the bounty for the player they ran from. Probably not bother with bountyless players and let them go since the in this case the "victor" wouldn't have gotten anything for killing a clean player anyway.

We only win if u lose. As in lose your ship. Killing someone in piracy is a deterrent to trying to escape. When traders realise they don't even have to escape the deterrent fails. So there is no piracy.

Probably repeating a lot of what has already been said in response, but here goes.

1) Combat loggers are poor sportsmen. If they don't want PvP then there are plenty of options for evading it. Fly remote systems, play solo, play Mobius.

2) This thread is redundant since there is a combat timer. So it would have been better to ask for the timer to be extended.

3) This thread is redundant since FD have already stated they are aware of the issue and are considering what to do about it, however, they also say its not as simple to fix as people think and whatever they do about it will need to be carefully considered.

4) If people combat logging annoy you, put them on your blacklist. This way in-game you should never see them again. This will make it to all intents and purposes for you like they are playing in solo. Basically you are doing for them what they should have done themselves, which is a bit crappy, but at least they won't annoy you in future.

I think it's ridiculous combat logging exists.

Way to dilute the PVP or meaningfull gameplay even further.

Why does anyone who would "Combat Log" when pirated bother playing in open, solo is the place surly. Or is there some sort of advantage that i am missing?

What should happen is that if you logout the the game should take control of your ship and treat it as an NPC, If you try to log back on you should have to wait/watch whilst the combat unfolds before you can get control of your ship back again.
Except that can't happen. One more time, the is p2p networking. You and the other players are not all connected via a central serve ala WoW, Dayz, Everquest, Eve, etc. The FD server is a matchmaking server that guides the peers to connect with each other. If the ai took over the ship, it would be doing so solely on your computer, and talk about the potential for grief. All you'd need to do is find an unarmed ship, break the p2p, but keep the connection to the matchmaking server (child's play), and you'd continue to exist on his computer under ai control, and he'd continue to exist on your computer under ai control. Only one of you has weapons, how do you think that would work out?

Yes its needed, and im shocked to see that there are almost the same amount of people who want to be able to skip every fight. Sad really. :(

Too much talk about loosing connection, but that rarely happens, and if FD makes AI take over its all good.

Well, they could do that but that wouldn't catch the ones that just reboot their modem/router or pull the plug.

Actually, yes it would if the logout timer was server side.

There currently is a timer, but you have to be in actual combat. I don't believe being interdicted counts as combat so you can just disconnect the moment you get interdicted, but haven't yet been shot upon. This seems fairly wrong since interdiction is a clear sign of agression.

Last night, was out by Lave, and saw a Type 6 (Human) get interdicted by another human in a Viper, I dropped in on the party to help the Type 6 and to my surprise there was also a human there in an eagle, also attacking the Type 6, I started on the Viper, and he was down to 60% on the Hull, and "poof" he was gone, turned to the eagle and opened fire and the same thing....

yes this needs to be fixed!!!

So people think it's not an issue?

REALLY?

I'm seriously considering giving up playing now

This happened earlier today:

I got interdicted by a cobra CMDR, turned my viper around and gave him a good fight

My shields went down, but my armour playing was helping as he only had 4 beam weapons

I take off his shields, get on his tail and he can't shake me

He is down to 30% hull and he is gone, disappeared in front of my eyes

i have 70% hull left and head to the station nearby, just get there and Interdicted again, same guy on full hull (sometimes logging out restores you to before the fight)

This time he puts me down, I'm dead

So I'm paying the repair bill for a cheater that attacked me, and he gets away Scott free
?

I also saw him a bit later on shooting people outside a station as they left (mostly killing sidewinders which were easy targets for his weapons) he then logged off the moment the station fired at him (he didn't die, I was right on top of him ready to fire when a station laser hit him and a second later he vanished)

Complete joke

For all of those who say nothing should he done or get over it, I have an idea, I'm currently looking to build up enough for an anaconda, so if you really think nothing should be done, let's get together online, I'll sit outside your common station and shoot you everytime you leave, and the moment the station fires at me I kill the game with task manager (logging off near a station logs you back in 10km away)

I'll repeat this until you vote yes

Because I'm telling you now, one day things will be like that everywhere you go in game if word gets out cheaters arnt being punished

The Serious players, or at least the ones who like to PvP, won't. Aren't they the players that you want to fight? Or are you only interested in the weak and scared? I just can't see getting upset about this stuff.
.
I have conceded over and over again, Combat Loggers are cowards. I just supposed that should be the end of it. Call it a win and move on. You didn't get to pop a ship, but you vanquished your target. Mission accomplished.

Maybe you should have logged on him. That guy is a coward and a griefer, I get it. It's a tough world. I have sympathy, but the angst is too much. It's a video game, where you manipulate pixels. Put it in perspective. The Dev's will do something, but you won;t be happy, it won;t go far enough so why get all up in arms?

the second he logs on again he will log on at the very same spot with the station starting to fire again. so either he is stupid, or you simply a liar.

Do you want a video?

Just try it

Dock at a station, leave the station, boost and wait 5 seconds after leaving the gateway

Log off, change game mods from open to solo, log in

10km away from station

I do it all the time in my type 6 as it's much faster than waiting for mass lock to clear for a jump in a slow heavy freighter

Calling someone a liar without proof is really dumb

Try it and admit your wrong, or I'll post a video and prove it
