Problem with "failed to load file"

Hi everyone,

update 1.06 is incoming at 11am GMT. Everyone will be taken off the servers at this time while the update is applied. We should be live again within 30 minutes, so 11.30am GMT. Here's the client and server change log:

Client Changes

- Add more telemetry to continue investigation on why some resourses don't load on some machines

Before this "more telemetry" I stumbled on "failed to load file for multiple times" only once in 3 days. Now I got this 4 times for just 1 hour. I can't even enter the game now.
Does anyone experience the same?

"- Added a safety net so that permits awarded on faction ranks (Imperial and Federal) will be forcibly added at the rank above if the player hasn't been able to access the mission for whatever reason"

This line made my day :D Thank you very much, and furthermore I can now close my weeks old ticket to support :)

Furthermore I've read correctly a system allegiance will now swing/change to the party/allegiance with the highest percentage ?

Not quite - a system is owned by whatever minor faction owns the controlling starport.

I have a mission in a neighbouring Anarchy star-system that requires me to kill two traders. I have killed everything that walked or crawled at one time in that system, for about an hour, and I cannot get a kill count or an 'Objective Complete' message. What qualifies an NPC to be a Trader? Do I need to do or carry something in order to trigger their appearance?

There's some optimisations for planets with atmospheres in 1.1 which will help.

Michael

Stuttering near planet with NO atmosphere does occur just as bad...

Do you get a stutter from the rotating station displayed in the start menu, the rotating ship model (as the game is loading) as well as the in-game FSD jumps? I have all of the above, even with 12 Gig of Ram, 2 Gig of DDR5 video-card memory and an i7 processor :(

As you you're reading this thread for feedback on 1.06 can you confirm if my complaint about the docking computer stopping because "your under attack" if a Hostile ship appears on your scanner is working as intended? If I'm going through the letterbox and a ship appears on my scanner inside or outside a space station and the docking computer stops working and the space station keeps revolving and I'm not then really I think the docking computer's threat assessment needs a tweek. If I'm being fired on fair enough but otherwise let it complete it's job.

Taking a closer look there appears to be a few things going on. The first is a one off frame drop as you approach a planet for the first time, this is the shader building. For the latest nVidia driver this should now be cached, but is a driver rather than a game thing. When your approaching after that initial point is the texture generation and that is primary controlled by the detail settings - they're quite beefy so dropping the detail settings may well help you. There does appear to be a third issue that I don't quite understand and we'll investigate further.

I don't know I'm afraid.

So should I just assume that Mercenary Missions working inconsistently or not at all and Dumbfire Missile Racks firing backward won't even be looked at until a "Major Patch"?

Michael - talking of planets, can you tell us if the current draw distance for planets is working as intended?

There is a sharp change in planets upon approach and it causes them to just "pop" into view. In the above image notice the difference at 0.89ls and 0.88ls.

It takes time for the textures to generate as they're unique for each planet.

You've not made a particularly compelling case Granite. There are barely any differences between your two comparison images. Why not show Michael that all planets are glowing blobs (whether they have any starlight falling on them or not), until they are fairly close? The draw distance slider in the graphics menu only seems to effect ship/station models. I'd like to a slider for draw distance on planets, but hey, there are bigger fish to fry right now.
